Velocity Systems Jungle Rig Load Bearing Belt System "Modern ALICE" Gear Overview and Setup

  • My overview on the popular Velocity Systems Jungle Belt 5.56 setup in Multicam. This has been asked for a bit, and with the advent of the "recce" trend I can see why. Not an inexpensive setup by any means, it is the best in class at modernizing the historical load bearing belt setups like ALICE and PLCE, with a very analogous feel. The pouches and webbing itself all have the "boxy" design like ALICE pouches. As always, feel free to ask questions, comment, share, etc.

    Great vid just subd. I’m a Cold War vet, love belt suspenders kit. That said, I had to realistically look at my situation near the mountains in Virginia and what my role will be in the future. I decided on 3 lines of gear for my suburban and rural AO. Clothing earth tones, hunter or mil camo tops. Since open pistol carry is legal I will fight off of a light belt kit. Items Kydex holster, side by side double 556 and 9 mm kangaroo pouches, pepper spray pouch, tourniquet pouch, saw pouch for larger Ifak and bottle of Gatorade and powder, second saw pouch holds either gortex jacket or thin fleece shirt, Alice tripplenmag pouch to plus up ammo or for radio, etc, medium size Ifak pouch for needed items such as eye and extra ear protection, batteries, couple of snacks etc, and small dump pouch. Still have room if I want to attach my canteen, cup, and natik hex or alcohol stove. I prefer to carry a small day pack , third line gear, for water, ammo, and anyother mission gear. Second line gear is a diy small chest rig-2 mags- that can accept a front dynema ceramic plate. Each line holds 2 556 mags and with one in the gun. So I always have 3 mags ready to rock whether for the Glock or rifle or both. So depending on what I’m doing I can plus up or down gear and ammo. I run a plain Condor gun belt, molle pouches are just looped over it and Alice pouches are zip tied. I train in it and it works. Condor belt quickly adjusts for removing or adding clothes, of for comfort. It’s easy to sew up H style suspenders. Need heavy duty thread and 18 gauge needle for sewing machine. Cut 2 straps of webbing to desired length, and 1 horizontal piece 11 inches. Pin horizontal piece about 6 inches beyond half way point on vertical straps. Then drape over you and make any adjustments. Sew together, stitching a smaller and smaller square. Reverse stitch a little to lock in thread. At the end of the vertical webbing fold over 3-4 inches to create a small loop, sew across but not over the preceding stitches several times, reverse stitch to lock thread,. Run paracord through the loop and tie to the keepers that come with the Condor gun belt. You can buy camo, green, tan webbing, or spray paint outer surface of black webbing once sewn.

    Appreciate the overview and showing what goes in each pouch to give me an idea of capacity limitations of each. Definitely thinking of rocking something similar to increase sustainability if separated from my main pack. Did have one question, are there any bags/rucks you would recommend using in conjunction with this system? Seeing it makes me feel like my old large ALICE pack sitting in storage may be the best option, but are there any other bags you'd personally recommend that would clear the pouches so you don't have that offset fit and it remains as comfortable as carrying equipment can be?

      Most of this is theory. If rocking belt kit, go low. Any backpack used should ride high, so as to not push the belt rig down. LOL, all of these systems are General Staff war gaming territory. I E: everything works, and the enemy, General Murphy, has been assassinated. Swear to God, the real danger is the individual tactical genius industry. I run an LC2 belt, Condor H harness, Spec Ops butt pack, and G.I. MOLLE pouches as a 24/72 hour kit. All that Gucci kit will single you out for special attention. Water, ammo, and a bunch of coffee and protein bars says nothing special, how's the wife? TBH, I'm not active, but I read a lot. And retain a lot. And know the rule of 3s. 3 hours without shelter, 3 days without water, 3 weeks without food.

    Traveling on your LPC Leather Personel Carriers, the Belt and Harness is superior. Chest Rigs and Front mounted pouches on a Flak/ Plate Carrier are for Vehicle Mounted operations and/or when wearing a giant ruck/ pack that wouldn’t work with the web gear belt and harness. Another reason for webgear/ belt and harness is Line Gear. Adding a schmedium ruck to the webgear means you keep your essential gear WHEN your ruck goes away. Lots of guys going into harms way (deliberate attack, etc.) left their butt packs empty, and lots of guys left their rucks essentially empty as possible. SOP Dependent. Additionally; resupply rucks being delivered by a supply and logistics chain to troops is a common contingency. Let the PACE principle decide for you. 🍻Cheers. 🍺

      i find Jayjays being very (too) UK forces specific.
      For example, canteen pouches dimensions are weird and generally too small as they are made for jetboils and PLCE canteens.
      Put a Nalgene with a cup in there and the pouch will close in a weird way.
      Put a US canteen with a cup, the pouch will completely changes its form.
      "Admin pouch" on their beltkits are again very specific to what an officer or a group leader will need to have during an exercise (litteraly freakin binder workbook and 2 pounds of admin shit, not our common landnav kit) but isn't really pratical for what you'd think putting in there like smokes or whatever.
      I absolutely love hard-sewn gear and wish it was more common, but JayJays doesn't fit the average larper needs.

      @calmolly1 2 роки тому +1

      @@casultras1989 you’re correct about canteens. I prefer the 58 pattern canteen. It’s shorter, has a wider mouth and holds a full litre. Besides I have them. I run a British Tactical 3 row hippo belt with a mix of pouches. The GP / Canteen pouches come in three sizes. And yes the Admin pouch is aimed at the issues TAM’s. But you can remove the admin features and rock a 200 round nutsack. Or two 1L Platatac canteens. The set I use has a thin admin with multitool, oil bottle, flash light and small gp pouch for camo cream etc.

      U.S. LC2 belt and Condor H harness. For mounting, 550 loops work fine. TBH, I retroed because I have a Spec Ops butt pack and it just works best with ALICE clips. The Condor straps are great with no clips, and 550 loops are just there, not in the way at all. So if dropping the pack for rucking, etc, just run through the loops and readjust. Butt pack then goes up top or as a shoulder bag. Currently trying out a Helicon Matilda.

    The velocity jungle setup looks nice. I came up with some of the similar features before seeing it to copy british web kit. I found helikon tex makes e&e pouches that can simulate the mid sized pouches on this rig and they're a bit more affordable and available.. I use a blue force gear medkit on center rear. I think the British mindset is far better for citizen rifleman than an ultra high speed usgi setup where you have such massive logistic support such that your kit is so specialized. You can use a slick plate carrier, chest rig and assault pack so make a mix and match configuration to suit your needs.

      @@RavenRedwood To some degree, yes. Again, this isn't for high speed special forces. It's for citizens that need to be able to mix and match capabilities without having an entirely different integrated setup for each. The chest rig just needs 1.5" flat straps. The plate carrier is about the same. Only the backpack on top would have padding and add thickness. I have run setups like that and there are plenty of soldiers that run such things.

Also since you live in FL your probably the best person to ask, when is a rain jacket better and when is a poncho better? The tarp is because Ive struggled to find a quality poncho in Multicam. So the tarp is a stand in for now. I think a rain jacket and tarp combo is better than a poncho and tarp combo, rain jacket when done right is less in the way. The flashbang isn't a permanent addition in there, it has a place but usually I have different throwables in there, mainly smoke. They have a place as a distraction device or early warning with some tape and wire.

      The jungle triple M4 pouches will fit two 25rd PMAG-LRs like it was meant for them. You can also fit standard 20rd NATO mags (FAL/G3/M14) in them fine but they will be loose and rattle and you will either want to put something under them to bump them up or fix them with pull tabs. It will also fit two BAR magazines if you’re that flavor of weirdo. 🤙🏻

    • @ShibbyMcCleud

      The d rings or strap attachment being on the pouches is pretty much standard for all modular belt type lbe. ALICE is worn that way as well as british PLCE, it's plenty durable. If not worn that way the pouches would bounce and generally be a nightmare during any fast movement.

      @ShibbyMcCleud this is the only system I've seen that way and I've been looking at stuff from all major manufacturers.... everything from Eagle industries & HSGI to the low tier condor and everything in between, even the old alice stuff, the suspenders connect to the belt not the pouches. I really think ur misunderstanding what exactly I'm saying, literally NO other GP or SAW pouches have d rings that connect suspenders... not Y harness nor 1951 harness, none of them. EVERYTHING I've seen from WWII & Nam to present, British or American (or any other) have the pouches molle to the belt... then the suspenders attach to the belt (not the pouches)

    You carry too much Crap though in your LBV, most of that should be in your Patrol pack, I had 6+1 mags(28 rds loaded) iFAK, compass M9 lensetic, 2 Canteens(NBC), pace counter, Red Micro light, admin Pouch with Map, protractor alcohol pens Garmin Etrex and AN/PVS-14, camo stick, and 2 packs of smokes and a can of Dip, 3 IR chemights.
    1 canteen has cup and stove and 2 heat tabs the other has Clortabs(iodine tabs) .
    Buttpack( old school type) has Ponch and woobie rolled and sinched under the pack, inside I had a set of waterproof bags 1 with clean shirt x1, 2x clean dry socks. The other has calories, usually alot of beef jerky, rat fucked MRE and hygiene items like baby wipes. Outside of waterproof pouches I had 50' of 550 cordage, tiny sew kit, a few feet of 100 mile tape and more chemists and second pair of mechanic gloves.
    Leatherman is dummy corded in my left trouser pocket and a trench Hawk(tomahawk) left of Butpack to use as trenching tool and hooch building.
    My uniforms for the field are impregnated with permitherin so not much needed for bugs. And washing said uniforms was always in cold water and hunting soaps, this is to minimize IR Glow because we always had to run from the OH-58 Kiowa warrior helos. A Camelbak is often in the kit worn separately over suspenders OR in the Patrol pack.

    From what I can gather, the Velsys set up is a flawed execution of a great idea. It uses a better material and design philosophy than its predecessor, the ALICE, but has a few design flaws that the brits fixed decades ago with the PLCE.
    It's overall a good design, and can be had as a kit with everything you need, it's just not as good as it ought to be for the $550-$600 price tag. Unless you foresee marching through a river and then hiking another few miles soaking wet, where the Velsys' hydrophobic material will help, I'd go with Jay-Jay's PLCE webbing and have a better rig while saving ~$200.

    Poncho is lot more versatile then a tarp.. and rations will provide a lot more cals.. I mean no one wants rations to eat but even a small cookie size mixed in with field stripped meals adds a ton of calories.. you’re talking 72h vs 24h for little added.. little peanut butter makes them almost edible lol
    But being honest here the purpose of a kit like this is sustainment long term with some fighting load.. you have almost zero sustainment at all..

  • @tofan2622
    @tofan2622 2 роки тому +2

    "Recce" has been around longer than you have been alive. It was a term coined literally in the 1950s and 1960s, come on bro. The throwables pouch would never be something anybody would ever use in combat whether rural, city or what not, because you have to jumble around to find the one you want. Also do you, but 270 rounds is more than plenty for a loadout like this, I would recommend you adding 2 stripper clips with feed lips somewhere in the pack.
