I’m 24 yrs old and my mother’s sole caregiver I recently transitioned her to a memory care facility while also going from “caregiver” back to “son” my mom has dementia and I saw above someone said there is a stage of mourning the person we use to know and I’m struggling in the stage turned to drinking more than I did in college and I don’t like it but I know I can’t run from reality so ive been looking into what I can learn more with the skills I already have dealing with her the last 2 years and I’m really grateful for this page and your knowledge. And I know someone else is dealing with this and I’m here to tell you we going to get through it together ❤️

Hi Dr Snow. I’m doing onboard training for my 3rd caregiver job, and your teaching has me hysterical. Definitely making my training not feel like training.
I truly hope when we’re all older, we have a Teepa snow being our caregiver ❤️❤️❤️
"Learn to breathe, take a moment and learn" SUCH important words.
Ty for the reminder. 💛
You are so welcome, @Mary-vt7px!
I started a local dementia support group many years ago now, we have grown as a community. Now the local health nurses and local geriatric psychiatrists are recommending my group to families dealing with dementia. It has been an incredible journey. I met you on Vancouver island in 2018 and it was life changing. I had already followed your techniques for years and found them incredibly helpful, I refer to them every group meeting. Continue spreading your knowledge, I know I will ❤ Thank you for everything. And most importantly, thank you for keeping it real and not sugar coating it. People need help and to be able to be vulnerable. Your work is incredibly inspiring and admirable. ❤❤
Wow, @Sunshinelovestolove, we're so happy to hear how you are helping your local community! That's exactly what Teepa and the team is wanting to see happen. We appreciate the fact that you are continuing to find us life changing. Thanks so much!
Hi Sarah, how's your day going with you?
Teepa, I think intuition and unconditional love is what I have used as an approach and it's worked. My journey was hardest when I mourned for the person my mom was. I lost so much time mourning and if there's one thing I can say, I love my mom just the way she is and she is still in there. She's in the late stages now and bed ridden but we travel the world together because I know she wanted to travel so we do guided meditations and she loves it. She even makes noises and other responses that really let me know she is there and understands! I use all the senses in our travels and even try to be funny about some of the "other travelers". I guess my point is, there's a lot we don't know about dementia and I am unlocking my mom this way. She eats better, she sleeps less and is overall less depressed. I really believe most dementia patients are severely depressed and lost in their depression. My mom ebbs and flows with depression but has always been like that, but she doesn't and hasn't become withdrawn ever since I started traveling with her.
Hi, @May Bass. Thanks so much for sharing your experience and finding ways to travel with your mom. I'm sure that she gets as much enjoyment as you. It sound like you have found a good place to be in relationship with her.
Hi May, how's your day going with you?
this made me cry but also was reassuring. this is the first of her videos I've watched but you can tell she's really been there.
Hi, @chuchhuckle, sorry that this video made you cry, but we are glad that you got something from it. Since you said it was the first video you watched, you might also be interested in our whole UA-cam Channel (ua-cam.com/users/teepasnowvideosfeatured) or you might want to check out some of the resources we have available on our website (teepasnow.com/resources/for-families-and-friends/)
This is the first of your videos I’ve watched and everything resonates with my situation here with us. I quickly understood that adaptability and flexibility would be the key to navigating this journey while staying intact, early on. I’m in it for the long haul. “ In sickness and in health”.
Hey, @John van Grup, welcome to our videos! So glad that you found the connection to our idea of adaptability and flexibility as part of this journey. We hope that if you ever want to connect and talk more about things, please reach out to us at consult@teepasnow.com or call 1-877-877-1671
Just found out about Teepa from my brother in law who lives in Raleigh NC, my wife( she just turned 82 on the 1st) has Dementia, I need to find a support group( I'm a bit younger, 70 on October 12) I live in LB CA. She was an RN for over 45 years, ER, Burn center, Pediatrics, Aids care., Home health, you name the dept she worked, she did it all, she has 3 grown daughters, all great and strong women, with their own adult children. We've been together a little over 20 years( married for 15, this Dec 20). It's pretty hard sometimes, she has a strong temperament anyway. But, all her family knows pretty much, I keep in touch with all of them, at least on a weekly basis. Hanging in there.
Hey @ronaldzent6321, so glad that you found us through your brother-in-law! While I'm not familiar with any groups in your area, we do have some certified community people near you. Please take a look at this site (shop.teepasnow.com/pac-certified-community/all-certified-members/?type=all&zip=90712&miles=25) which shows people near you. As you scroll, you can reach out to folks there via email and maybe get connected. Also you can connect with us to maybe join one of our Care Partner Support Series - online courses (teepasnow.com/services/consulting/care-partner-support-series/) so that you can talk and learn with others. Lastly, connect with one of our consultants to talk at consult@teepasnow.com. We are here for you, even if we aren't actually near you.
Blessings to you and your family. You sound like a thoughtful person. Good luck with everything.
Thank you very much, you have been a great help.
Elisabeth Rio, thank you and you are very much welcome!
You’re an amazing woman! I’ve already learned so much
Thank You

It takes a human being to care for people with dementia. When I say this I mean person orientated not task orientated. Too many carers in a care setting think it's just a job to be done... no it's the person that matters.
Hey Mark, it's Dan from Teepa's team. I absolutely love the words you used there. It's the person that matters. No matter what, they are a person that needs support, not a task to be checked off. If you'd like to see Teepa with more person-first tips, she has recently gone viral on TikTok. You can also visit her website, teepasnow.com or reach out to us at info@teepasnow.com. Thanks!
Very Great advice and information
I was in the field before much was understood. I really loved what I did. It did not stress me, it was just something I did. I also had dementia in my family.
Hi Beverly, how's your day going with you?

Hi Melanie, how's your day going with you?
You are such a treasure. I’m a “vintage” (old) RN and am dealing with my mother who has dementia. I learn so much from you that I didn’t know I didn’t know. Thank you from the bottom of my heart! ❤️
You are so welcome, @indianne9781!
She is a revelation. So helpful! Thank you for your wisdom, common sense and humor.
Hi Annie, how's your day going with you?
Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for listening, @tyra7458!
Adult daughter and sole caregiver of my 87 y/o Mother with early stage dementia. The stress had now affected my heart. ALZ association gives me outdated resources. I pray I stay alive long enough to care for my mom. It's so difficult. 💔
Hi, @Katherine King, please reach out to us and get connected (consult@teepasnow.com or 1-877-877-1671). We do not want you to be stressed any more than you are at this point. We know that it's so difficult, but we are here for you. You may also want to check out www.teepasnow.com for some other resources.
My husband was diagnosed with AD last week. We had suspected something was going on. Thought he would be diagnosed with Dementia,. Not Dementia with Alzheimer's. My head has been spinning but I know to take each day as it comes. I'm SO excited I came across your videos. Plan to be a caregiver, until I can't. Reading and watching everything I can to help navigate down this road.
Hi @joanieAbbot-hg5nv, we are so glad you are here. We have lots of free content on youtube and ticktock as well as offer a free 30 minute consultation at teepasnow.com/services/consulting/phone-consultations/. Thank you for sharing. We do come to California many times throughout the year. Please visit teepasnow.com for more info and to find out when Teepa will be in your area.
Thanks
Hi Teepa. I think I already posted that my wife and I love your informative and entertaining presentations. You come across as a long time (I refuse to say old) friend.
Last month I underwent a PET CT scan, which with previous MRIs, blood testing, etcetera is tracking a rare form of leukodystrophy, now shows "early level" dementia.
We've not determined which variety, but my neurologist immediately prescribed medication commonly used for Alzheimer's patients. I personally am thinking more along Lewy Body only because of the brain area examined, but what do I know?.
Nevertheless, my wife told me she has seen inductions in my behavior. I find it odd, at this level I'm aware of some dementia related behaviors when they are pointed out and explained. My question is, at what point will I not longer be aware? I know I have a wonderful support community I just do not want to forget them.
As I once told both my neurologist and my pastor (separately) I'm now afraid of dying, but the process has ne concerned.
Your reply, or some those who have gone before us would be appreciated. Be a blessing.
Thank you for sharing, Mr. Mike! There are no simple answers to your questions as this journey is different for everyone and it depends on your own biochemistry as well as the type of dementia. Please join us for one of our upcoming chats for people living with dementia: teepasnow.com/services/online-learning/live-public-webinars/webinars-for-plwd/
EXCELLENT!!!
❤
My mom got dementia in 2004 and lived until 2008, then my dad got Parkinson from 2008 to 2020. Even 3 years later after his death, I tell people about your videos. They are awesome! God Bless.
Hi, @Susan Reaves, I'm sorry for your losses, but I'm glad that you were there for both of your parents. Thanks for sharing our videos with others. We appreciate it so much!
Hi Susan, how's your day going with you?

Hi Diane, how's your day going with you?
Hi Teepa, I saw you today in association with McGill, and would like to know more about where to begin. My mother was diagnosed 4 years ago, and has just started beginning to exhibit signs of not seeing what is right in front of her. Your video today helped me immensely with understanding of the progression. ❤️
Please connect with us via our website and we can help you figure out which direction to step in.
Hi Lorie, how's your day going with you?
That letting it go advice works for all of life.
Thanks for recognizing that much of our work goes beyond dementia care, @baxtercol! Letting it go, can work in many situations. It's about choice, yes?
Hi Colleen, how's your day going with you?
@@teepasnowvideos thanks for the thumbs up, how are you spending your spare time?
Sharing with my IDT💜
Glad to hear that, @Dr. G! Thanks
I’m learning
Glad to hear, @Salmia Ellis!
I was told by my therapist to access some of Tepee's videos to help center myself as a caregiver for my wife with dementia. I only disagree a bit about this experience being a "journey." It's no journey. Journey are what our friends are doing, going to Europe on cruises and the like in their retirement. I'm on an evolving experience with my wife, but it's no journey I'm afraid.
Hi, @Donald Siegel, thanks for sharing your thoughts with us about the evolving experience you are having with your wife. We are glad that you did take some time to listen. Our team at Positive Approach is available if you've ever like to discuss this experience or if you would like to talk through some issues/situations. We offer free 30-minute sessions. Email consult@teepasnow.com to set one up or check out this section of our website for more information (teepasnow.com/resources/for-families-and-friends/)

I'm a CHHA with 16yrs experience. My patient has dementia but his case is very rare. He refuses to change his clothes even though he's wet. He hasn't bathed in a while and he gets aggressive and verbally abusive when we try to get him to change. Other than that situation he's ok. My patients wife needs help. Can you or anyone help...PLEASE. Thank you
Hi, @virginiaeyes388, we would be happy to help your patient's wife. Please have her reach out to us at consult@teepasnow.com or 1-877-877-1671 for a free 30-minute session. You can also check out some other videos (www.youtube.com/@teepasnowvideos/search?query=bathing)
Hi Virginia, how's your day going with you?
I love all of your videos, Teepa! I found I'm my own worst enemy in creating stress and started letting go awhile ago. While I've learned a lot, I have a situation where fear of scars and short term memory deficit is stopping my Mom from being treated for Basal Cell Carcinoma on her nose in what would normally be an in office procedure although we were cautioned a flap may be required. The surgeon has said as an alternative, to monitor annually for growth but it's already like arrows pointing at her nose. My concern is it will be a much larger issue and in fact result in more severe scarring if we let this go. I am her POA for health. What to do?
Hi, @klehman4832, wow, this is an interesting situation. How about you reach out to our consultant team so that we can help you talk through some solutions? Call 1-877-877-1671 or email consult@teepasnow.com.

My Mom fell and hit her head really hard, Doctors say that She has dementia HOW? Please answer 🙏
Hello, @Janet Starnes, I've never heard that a head injury from a fall causes dementia. It may have brought some other issues to light, but I would suggest meeting with one of our consultants to figure out how to talk with the doctor to get more answers. Please reach out to consult@teepasnow.com or 1-877-877-1671 to set up a free 30-minute session.
This woman is so amazing. So nuturing
Teepa? How much do you share with your children about what is going on with thier dad?
Hi, denisedavies5950, thanks for asking the question and I'm going to give an answer you might not like as I'm going to say it depends. I'm not trying to be glib, but truly how much you share is going to depend on the age of the child, their ability to understand things, and the relationship that you have with them. I'm wondering if you might want to talk with one of our consultants to delve deeper into this question. Please reach out to them (consult@teepasnow.com or 1-877-877-1671) to get a free 30-minute session.
I get no recognition they expect me to do it I don't get a thank-you hey you're doing a great job, thank you for taking care of us and why don't you two sit down take a rest. I don't have time to take a rest I have to put mop pads and diapers I have to constantly change her bag to pick up poop for the dog off the floor and it just kills me like there's just no she didn't care before she got dementia I was expected to do this and it just kills me a week and I'm getting $350 a week for two people in my family dog and the dog is treated better than I do I have to beg for something for food and grocery store me talk to you and how about something about when we get angry when we get used and it would your taking care of two people this when he talks about taking care of one person with dementia who won't do anything to help himself he won't walk you just gives up and I hate it cuz I'm just being used and I hate it and I don't know what to do
Wow, @Allison Wilson, it sounds like you are having a really difficult time. I'm so sorry that is happening to you. Not getting recognition for all of your work must be extremely frustrating. I'm wondering if you would like to connect with one of our consultants for a free 30-minute session to talk through some of this and not to feel so alone. Contact us at 1-877-877-1671 or consult@teepasnow.com.
