You're a very good instructor. Normally I find it hard to follow hair tutorials but your way of explaining and showing the techniques are spot on.
You do have a lot to say about something "simple"... but for people like me who are NOT hair-style inclined, the details help a lot. the simple things you talk about are things that I would have no clue how to fix. ive tried to do this type of messy bun a million times and it has never worked. lol but I sat at my computer and did with my hands what you were doing (no mirror) and suddenly it worked! thanks!
Watched loads of top knot vids and couldn’t get the hang of them. Did this one twice and it freaking works! I’ve got super long, thin hair and it looks like I’ve got thick full hair. Love this tutorial, thank you
I'm probably the only dude here, but I just wanted to say thanks for the video! I want to get a top knot myself (kinda the hipster with a beard and top knot look :p) but all male tutorials show me how to make those tiny little buns for shorter hair. I know this was probably meant for girls, but thanks anyway. It helped :)
Thomas Raes you are not alone, I will maybe put out a "How to do a messy manbun" when I get a bit longer hair.
Finally. I've been trying to get this right for years. This is the first tutorial that worked for me. I kept thinking maybe my hair or head wasn't right for it. Took me awhile to get the part where you twisted the hair, but I think that's really the key to the bun. I struggled for awhile until I realized I needed to let go of the hair except for my thumb and forefinger to twist the hair. Thanks, great tutorial!

My friend does this the same way but puts her hair into a high-ponytail but doesn't tie it. She then twists it around like you did and wraps it around then ties it.. but the problem with that is because i have such thick hair it weighs it down and the hair just above my neck starts falling out of the bun.... anyone else have this problem?
Skylar Lightwood for me the whole bun just falls right after and the bun only works if its the ballerina type cuz its tight af but idl it :/

OMG love you!! I have super long hair too and washing every day is so bad for it so I usually do this and if its looking kinda greasy I will trough a bandana in as a head band!!! So awesome,I thought I was the only one who did this kind of bun!! I get so many compliments and I dont even try lol love it!!

aw thanks, i think the camera makes it look better than in person lol. But I just get subtle layers so it lays nicely and some face framing layers in the front :)

lol i tried it out and it worked the first time!!!!!! and i am sooooo happy im not the only one with 'wings'!! i usually straghten my hair and it kind've straightens out the flyaways too, thats how i get rid of it. the hairspray tip helped a lot!!

I have super thick hair and I've never been able to do a top knot. This was really helpful. Thank yoooou~
My hair is long thick and curly, but I do my topknot this way too! I don't use hair spray, though because it pretty much stays put. I use leave in conditioner before I get started to tame fly aways and make the edges of my hair look nice and tame.

Very well done tutorial and it looks adorable on you. I would love to wear this look... BUT my hair is way too thick and heavy to wear it like this without it being uncomfortable. I think your kind of hair is perfect for this particular look. And your make-up looks so pretty w/ the earrings and that lip color!!

i love this style, it worked fine for me, except I have side swept bangs so I just poofed my bangs slightly (or rather they did it on their own) and it looks way cute.

thank u! ive always been about half way there because I used the same technique but would end up with a pathetic little mini bun which I always cursed my thin hair for. I was just missing the "diagonal pull" and loosen and tighten from the center technique. Thanks!
