    The ney ney scale is from master teacher Seth Riggs and his speech level singing course.

We are all finding our voice, we are all trying to be amazing in our own way, I come away from this video with great tips for healing my high notes and remembering I don't need to sound like anyone else and that thin is okay in high notes, I think that's where I've been going wrong all these years. I finally learned how to add compression to my head voice in order to achieve a mixed voice, it opened up my chest voice into C5, I didn't have the courage to attempt any higher for risk of injury. This exercise really helped me today as I was strengthening the area and helped take some of the edge off of the vocal fry that is occurring due to the weakness of my chords within my pasaggio. Thanks a lot!

    I studied with Seth Riggs Canadian affiliate Bill Vincent in the 90's who sadly passed away, then with Falconer Abraham. I'm in the advanced category of Speech level singing at this point, yet I'm not singing! Arrggh.
    Great video! Takes me back in time. My beginner problem was high larynx, and being to nasal. Had to work on low larynx exercises which totally helped.
    If you check out the 2 quick little singing videos on my channel (nothing special), you can tell the difference between one before I got back into training and the other one where I trained again and completely opened up my register.
    I'm subbing to you! Keep up the fantastic work brother!

      The proper musical terminology for "comfort zone" is called your "Tessitura." It means where the majority of the notes lie that don't kill ya to sing them. You can really sing 3 Octaves well? Judging by your comfort notes I would say you are a tenor. C5 is high C for a tenor. Listen to "Nessun Dorma" with a younger Pavarotti singing it (hey he still sounded great like at 70 but y'know) And at the end of the aria when he sings the last "Vincero" (victory) that's a tenor high C. I hope this helps.

    Sir, I am 17 years old boy untrained singer. In the March 2021 , I just grabbed headphones up the volume to 60 percent. I noted down my range , lowest note : G2 and highest note : A4 , little hitting to C5 . In female voice : highest was F5 . If I train my voice how high can I go in both male and female voice? Sir , from April 1st 2021 my voice turned into scratchy and air rushing when I speak and it faded by end of April from may till now I have mucus buildup , and I could see my voice box dropped near chest bone . My speaking voice lowered from G3 - A2 to A2 - F2 present from 1 week. I determined that I am growing 2 cm for every 6 months. Is my vocal cord healing? thick white mucus get out of my mouth when I unable to breath because mucus irritates me it’s noisy when mucus is present. If I clear mucus no sound when breathing.

    Neigh and gaahh also slide from high to low , smooth out the area between
    Making that sylable puts your larynx in a yawning angle , better for going higher
    Also tilting your head back to free up your adams apple
    Anyone tilting their head down is doing it wrong

    • @ramseyvoicestudio
      @ramseyvoicestudio  5 років тому

      Hey McMinn, yes "nay" and "Gah" smooth out your bridge area. But the "nay" doesn't put your larynx at a "yawning angle". It actually raises the larynx which brings the vocal folds together.
      Unfortunately, tilting your head back will not free up your adam's apple. You should keep your neck relaxed and your gaze forward. Check out this article to see some pics of what I mean: www.ramseyvoice.com/how-to-sing/

    Are daily scales the only tried and true way to master head voice and high notes?
    I Have such a problem with falling into falsetto.
    I mean I have a powerful falsetto but my dream is to
    sing those high songs like Morten Harket of a-ha.
    For example I can sing the high note in 'take on me,' but only with falsetto.
    I just cant pull my head voice up without really straining hard, I end up failing and, I end up coughing, and being left miserably disappointed.
    Tell me the truth, if I got some professional training, could I learn to sing all my falsetto notes with my real voice instead???

    • @ramseyvoicestudio
      @ramseyvoicestudio  7 років тому +9

      Hey TheSweepingRaveWave, first of all, hitting high notes without falsetto is a skill!
      In my experience, I can tell you that usually it takes more than working with songs to sing high without falsetto because in a song there are too many moving parts. Vowels, consonants, and volumes are changing constantly in songs.
      Scales and exercises are the best way to hit high notes without falsetto because the vowel/consonant remains constant. In this case, the "ay" vowel also is helping thin the vocal folds without going to falsetto. The bratty sound accomplishes the same.
      Once you've mastered the scales shown in the video, the next step would be singing the bratty "Nay" on a song and seeing if you can maintain the balance there.

    I'm 57 male and have lost my range badly with age. (I used to be able to sing Shania Twain's 'From this Moment' & 'Faithfully' by Journey, including the brutal final "I'm for-ever yours!" final verse at the very end, which was the highest most difficult note I was ever able to hit).
    Anyways, whenever I attempt the soprano range you demonstrate here, I instantly break to falsetto on the final hi octave note in each chord, if I want to stay in key. Should I actually allow the falsetto, or practice the lower tenor range for awhile and then attempt the soprano range later?
    I appreciate your time & response if your able, & thank you kindly for this free video amigo. 😎

    Thanks so much for the lesson. I always sing in chest voice but I find it hard to transition into mixed or head voice. When I do your scales I can do them all even up to c# , what would you suggest now? Do I just practice and practice the bratty technique as often as possible and then this should train my voice? Thanks!

    You still aren't explaining how your voice is staying connected, just because you make that nay nay sound,doesnt reassure that the chords will stay connected. it just sounds like a way to disguise when you" suddenly" switch from m1 to m2, if I am wrong about that, please explain how its done in a more detailed explanation. Thanks

    • @ramseyvoicestudio
      @ramseyvoicestudio  7 років тому +6

      Hey Rick, great question! You're absolutely right. Just because someone sings a bratty nay nay, this does not ensure that they will stay connected to mode 2 (or head voice/middle voice/mix voice whatever the heck you wanna call it). Different voices may need different approaches. This is one that I feel works best for the most people and is something most folks can do at home.
      Anytime you're switching from a TA dominant M1 to a more CT dominant M2, there is some binary switch that happens in the laryngeal structure. With the bratty sound, we're thinning the folds so that they are already thinning out for that switch. In effect, we're helping the folds thin to the destination structure. EVERYONE has a switch, but in the words of Ken Bozeman, "If you don't hear the switch, does it really matter?"

    • @ramseyvoicestudio
      @ramseyvoicestudio  6 років тому +1

      Yeah Guitar Tricks. Many different names for the same effect: necessary twang, edge, ring, ping, bratty, ugly, pharyngeal... It all amounts to the same thing: getting the vocal folds to thin out for your high notes, while still vibrating effectively. THAT'S what creates those awesome high notes.

    I’m here because I want to be able to perform for instance, Forever Yours (Faithfully)
    Without belting it, but without sounding quacky.
    I’m a first tenor, but not like Bruno Mars and MJ, which I believe were (are) countertenors, so I can belt it, but would like to be able to sing with a more relaxed lyric quality.
    What is a good exercise and technique to able to get the Steve Perry/Deen Castronovo tone ?
    I have always wanted to do this, but I’m naturally better at the Jeff Buckley, Matthew Bellamy (Muse), Chris Martin, Thom Yorke style of singing which is more false cord based to my ears.
    How do I hit this register with resonance and volume without having that quacky, overly squeezed sound ?
    I will appreciate any tips. Thanks.

      @ramseyvoicestudio  5 років тому

      Hey Zhiyong, great question! You're trying to find a MIX with this exercise. Not just chest, not just falsetto: a mix. I would try to sing the notes in a "bratty" falsetto voice and see if you can get some more power that way. Make sure to read this closely: ramseyvoice.com/how-to-hit-high-notes/

    I’ve viewed similar exercises but somehow, my falsetto is “automatic” IDK. Like, I can reach high notes by pulling my chest voice (as high as C#5) which I’ve done with a very unhealthy mix. But doing this exercise, I stuck to falsetto :( Maybe because I got too used to it that it even expanded all the way down to B2 (A2). Sucks :/

    • @ramseyvoicestudio

      Hey I Do, gotcha. Yes, it's possible that the tension of the "bratty" sound of this video is too much for you. I have a new video with tons of different exercises that are a bit more relaxed: ua-cam.com/video/cYqQ6ymdI38/v-deo.html

    I have had vocal training decades ago which gave me the basic fundamentals of breathing, scales, pitch etc... I have always had a very wide range on the scale with my voice and never had a problem with projection. I am not a professional by any means but I do love to sing. I have found that within the last year I am having issues with not being able to hit high notes all the time. My voice will literally cut out and not allow me to hit the high note and my voice will come right back as soon as I come down the next octave Then I am becoming hoarse after singing only a few songs. I stupidly did smoke for 5 years but have quit. The funny thing is I never had issues with my voice during the time I did smoke. I quit over 2 years ago and this is just now starting to become an issue. How do I fix this?! Or should I see an ENT for evaluation

  • @NATmusic27
    @NATmusic27 5 років тому +1

    One thing I don't get: why when someone sings a F4 the actually corresponding pitch on the piano is F3? For example if you sing the middle C, you'd say you've singed a C4 while on the piano is a C3

    • @ramseyvoicestudio
      @ramseyvoicestudio  5 років тому

      Hey NAT, middle C on piano actually IS C4. I think it's possible that you're playing the notes an octave lower than you're singing. It's pretty common. If it helps, here's a piano diagram: www.harmoniumnet.nl/klavier-keyboard-ENG.html

      The same place. I'm starting all men around Bb2 which should be fine for starting the 1.5 octave scale.
