Apparently, when the girls were on the plane after the performance, a flight attendant said them, " You were on TV, right?" and gave them lots of chocolate.😅
Sometimes we say or think something like "Gimme Chocolate... again..." specially with new reactors to BABYMETAL. But this performance is the embodiment of the reason why we love "Gimme Chocolate" live. No matter how many times we have experienced it live in person, it's always a blast! 🤘🦊
Don't listen to Babymetal quite as much as I used to/should do, but Boh has been my favourite bass player since i first saw a live video of him, he's so energetic and funny bouncing around like a mad man at any and every opportunity.
Awesome John! This was definitely an amazing performance as always! I’m glad some fans were able to make it there as well to support! I’ll be seeing them in DC in a few weeks, can’t wait!! 🤘🦊
One thing about the sound .. During an interview Mikio said during sound check that when the arrived they seen mics in front of the speakers. Mikio said that he thought they were props.. He told the sound people that their sound would be too loud and distorted in the small studio and to do the sound In Line. So they listened and there you go... Unfortunately on 2 of the 7 on stage are still with Babymetal now.. Rest in Peace Mikio Fujioka 🤘🏻🎸. Also Yui missing since 2017.
This performance was uploaded on their official YT channel for about 3 months (they take down music vids after that for whatever reason) - I babysat the comments during that period and must have left hundreds of replies. It was insane lol.. tens of thousands of comments. So many confused Americans coming to the upload. But a great deal so happy that something HEAVY had been played on US prime time TV. Funny thing is.. most people thought Mikio was a cute girl 😂
Great stuff. I recall reading about 17 fans had managed to get tickets so they could give them a proper reception. Apparently on the flight home the stewardess recognised them and asked if they were "the chocolate girls" she had seen on TV - and then made sure they got everything they needed.
This moment is what pushed them truly viral everywhere. It was already starting, but this is by a huge margin the largest spike in viewership and search results they have ever had. Over 10 million people watched this on TV that night. Also, completely live vocals from all three girls, a rarity for this song. Glad youre going to the shows coming up. I am going to the Madison, Des Moines, and Anaheim shows myself so I wont see you, but we both going (again) just like last year. There were so many of the OG BABYMETAL fans in that crowd, went to the show JUST for this.
Not really there were very few babymetal fans in that audience as there was very little turnaround time between the time they announced them appearing on the show and when it happened
Awesome to hear that you are going to see them live again!. Personally can't wait for the Europe Arena tour they announced like a week ago that's happening next year. Will be first time for me travelling outside my country just for a concert since unfortunately they aren't going to my country but I am so excited to see them in Poland!
The Colbert staff notified Babymetal fans of their up coming performance on the show. So their fans were seated up front for the show. There is real short of the girls going to their bus, a bit surprised people were waiting for them.
I experienced this 3 times in a row and it's just a classic to have fun with this one, I gave a present to MoaMetal when performing live at Audio in São Paulo, don't tell anybody John.🤫 Kitsune up!🦊🤘🔥
Babymetal live is amazing and because it's just 1 song, they can somehow deliver it so much more intense than normally. Honestly, it's impressive. My favorite performance of the song. About the audio: I don't remember who's interview it was from Babymetal side, but they said the studio was putting up microphones to capture the sound and Babymetal's sounds person/people/Kami band talked to them: if you do this the sound will not be good, in such loud music in such a small venue it will be a mess. We'll give you a line and Babymetal did that and it was almost like it was a revelation the studio audio people that this was possible at all and they were very impressed and happy with the results. And I think this was also my favorite Babymetal's sound person. They lost them after the pandemic, which is why I think Babymetal's audio especially at festivals is less than ideal. Kobametal said that because the pandemic a lot of staff who do live gigs had left that part of the industry. You have to remember these people are often self-employed, literally gig workers. Those years without any gigs, it's just not sustainable. About the crowd: yes, Babymetal fans knew they would be on there and it's often not really announced, but we suspected something like this was going to happen and someone knew somebody and thus those who are deed into Babymetal fox hole knew it was coming, so we were able to get a good number of fans into the show. And they waited for hours outside in the cold. Babymetal was being courted to perform at a bunch of different TV shows in the US and also UK and Babymetal got to choose. I guess the TV shows like making exclusive deals ? Because otherwise Babymetal could have been on a bunch of more shows I'm certain. Babymetal's first TV show in the US was the same stage as the Beatles' first TV show in the US. Only sad thing, Babymetal destroyed the famous stage ! 🙂 A day before this performance I was still in the UK, as a tourist, because I had seen them perform at Wembley Arena near/in London, the start of the 2016 tour. Colbert tweeted: Babymetal stops by after they finish their homework. And honestly, it's possible that this is real, we've actually seen reporters mention that Babymetal was doing homework at festivals from the year before/previous world tour. They had to do daily some school work, while touring. The official video on UA-cam stayed up for a year or something (this is the normal deal the show does, I'm not certain how it works, it seems like a strange deal) and in that year it ranked extremely high on the official channel, highest for any musical act even, I believe. If not, it was at least fasted rising video. RIP Mikio, still a legend, not just was a legend.
It's cool if the song is too bewildering. Gimme Choco has always been a polarizing song for newcomers, its WTF element either instantly addictive or a complete turnoff (no middle ground). That said, surely you can spot the Ramones & Plastic Bertrand influences in the otherwise thrash-metal instrumentation. The unique thing with BM is they always change metal subgenres literally from song to song. If you're still intrigued, check out 'Road Of Resistance Live In Japan' (powermetal), 'Kingslayer' (metalcore), 'Ratatata' (electronicore), 'BxMxC' (trap metal), et al. The live birthday versions of 'Headbanger' ('Legend Z' 2013, 'Legend S Baptism XX' 2017, 'Legend M' 2019, 'Legend MM' 2024) also showcased how the impressive crowd participation parts would evolve ever more astonishingly at each subsequent live show. Their 3 versions of 'Monochrome' (lyric video, First Take piano, live) are also deeply resonating in different ways. Remember to turn on the subtitles. Kawaii metal itself remains unique & eclectic during its now-long (currently 14th year) history. 2010-2017 was more kawaii than metal (the songs can't help but align with their teenage years, or hide their girlish vocals), & several fledging bands had also hitched onto the BM bandwagon then. 2018-present is more metal than kawaii (the girls maturing in their twenties, have won hard-earned credibility, suffered some real-life setbacks, & were influenced by their peers on the foreign tour circuit) & BM became known more as the gateway to the 'loud' (metal/rock) scene in Japan.
This video, apropos of nothing has made me realise something odd. This was the first Babymetal song I heard. And I fell down the usual Foxhole of WTF, Woah, Whooooooah, fandom, pseudo-worship. I listened to Babymetal and nothing else. In the car commuting, at work, in the evening to go to sleep. At one point I estimated I'd listened to (then) 3 albums for about 6,000 hours.😊😊 And then it stopped. I'm not entirely going to blame the pandemic, but that certainly shook things up. But inderectly from that, I now work from home. I don't have that commute to liven up. I don't have office noise to drive out. I'm in my own home, enjoying the peace. And this reaction actually made me cry a bit, because all the above is just so sad.😢 I need Babymetal back in my life now. Thank you for helping me to realise this. ❤❤❤
an unexpected appearance I imagine but a fun watch, I was just done watching your vlogs for One ok rock and Mcfly glad you enjoyed your trip to our fair island. You watched one ok rock in the very venue Babymetal was the first Japanese act to play and broke merch records. Then you watched Mcfly at the O2 where someone will have to correct me if I'm wrong, possibly Babymetal will be the first Japanese act to play in May 2025. I remember Mcfly were big back in the day they had some good songs that looked like they still got a pretty big following.
Hi!!! There is a rock band that ı wish you can react their name is Pentegram / Mezarkabul they have 2 names because there is an another band called Pentegram. Anyway Pentagram / Mezarkabul - 'Lions in a Cage' is the song ı recommend. The band is a turkish rock band but The song I recommend is in English. Pentegram / Mezarkabul was formed in 1986. They are still creative and plan to bring out a new album in 2025. The song is about Osman III's life which is goes like this; When his father was deposed from the throne in 1703, he was taken back to Istanbul and imprisoned in the cage. he was 4 years old when this happened. Osman III lived in the cage for 51 years. His elder brother Mahmud's embassy on 1 October 1730, he became the biggest prince waiting for the throne. This was the longest wait in history for the Ottoman throne. The first procession of his enthronement was held on 14 December 1754. He was the sultan of the Ottoman Empire from 1754 to 1757.

@@Tyyppl For sure. I could have worded it better. I have watched many of his reactions. I was addressing my comment to new viewers that have not experienced BABYMETAL before.🦊 🖖❤
⚡ 💀 💕 / 🍫 💝 It's a shame they never perform this song anymore. Ha ha. Just kidding. : ) The BABYMETAL team insisted on setting up their own sound for this performance. A little strange that they were promoting the Metal Resistance album, and decided to go with this song from the first album. They did go with 'Karate' a few months later at the Alternative Press Music Awards (APMA) show.
I remember watching this when it was on... unfortunately, I figured they were a gimmick band at the time and slept on them, until a couple of years ago. 😅
While I appreciate you wishing them luck it certainly feels like they don't need it at the moment since they are more succesful than ever and just announced a huge arena tour in Europe:D
Love this, this is a great attitude, sometimes we see comments who.. well, basically hate on them, but just saying: it's not for me, is the right way to look at it, no need to hate on them.
Never understood why people feel the need to say bad things about a band to prop their favorite band up. Do you think Vob would be happy to hear that their fans speak bad about babymetal just to make Vob look better?
Apparently, when the girls were on the plane after the performance, a flight attendant said them, " You were on TV, right?" and gave them lots of chocolate.😅

Gimme Chocolate live still hits hard....even today.
I don't remember actually seeing the audience standing during a musical performance on the show. Long live Babymetal!
I'll be be Japan during their U.S. tour, but will be at their O2 show in London next year. Their biggest venue outside Japan.
Oh wow!!!!!!!!!!!
