I remember loving this show, and that stupid theme song would stick in my head for the next ten straight days. Thanks for reminding me of how cool that show was.
This was my freaking favorite show as a kid. The theme song was the best ever. Thanks for bringing up great memories. BTW, im pretty sure only 1 kid in the history of the show actualy caught Carmen Sandiego...if memory serves right.
Interestingly, Where in Time is Carmen Sandiego premiered on October 7, 1996, the same day Hey Arnold premiered on Nickelodeon. Also on that same day, the Fox News Channel launched.
This is the theme I grew up with, its crazy how catchy this was being I was born in 1993 and this melody not nessicarily the lyrics are stuck I'm my head until this day.
FalconKPD/ChickenLeg91/shadowriser22: Instead of Rockapella singing about geography (as per the Where in the World predecessor), this is the sequel where the Engine Crew sings about history via time-travel. The only connections between the two shows would be that both aired on PBS during the 90's and both starred Lynne Thigpen as The Cheif of ACME CrimeNet.
@residentwriter Well, you're lucky you remember it. I only remember seeing the tail end of one episode once. I was only 5 years old when the show left the air.
@residentwriter I think you've just answered your own question dude. The show lasted two seasons on PBS, running from October 7, 1996 until October 2, 1998.
I think the clip from the end theme music of WITICS Season 1 is the episode when Sir Vile stole the Statue of Liberty because I am assuming that was time pilot Matt that managed to trap Carmen after finishing operating the device by pulling the rope to lift the Egyptian up to the top and completed the trail of time. It's my guess. I'm not sure about this.
I see at 0:36 that the kid managed to capture Carmen in this episode, even if he had to open the final gate manually (If you look closely from 0:45 to 0:51, you can see a weight at the end of the rope swaying slightly).
@supercomputer276 I see. Thanks, that's quite interesting. :) Doesn't that mean that the previous unchanged history wasn't really history after all, though?
i ask because i could not tell whether the orb in the center of the podium was lit or not. (if it was then you would know that the player did capture her.)
what episode is this one? I know it came right after episode 19 involving the garbage eating pigs which aired on July 29, 1996 and this one came three days later on August 2, 1996 as seen at 1:18 to 1:23
You mean it was taped on those dates. WiTiCS didn't start airing until October 7, 1996, and even then some of the earliest taped episodes didn't air until midway through the season.
This witics season 1 episode clip is most likely witics season 1 episode 49, the episode when Baron Wasteland stole the sewer systems. Hopefully somebody posts this episode on UA-cam in the future.
We're on the case and we're chasing her through history. Chronoskimmer, engines hot. V.I.L.E. villains, evil plot. Our brave squadron leader will help us defeat her. And bring back the loot to its rightful place in time. Tell me, where in time is Carmen Sandiego. Stop her crime and solve this mystery. Tell me, where in time is Carmen Sandiego. We're on the case and we're chasing her through history.
Vexillographer that’s why in season 2 of the show, they removed the “and was accurate as of the date this program was recorded” line. Instead, the chief said, “All historical information was verified by encyclopedia Britainica.”
@@ryang3331 at the time world completed season 1 of taping, massive geopolitical changes in the world happened which rendered the whole year geographically inaccurate and as per the practice of PBS at the time it was acceptable to wipe the whole of the year which pretty much prevented it from being re-ran again. Beginning from season 2 they had Lynne Thigpen say the line at the end of the credits, than display the copyright year of tape, than the names of the programs PBS members WGBH (as the WGBH educational foundation) and WQUED (as QED communications inc), than the tape date along with the year straight to the end of the series with the 5th season. For time they kept world's line for one year, removed that in season 2 and replaced that with the all historical information was verified by encyclopedia Brittanica. as both also were produced for the PTV park brand (the ancestor to PBS Kids) both did not survive the transition to PBS Kids 1 (the version funded by Directv) which would die in 2005 after directv (a hughes electronics company at the time) withdrew its funding, the network would choose its own shutdown ending our childhood as we knew it with the DVDs to many of the shows being extremely difficult to track. if either world or time had home media rights, and if PTV park believed in that at all they both would be difficult to track. for PBS Kids 2 (the current version) they both could benefit from a full HD restoration to the original 4:3 footage they were recorded in at the time for the older fans, giving us HD masters to both. while for the kids, they could benefit from being fully rebooted if the franchises current parent is up for it (Houghton Mifflin Harcourt). As both the world and history have significantly evolved since both were originally taped, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt would need the help of the franchises original parent and creator (Broderbund software incorporated) to make a version for the next generation and to do it in gameshow form.
No, you spelled her name right. Don't you think those shows (both "Where in the World" and "Where in Time") should be brought back? They would need a new actress for the Chief, but these shows back and updated would be cool.
Just Where in the World and stuff will probably change like the monitor may be bigger, they may have new villains, and well let's hope they would bring back Rockapella (or some other decent acappella group)
She was the queen of Carmen Sandiego shows! We'll never forget you, Lynn! We miss you!
Man, I miss this show! My nephew likes history, and he'd love this!
You're not the only who wants that. I wish to see this on GSN in the near future. I loved this show back in the day.
I remember loving this show, and that stupid theme song would stick in my head for the next ten straight days. Thanks for reminding me of how cool that show was.
Happy 25th Anniversary Where In Time is Carmen Sandiego. 1996 - 2021.
WHOO! Sweet sweet childhood memories!
This was my freaking favorite show as a kid. The theme song was the best ever. Thanks for bringing up great memories.

OMg...i watched this show when I was little. Brings back memories :)

a blast from the past, i remember watching this when i was like 6 or 7
TOTALLY remember those freaki'n time gates. Like legends of the hidden temple, it was a MIRACLE when a kid won the whole thing.
@agent001213 The 90s, the best decade for quality kid shows.
@residentwriter Well, you're lucky you remember it. I only remember seeing the tail end of one episode once. I was only 5 years old when the show left the air.
This credit sequence is from Episode 49, first airing on Thursday December 12, 1996.
I like this version better than season 2... =T
i miss this...
god i remember this show. good show...hahahaha lol the theme song is so catchy
Glad to hear it.
@residentwriter I think you've just answered your own question dude. The show lasted two seasons on PBS, running from October 7, 1996 until October 2, 1998.
Composed by Sean Altman and David Yazbek, and performed by Alaine Kashian, John Lathan, Owen Taylor, and Paula Leggett Chase.
I had some episodes on tapes but I cant find it now!
I would say the old PBS days officially ended in 2001 at the very latest.
RABBIDGamfan 2005
@Vexillographer I don't know, but I know geographic information changed a few times while Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego was on.
@ 0:59: Altman and Yazbek wrote this theme too?! Woah, didn't know that!
Either way, I used to love this show.
The day that this show replaced WITWICS was a sad, sad day.
This the best theme song
Someone actually thought that Omarosa should do it but I told that person "She's more likely to be the next Carmen Sandiego than be the new chief"
thevisual: The announcer was probably going to say, "Carmen's journey through time was brought to you by [sponsor list] and by Viewers Like You".
@TheElevatorPlanet No, just that in credit logo at the very end after the copyright, that credits both WGBH and WQED.
I think they showed re-runs of this in the mid-late 90s.
Goddamn this song is cool. Great show from what I can remember as well.
loved this show and loved that red haired back in the day
Holy balls! Almost 28 years ago! I seriously feel fucking old as hell!
I used to watch this everyday after Wishbone.
@acebojanglesable They weren't in this show. They were replaced with the "Engine Crew".

One more connection...Sean Atlman (formerly of Rockapella) wrote both themes and the two Lee's are definately related.
Music by Norman Yazbek and Sean Altman? So I guess Rockapella was still behind the music even after World ended?
I see at 0:36 that the kid managed to capture Carmen in this episode, even if he had to open the final gate manually (If you look closely from 0:45 to 0:51, you can see a weight at the end of the rope swaying slightly).
@TaurusWrangler When do you think you could post them? I'm eager to see more, since there are only a few episodes of this show on here.
what episode had the nintendo question?
@supercomputer276 I see. Thanks, that's quite interesting. :) Doesn't that mean that the previous unchanged history wasn't really history after all, though?
i ask because i could not tell whether the orb in the center of the podium was lit or not. (if it was then you would know that the player did capture her.)
Is that all you have or do you have any episodes of where in time?
When will Where in Time is Carmen Sandiego? be aired on GSN?
@Mk97709 It was.
I used to watch it, when I was a kid, like 14 years ago ahaha. but yea it wasnt half bad
Where is the engine crew now?
YOUR KIDDIN ME THEY FILMED THIS 10 MINUTES AWAY FROM MY HOUSE!?!?!?!?!?!?!
I Never saw the sow , But the Computer Game used 2 Be My Favs !

I hope GSN chooses to keep the funding credits and PBS logo on each episode.
Did they show the Wgbh logo at the end?
The music cuts out at 1:32. Was this recorded on a VCR?
Ok CAN YOU PLEASE UPLOAD THE ENTIRE EPISODE OR ATLEAST THE INTRODUTION WHERE SHE PICKS THE VILLIAN???????
No idea, all I've got are the themes.
How do you know this for sure?
From which episode did you get this?
This witics season 1 episode clip is most likely witics season 1 episode 49, the episode when Baron Wasteland stole the sewer systems. Hopefully somebody posts this episode on UA-cam in the future.
Suurender: We don't know when World or Time will air on GSN, if they do at all.
Isn't Sean Altman from Rockapella?
Indeed he is.
I also agree. I wish they brought this show back. I liked the theme from 1997 better.
1:17 How can historical information change?

Well, it's that I love it too much. It's stupid in the sense of I try and think of other things and this is all I can think of.

Wasn't this on Nickelodeon for a while?
Maybe I was watching it on PBS, I mean, I was only like, 4 or 5. Good memories though.
Well, I haven't heard any official announcements from PBS yet.
Huh... Well I have the memory of a 32 mb memory stick, so I can understand if I don't remember. Maybe it was PBS I was watching it on.

RIP Lynne Thigpen
Who sings this theme song?
lost in time
I actually miss this show...it was a decent replacement for the World show for a while.
Where in time was so much harder than where in the world...*sigh* both were good shows though
*gasp* YOU'RE CARMEN SAN DIEGO, AREN'T YOU.
This video is most popular with:
Males 18-24, Males 13-17, and Males 25-34
Just as I was expecting.
Btw, Dr. Belljar was my favorite villain.
I just have the theme and end theme to this.
The captin is really Carmens boyfriend thats why whenever she gets caught theres still a new episode but then he died
did the kid in this particular episode actually win the computer?
Looks like he did cause the capture crystal is in the chronolog chamber
Who was the white girl in this show?
@XOMoonlightXO same, I had all the CS games even the crappy one based off the cartoon
somebody please make this an Mp3 file!!!!
Carmen's journey through time is propelled by The Corporation For Public Broadcasting, and by the annual financial support of
Viewers Like You.
Where's Rockapella?
Jacqueline Hyde was my favorite not Carmen person on the show. I'm so Carmen obsessed I still have all my games, even the board game.
What dim432 is saying is NOTHING is on your side and the whole world is against you. ;-;
@gorrow1990 Would it make me cooler if I said the 90's was when I was born?
Oh, I remember this show pretty well. When it was on I found it kind of boring, but know that I'm older I now feign mroe interest.
i used to watch this show!!! and i would get upset if Carmen defeated whoever made it to the final round.
crao they beter bring the carmen shows back or illl exploade being a 90s kid must of been like a kid in heaven
Dr Belljar looks different than I remember.
GameShowNetwork: I should've known.
Uh yeah I said the same thing to the person that suggested that
