I have thrown and own many discs are my go-to's for a guaranteed straight flight are my Opto Fuse and Kasta glow Svea, Fuse handles more torque. Throw them on hyzer, and they flip to flat and ride nearly dead straight for the remainder of the flight. Uplink for understable shots, though either the Fuse or Svea can also fill that role. Can't leave out my DD Truth also very straight and will do basically any line you set it on as well as a couple Mako3's. I use my Roc3 for more overstable shots.

the straightest disc I have ever tried, was a DX Wombat3. after I lost it, I replaced with a Champion Wombat3 (because I loved it that much) and the champion one turns out to be more understable. last year's DX was truly a 0 0 flight, and only started displaying the -1 0 once it was very very beat in. what's nice about either one though, is they don't take in altitiude like most discs, making them very handy when you need to avoid branches and still make the distance you want.

Claymore seemed to have that truly straight flight, but maybe it was due to a lowere line which I also prefer.
can't go wrong with a Gold Ice fuse... its my secret weapon in the woods. Mako3 is OK, but seems more like a strong arm disc, vs the finesse of my fuse. I agree, the lack of fade is something to behold. Most fun disc I toss is the pearl tho. Its so stupid flippy and glides so far. It either works and looks like magic, or is a total disaster. Fun times in the woods!
I prefer the MANA by far to my 2 Buzzes (Z and bigZ). And it flies much farther than the Pathfinder. I have it in glow, and my 2 Pathfinders are in Ethos and Aura, which I originally bought for a 0 1 fade, but the Ethos just goes straight or - 1 1 after some use, but with less glide than the Mana.
How far are you throwing these discs? If it was mentioned, I missed it. Would be so helpful if you included a stamp with each throw of roughly how far each went (even +/- 20 ft would be very helpful). You already did a great job to mention the elevation. If you throw distance and wind conditions you'd have a great video. Bonus points if you mention temperature.
Westside Gatekeeper is a very straight mid for me. At 0 turn, 2 fade it is a laser for most of the flight but always finishes left. It's kind of slept on. I find it to be almost exactly like the compass.
These videos are great but I just want to point out that if you pause on release, you can see your player is throwing almost every single shot on slight hyzer. Don't get me wrong, that is my most comfortable release angle as well, but it does have an effect on flight. He is basically making every disc slightly more overstable, where the -1 turn is being used to just flip to flat, and you are seeing a more pronounced fade. You should consider this for future videos.
Yeah thats why i cant stand these videos. These people must think they are robotic with disc angles or something. Even a mm angle change will change the flight lol. People think they know more about the numbering process than the companies that have been doing it forever.
Well done Greg. I think the flight numbers for the Skeeter would be 5 5 -2 0 I prefer the Hex over the Mako3 in the hand. I'm LH so lots of forehand action for me on most courses.
Love these vids and I totally understand how much effort goes into them. My only problem with this is that while Caleb s a great thrower, he is throwing all of these on a slight hyzerflip. It's close to pro form and probably the best way to throw straight, but it does alter the idea of how true the discs fly. A lot will handle that little flip extremely well, others with little turn will just act overstable. He also tends to put some torque on them as he has a bit of a reverse briefcase causing some wobble. Watch the Mako3 in slow mo, a lot of discs will lose their stability with that much torque/wobble especially with his power. I have had a very similar thing in my form and as I've gotten my elbow up and the reach back a bit more out and away I still have a bit of that movement but its much smaller and the disc comes out much flatter and cleaner and I've noticed much different flight on mids and putters especially. Clean spin on putters and mids makes a huge difference. It's why Simon can get a glitch to go super far without acting super understable.
the stig just made my bag recently as that understable mid range slot, and what a workhorse. pretty understable if you give it some juice but shes perfect
honestly Caleb OATed that Star Mako 3 bringing a minimum of 70 degrees hyzer into the powerpocket then flattening it to below 15 before release, OF COURSE its going to flip. He looked less "wild" with the champion mako 3 though. I personally bag an opto fuse for that slot which would no doubt turn over for Caleb but goes 280´ dead flat for me on 60-70% power, the key is a rear-dominant grip for finicky precision discs like those which means the ringfinger and pinky are the ones gripping the rim and forming the pivotpoint with middlefinger+thumb providing angle control and indexfinger sitting on the outside of the rim or just below it.
When I was beginner, dx Wombat3 was the straightest glidiest disc. Laser-straight line (like for your Claymore test). After I lost it, bought a champion Wombat3, and it was more like a - 3 0! Rumor has it that Innova remade the mold. So I'm guessing that, along with the Skeeter, there are some models simply intended for those just starting out and in their very first weeks.
Great video. For me I find that if I want a fission disc to fly like the numbers straight out of the box, I need to go 165 gram max. The max weight fission definitely have more stability for sure, but like you mentioned, they do tend to beat in quicker and hold that sweet spot once you've done so. Surprised the eclipse was the straightest for you guys, even over the nuetron. Super interesting.
I like this series :) The Cosmic Piwakawaka is defenetly straighter then the atomic / glow. I love this disc for straight shots up to 330 feet, but i only bag it in Cosmic plastic and at max weight (180g). The 172g atomic / glow is verry understable in comparison. A video about weight would be nice too. edit: if you throw the Piwakawaka harder then you you need for the 330feet it will suddenly burn over verry hard for some reason
Agree, was just about to suggest the Piwakawaka - great disc for straight midrange & tunnel shots, glides well, and capable of pretty decent length if you don't overcook it.
After my mako hit a few trees it decided to turnover a bit more then necessary. It ended up in a river in a town I was working in that week. Got me a m2 now but need another one or another buzz.
I throw Pathfinder for 250-300 straight but when I need to get there just as straight with less effort, the mvp rythym. I bought this disc after I lost my Fission Crave on hole 5 at Maple Hill. I can power up on the rythym and hyzer flip it just as far as my destroyer goes. Impressive disc
If you can get one, the MVP Detour is a very straight flying disc. Maybe a touch on the understable side but for me it's super straight. I would also say Fission is very different depending on weight. Max weight Fission is more stable than lightweight Fission in general. A Fission Hex in the 165g weight range will be pretty straight from my experience. Great video.
Roc3/Method are very similar in baseline plastic and end up being pretty straight once thrown for a few rounds. But if you are looking for straight out of the box in a premium plastic, definitely try a Mako3, MD1 if you run an innova or Discmania bag.
Cool. Love my Mako3 as it is straight for me but I've not tried that many midranges. Mako3, Buzzss, Wombat and Leviathan. My Mako is champion same as the one you tested
I'm a mile above sea level, so everything is a bit more overstable for me, but I find that my Lizottle glow Hex is significantly more overstable than my MD1/Mindbenders, so I was a bit surprised to see that Axiom glow Hex fly so straight. I'd love a Hex that flew like that. All my glow discs are meathooks.
Suggestion! Add distance and speed of each throw. Bonus points for having him always throw at a target then measure final fade or turn off the center line. If I know there is a 20’ fade on a 60mph shot that travels 350’. Super valuable info.
MVP modulates fission weight by changing the mass in the overmold, the flight plates are all the same for any run. This means that a max weight fission disc is going to be beefy because it has more angular momentum and a min weight will be flippy for the same reason
Love the "flight numbers don't matter" series! got a new idea for you, test different molds within the same brand against eachother. just bought a Metal flake champion Roc3 and a Star Metal Warrior 2. Even tho Roc3 has the numbers 5 4 0 3 and the Metal Warrior 5 5 0 2, i feel like the Metal Warrior is more stable than the Roc3. I still love innova but i really think every brand should do a better job on the flight numbers.
If you make a part 3, you should use the innova vcobra. It's a 5|5|-1|2 and it's incredibly straight, although it's not too readily available with it being mostly out of production/it only gets limited runs on the pro shop
You guys need to try the glow mana from TSA. It’s my favorite straight mid. Yes it can be understable when I need that too. But on a good hyzer it flips up and goes dead straight.
Skeeter looks to be a -3 0. I've been a Buzzz fan for a long while as not a big fan of beads so avoided Rocs. I did throw in a few Roc3's in a F2 order recently tho and also have both a Hex and an ESP Buzzz SS to try out. I have a Z one somewhere and never liked the feel of it unfortunately. Hoping to get out and test new discs soon
My md3 is my straightest flying mid next to my MVP Reactor. If you’re continuing the series, the glow reactor is pretty wildly straight with good arm speed
This is what I was coming here to say! I still havent thrown a Hex but I love my glow Reactor. Forehand or backhand, you can put alot of power on it and it laser beams straight with little fade, if any. If the Hex did so well they should try the Reactor
@@bsage5609 the hex is also awesome. The md1 is also a laser beam if you can take a little heat off of it and just let it flip up to flat, the fade is awesome it’s almost like a glitch, just floats to a straight stop. Been loving the discmania mids, but I still bag a hex for slight turnover shots and a reactor for windy days.
I’ve had a very different experience with all the fission discs I’ve thrown. But I think that could be related to an issue I think this video has, release angle. Players are getting straight flights by hyzer-flipping a less stable disc or flat releasing an actual straight flyer. Having just one person hyzer-flipping the discs isn’t great for players who throw flat or even with a touch of anny.
Did you get a max weight fission hex? In my experience the fission plastic is affected by weight more than other plastics. It is beefier than all other plastics at max weight and flipper than all other plastics in a light weight.
The Comet and the eclipse Hex's flight paths showed significantly less lateral movement than any of the other discs. Why was the Buzz SS chosen over the Comet when we could see very clearly that it flew a much wider path than the Comet?
Weight is also an important factor in the “take this all with a grain of salt” discussion. My 165 neutron Hex is an arrow for me. Threw my buddy’s 175 for a bit… stable city.
Beat in DX ROC is very straight for me. I also throw the DX Dart for those straight shots. It’s officially a putter, but it’s really fast and goes pretty far and kinda boarders on being a mid.
The simple fact that after learning what flight nimbers are supposed to mean made me 100x better means they do matter. I coukdve thrown a million times and tamer my discs. But by knowing what those numbers are supposed to mean really helped tbh. In my experience they mean a lot kore than you give credit for. Just not across different brands. Every brand is different in that aspect.
Awesome video btw :) To my surprise, my straight workhorse mid is a ProFlex MMUS (needs to be purple lol). Bought it replace my M4’s, but wow. It replaced the Overstable workhorse slot 😅 (Don’t waste time on the MMS’s though… super flippy 😢 flight numbers suck haha)
i was hoping to see that k1 hard stig in action. great disc! dont have a fav straight mid range but the glow musitang is what i bag. if thrown hard it does straighten out but probably isnt straight, the LSS is pretty strong
I was hoping to test a stock Stig but we sold out of ours recently so we'll have to test that in the future! Though, we did do a video about the Stig when it was first released, it was pretty understable so I didn't immediately think of it for a straight mid test.
that k1 hard is pretty straight unless you really blast it. it moves right much less than reg k1 for me, i have a first run & the k1 hard gold color. really dig it@@SixSidedDiscs
When I first started playing, the Mako3 was dead straight. But, I couldn't throw over 300 feet. Now I borrow my buddy's Halo Mako3 from time to time and it is great for hyzerflips, but it is not "straight".
My true "flight numbers dont matter" moment was when i realized that a zone and a luna are only seperated by 1 speed, every other number is identical, but i could throw my zone on a roller angle and it would fight back to the left. Meanwhile a luna thrown flat will drift right before it comes back
I've got a 2021 Ledgestone Cryztal Metal Flake Meteor that seems beefy for a Meteor and flies dead straight or will hold right for about 2/3 of the flight depending on how I throw it. Also I would say the DX Skeeter is a 5?/5?/-3/0
I also agree that Mako3 is one of the straighest discs on the market. Unfortunately I own like 6 of them and they're pretty all over the place. They're all "pretty straight" but as always with Innova there's a huge variation between runs and plastics. One of the three star Mako3s I have is super straight, so I got to that, but will switch to a flippier one in a tailwind or champion into a headwind to get super straight flights out to about 375ft with my armspeed.
I have been using a meteor. My typical shot is about 200-250 feet and I find it to be really stable with a very slight fade. I was able to ace a 201feet shot with it. I would love to see it thrown by someone who knowss how to through it.
I did love throwing a Mako3, but my straightest mid-range has to be my Tursas. I keep forgetting it has a -2 turn because I never see that in its flight.
Agreed. I only throw my Mako 200 to 250 ft when I need it. At those distances it goes super straight. When I go full tilt on it, I get a fair amount of high speed turn. If I needed to go further, I'd go to a fairway driver and if I needed the understability, I'd go with the MVP Vertex.
2yr player near 60yrs old so my armspeed is not high. The Champion Mako3 flies dead straight but now that I've had it a while its starting to fade a little but its very predictable. 250 or so is my average with more under than over that.
@@entrepreneurlife649 Exactly the same as me. However I just lost my star mako into a lake today and wondering if I should get another Mako3 or try something different.
Idk why anyone would trust someone else's throwing abilities to shape the way they purchase disc's. Sure the flight numbers get you close but we've all had the experience of the flight numbers making no sense according to how we throw them. Internet distance is a real thing unless they throw somewhere that's easily measurable
Innova skeeter is the new innova Rollo maybe?.?.? The 20 year Buzzz, Truth & glow hex are my straightest mid I throw. I threw a Champ Mako for a while but it would turn easier then the newer straight mids.
The problem with Fission plastic is that MVP has changed the formulation 3 times, but has never changed the flight numbers. V1 is soft and squishy and least overstable. V2 is very stiff, and produces meathooks.. (I have same model, same weight, same color V1 and V2 Fission Photons and they feel and fly completely differently). V3 plastic is supposedly somewhere between V1 and V2, but still generally pretty overstable.
I'd love to see a video on which of these straightest mid ranges can handle the most OAT from a forehand, IE fly the least stable for a forehand and be the most usable! Or maybe non of them and this would be a dumb video hah. Most understable mid I forehand right now is a c line MD3.
Had a similar but different experience with the Mako3. Two max weight mako's, 1 in champ, 1 in star, the champ one is far too flippy, and the star one is the straightest disc known to man. The torque resistance comment seems spot on though and maybe it's just a finicky mold?
I'm new to Disc Golf and don't have great form or power, I have a 168g Mako3 that has been perfect for me. Very straight flyer at my current skill level.

I recently picked up the DiscMania Evolution Origin. That’s one of the straightest discs I own. My brother keeps telling me to get the Mako 3 though!
Mako 3 even in star should fly a touch more overstable than Origin FWIW
Thanks for the input @@calvindelamere3489
When I was beginner, dx Wombat3 was the straightest glidiest disc. Laser-straight line (like for your Claymore test). After I lost it, bought a champion Wombat3, and it was more like a - 3 0! Rumor has it that Innova remade the mold. So I'm guessing that, along with the Skeeter, there are some models simply intended for those just starting out and in their very first weeks.
What disc does Caleb bag for his straight midrange?
So glad you included the Buzzz SS. I have a few of the Ledgestone Cryztal runs and they super straight.
I lost my favorite Tim Barham Buzzz SS that was absolutely stupid straight.
Mids fill a purple in my bag too 😂
Great video.
I like this series :)
The Cosmic Piwakawaka is defenetly straighter then the atomic / glow.
I actually have the cosmic piwakawaka on order @ 179, should be Monday. I'll come back and give a review...
Agree, was just about to suggest the Piwakawaka - great disc for straight midrange & tunnel shots, glides well, and capable of pretty decent length if you don't overcook it.
I would have liked to see you guys test the prodigy m2, m3, and m4. They are se really great and straight discs. You can do a lot with them.
The discontinued MVP Tangent is still my straightest mid range. Just got a Watt now this one is STRAIGHT. Love it!
I have an Eclipse Wave, and I'd say it's closer to 0/2 than -2/2.
Been using it for a year and it's still reliable overstable.
was that a max weight fission hex? max weight fission can be more OS.
The other Finish Line plastic Forged Supra was a roller out of the box for me and my max distance is barely 400’.
Great video as usual!
Interesting, I appreciate the scientific approach here. Going to take my new buzz and eclipse hex out for a spin to test it myself
What's up with the towel on the tee box?
If you make a part 3, you should use the innova vcobra. It's a 5|5|-1|2 and it's incredibly straight, although it's not too readily available with it being mostly out of production/it only gets limited runs on the pro shop
Comet! The best disc ever. It's just a long throwing putter. Love it
Jester Discs makes a midrange called Peace Train, that is humbly raising its hand to be considered for future disc comparisons or reviews.
You guys need to try the glow mana from TSA. It’s my favorite straight mid. Yes it can be understable when I need that too. But on a good hyzer it flips up and goes dead straight.
Great video, how about the L64 Fuse and Kastaplast Svea ❓
Skeeter looks to be a -3 0. I've been a Buzzz fan for a long while as not a big fan of beads so avoided Rocs. I did throw in a few Roc3's in a F2 order recently tho and also have both a Hex and an ESP Buzzz SS to try out. I have a Z one somewhere and never liked the feel of it unfortunately. Hoping to get out and test new discs soon
Mako3 is my favorite mid but a good throw can put a discraft comet in the mix too
My md3 is my straightest flying mid next to my MVP Reactor.
Flight numbers don't matter when there is flashing. Could you please try this series after removing the flashing?
my 'Lizottle' glow eclipse Hex is pretty beefy. Does anyone know if this is a different run, cuz the one in the video is pretty darn straight
Mine started beef, it's my go to straight mid now
@@thrildmedia8798 thanks for the info
Mine is straight, slight turn with a light fade at 275’-300’.
Its the most over stable of the 3 that I have (also fission and prism proton).
Mine was dynamic disc warrant but they stop making it so I found thought space mana fills in for my straight mid
I love my comets. It's the only disc I've ever thrown on a dead rope from start to finish.
Would be great to know the weight of the discs thrown
Awesome video btw :)
To my surprise, my straight workhorse mid is a ProFlex MMUS (needs to be purple lol).
Bought it replace my M4’s, but wow. It replaced the Overstable workhorse slot 😅
(Don’t waste time on the MMS’s though… super flippy 😢 flight numbers suck haha)
Being a former handler (Ultimate), the Mako3 (champion plastic) is what I use when I want to throw 350ft in a straight line.
“Mids fill a purple” 2:57. Yes. Purple flies further too.
i was hoping to see that k1 hard stig in action. great disc! dont have a fav straight mid range but the glow musitang is what i bag. if thrown hard it does straighten out but probably isnt straight, the LSS is pretty strong
Got a glow piwakawaka in a mystery box that ive been using for forehand shot replacements and the second i heard it mentioned i laughed so hard
What disc can help me throw the disc to the right? I’m throwing right handed backhanded
I did love throwing a Mako3, but my straightest mid-range has to be my Tursas. I keep forgetting it has a -2 turn because I never see that in its flight.
Gotta go with my Apollo from Alfa discs in their Crystal plastic.
Yeah, Mako3 is probably straighter for lower arm speeds, myself included. I'd consider it a really straight mid for me
I have a mako 3, buzzz ss, and a claymore. mako 3 is my straightest but I use all three for different shots when I play.
V3 plastic is supposedly somewhere between V1 and V2, but still generally pretty overstable.
why dosent he throw it flat?
I'd love to see a video on which of these straightest mid ranges can handle the most OAT from a forehand, IE fly the least stable for a forehand and be the most usable! Or maybe non of them and this would be a dumb video hah. Most understable mid I forehand right now is a c line MD3.
Lovely review. I enjoy watching those plastic birds fly… 😊
Had a similar but different experience with the Mako3. Two max weight mako's, 1 in champ, 1 in star, the champ one is far too flippy, and the star one is the straightest disc known to man. The torque resistance comment seems spot on though and maybe it's just a finicky mold?
Could well be! It's interesting that your experience was the exact opposite! Plastic is funny sometimes!
I'm new to Disc Golf and don't have great form or power, I have a 168g Mako3 that has been perfect for me. Very straight flyer at my current skill level.
For my armspeed, in my most conditions, the Westside warship has been my most reliable straight stable
