I recently discovered the little boy in me. I ask him what he wants: chocolate, ice cream, adventure. I give him everything he wants as if I am father to myself.
Reading the comments. So much of this is the photography. When I bought my little house over 50 years ago it was a dumpy cold little place with a briquette hot water service and small tanks for water. By putting flowers in it, and paintings on the walls it became beautiful. Then I gardened. With no money I rescued plants from where an oval was being made, and lugged them home in a baby basket. What I am saying is, you can make any space really beautiful. And I have lived in many many humble places. Love your films. And love life. Being alive is challenging, but wonderful.

I love your content. but one thing always strikes me. everyone, really everyone in the videos has their own house and lives in the countryside with many animals. they lack nothing. The question I ask myself. How much influence does this lifestyle (living in nature etc.) have on happiness? How would people speak if they had to live in a crowded city with no animals and lots of space because they didn't have enough money to buy their own house in the country?
I agree with you so far as in most Evergreen videos people are shown in a handsome environment. To me that gives me peace. To see beauty is a therapeuticum for me. And sometimes, I get an inspiration to change or try something out in my own living space. 🙏🏽😍👍🍀❤️
Circumstances? Maybe there will be videos here in the future that interview people living in difficult circumstances. Like maybe a Lakota elder living on a reservation in North Dakota or a Mexican ranch hand raising a family in the borderlands of Texas, or a Syrian living in a refugee encampment? Maybe those already exist? I’ll look for them. Thank you 💜
I used to wonder, that living in a big city, working continously and buying the things and going places will make me happy, it indeed made me happy for a certain amount of time... But shifting back to nature calmed me down, and made me realise how lovely it is to be around nature, but i have seen people who are close to nature, aren't that happy either, as they want the luxury of outside world.. So i guess, it's more about the mindset rather than about the place.. But being in nature definitely helps a lot...

Very insightful as usual but, as a 70 year old person, I find it very nice to enjoy the wisdom of being older, the peace and new pleasures that it can bring too. I like being older.
I agree. I am 59 years old and am so looking forward to my sixties. Every decade brings a new phase of discovery and personal growth. I feel like I am on a wonderful adventurous holiday and as the end approaches I will feel just as I did towards the end of long holidays in the past - grateful to have experienced it all while at the same time looking forward to returning home.
So we'll said! I am 62 and finding that these later years are to be embraced. Enjoying the company of my husband, who is 68, our children and their families, and not taking anything for granted ❤️
I lived my entire childhood and early young adult life in countryside in India. Away from latest technology, internet, and infinite number of TV channels. For weekend, we would walk up the hill and eat the food we cooked for the day in steel lunch boxes. We would sit under the trees and lie down in grass, and watch the sunset in the horizon over the river. Then life took over, I went to the city to study further, then got a job in another city far far away from home. Now living in UK, even further away from my home. I realized that I'd never be home as long as I'm working for a living. It's something that I need to survive and cope up with the rising cost of living. The technology and media influenced the meaning of happiness and comfort. Not a day goes by when I feel like giving up everything and move to a countryside again and have the slow living back. But practically, it's not possible right now. I'm too young to do that. Perhaps if I save enough, I might be able to do it at some point of time. Who knows. Definitely not thinking of living in the cycle of chaos and false sense of good life. Sorry, for the blurting. Your videos always evoke a sense of serenity and clarity. I'm often conflicted with similar emotions of wanting to move to the countryside to lead a slower life and away from my current life that centers around the demands of my job. Reality sets in though with the knowledge that I'm only mid-career and working towards a retirement, which I will need in my elderly years. It's a struggle and can cause dissatisfaction. To moderate those feelings, I go on weekend adventures when I can, carve out some time to work on a personal hobby and try to appreciate everything I have right now including relationships with my coworkers and neighbors. Perhaps in the future, there will be an opportunity to move towards a slower life, but for now, I'm trying to focus on what I can do to make my life more meaningful. Best wishes!
My beloved husband died recently and, though he was a very serious scholar, activist, labor leader, poet, teacher, and brave battler of cancer, he loved wearing silly sox and goofy t-shirts and signature caps-his inner child gleeful, lively, always at play. Of course I miss the loving husband, fascinating man, and complicated life companion he was-but I miss most the magical inner child of him, the one who made me laugh every day and embrace the joy in life through every sorrow and challenge. Wear silly sox! Play! Laugh! Life is so fleeting!

I keep watching these, day after day and I can feel myself climbing out of the sadness that has taken over everything, since my husband died. Indeed a good comment. I live in Singapore where we live in sparse nature. Its crowded but I guess I make my home a haven- a balcony with lots of plants, the sun rays shining on my balcony walls & spin wheels that dance along with the strong breeze. We have parks that are beautiful laden with coconut trees and little rose plants. It was not after a near death experience that I start to pay attention to everything around. Peace & joy is a choice from within. ❤ I go for walks each day, bask under the sun at sunrise & sunset, and enjoy the company of dogs & beautiful people in my life.Its a transformation - I no longer feel that I am better if I travel. I appreciate the beauty around me amidst the hustle & bustle of a modern life.Keep posting the lovely videos. It gives me ideas on how I can see beauty in the present including appreciating a simple home made coffee❤

I lost my husband 3 years ago. In the beginning I felt lost, overwhelmed with life itself. As time went by I started to get back every little bit of myself that I had left. And from that it was like tiny seeds left for my growth and discovering that they germinate . Now I’m like a willow, strong, beautiful and bends with the winds of life. Does having everything in life mean you are happy and fulfilled? Living on a farm, in a township, in a flat, on the street, does any of this define you? Who are you? Oh my God, this moment made me cry: @2:48. It is true that when your one and only dies you, need to become another person including becoming them in someway, and everything in your system wants to abandon your health your mental health your physical health, but the only way to save their memory is to become them in someway and to be healthy to do so. It has been 11 years I’ve lost my mother, my best friend, not one hour goes by without my thinking of her, finding a way to do like her, but I struggled for so long abusing myself mentally. Now I try to pick up the pieces.

My family lost my older brother to a hear condition, my parents passed away, and now I am alone, left with all the losses of my life. There was nothing to console me until I read a spiritual devotional one day. I said everything is temporal and nothing remains the same, the environment our grandmothers lived in looks nothing like it did only fifty years later. I hear what you are saying. I live on the edge of suburbia on an acre that backs onto forest only 35mins from a capital city, with similar surroundings to these videos, with forest and nature, many native birds and animals and pets, with my family. It costs no more than a house in the city, probably less. I feel like I have a blessed life even though we have the same relationship, career and financial challenges that everyone does. I'm not sure if I chose this place or if it chose me. It's not everyone's cup of tea, we are all different. Some love the hustle and bustle of City life. I lived in Tokyo for two years and thoroughly enjoyed that lifestyle. But, I feel truly happy close to nature and for me it brings a great sense of spirit and connectedness, whilst agreeing with the Lady in the video that increasingly I have more questions than answers and understand that I don't know. Time to breathe and relax, appreciate and enjoy. Great video loved her philosophy.

Thank you for this lovely life story. Very few people have the inner child in tact as they progress through life. With age and trauma the inner child can be easily crushed. Keeping her alive is very hard as my own experiences have proved to me. But despite the lows in life the aim is always to be true to myself . I'm now watching my seriously father recover from a liver transplant. The experience has humbled me further. How this lady must have picked herself up after her husbands death is amazing. A wonderful question. I have been watching Green Renaissance for some time now. There are some wonderful films of individuals living with homelessness, poverty and the such. Many of the films depict survival in one way or another. No matter the settings each film stirs an emotional response inside of me that I am so very grateful for. Oh, God. To see this video today. It broke my heart but opened my mind. I lost my husband, today. 3 September 1997. 25 years of pain and loss and regret. Actually, it was just what I needed. I was only 36 and my Richard was 42. He was murdered and I have not coped with his loss. Even worse, my family cannot understand my pain and I have lost them too. Tomorrow I start year 26 of no Richard. Please, someone, tell me what to do. I just cannot live like this anymore.

I thank you for this series, I love to watch, I am concerned each video shows people who are financially well off and have secured their own properties so come from a place of privilege that allows such time for reflection and philosophy. Alas not all of us have such time . As elders , some have to work etc. This channel is an ideal fantasy . I guess this is why we watch just sad it's not real.
We all have 24 hours a day. It only takes a minute to appreciate the sky or take a deep breath and close our eyes and feel satisfied with the here and now moment.
"What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare..." Please take moments to admire the beauty of Nature wherever you are and be thankful, whatever our circumstances there is joy to be found in gratitude for what we have, living simply and giving a listening ear or whatever to others. There are many GR videos that show materially/financially poor people who are immensely rich emotionally/spiritually.
What if I never had a childhood...I was trusted to so many responsibilities at a young age... never had fun... never had true friends... never knew what life was like to be playful and carefree😢😔😔😔😢

In regards to her comment about knowing less as we grow older, my theory is this: for most of us, once we are past the confusion of childhood and enter adulthood, we begin to clad ourselves in certainties. This should be done in a certain way and that should be done in another way; it helps us negotiate the chaos and confusion of life, it is what builds up our sense of self. Butt as we go through life, we have a chance to see that their are many ways to do something, many beliefs, many opinions other than our own. When we enter the latter stages of life, we have two main options: the first is to hold on our beliefs and opinions with a grip of iron; the second is to realize how little we've ever known. The first option results in us becoming encased in a rigid and restricting shell. Option two, if used carefully, leaves us free to experience the beauty and wonder of life. We need that solid core, carefully constructed, to keep us centered, but surrounding that, there should be a certain curiosity, an openness to the world. I grew up surrounded by rigid, dogmatic people in the community, and as they aged, they became more rigid, hence miserable. To be open is scary, but it is surprising how often our rigidity, mean to protect us, winds up imprisoning us.
Beautifully articulated, and again, leaving us with much to mull over. Totally agree with you, that allowing ourselves to be flexible in our views, open to change, curious to explore and learn more - how beautiful to recognise that we'll never know it all, and that there is always so much more to learn, moving through life with an open heart, welcoming and embracing change. Recently my 90 year old dad fell, is currently in the hospital & his very active lifestyle suddenly came to a halt. I'm learning much about what you said, to be humble enough to know I don't necessarily know what is best for him, to open to the beauty of giving him the dignity & respect to find his own way, and to let myself live in the questions instead of trying to force answers. Listening to your words I am already breathing more slowly, willing to believe this can all be easier than I'm making it & that all will unfold & make sense in it's own time.

Reading the comments. So much of this is the photography. When I bought my little house over 50 years ago it was a dumpy cold little place with a briquette hot water service and small tanks for water. By putting flowers in it, and paintings on the walls it became beautiful. Then I gardened. With no money I rescued plants from where an oval was being made, and lugged them home in a baby basket.
What I am saying is, you can make any space really beautiful. And I have lived in many many humble places. Love your films. And love life. Being alive is challenging, but wonderful.

I love your content. but one thing always strikes me. everyone, really everyone in the videos has their own house and lives in the countryside with many animals. they lack nothing. The question I ask myself. How much influence does this lifestyle (living in nature etc.) have on happiness? How would people speak if they had to live in a crowded city with no animals and lots of space because they didn't have enough money to buy their own house in the country?
My guess is that these people will be happy in whichever circumstances they find themselves. What makes them happy comes from within.

I agree with you so far as in most Evergreen videos people are shown in a handsome environment. To me that gives me peace. To see beauty is a therapeuticum for me. And sometimes, I get an inspiration to change or try something out in my own living space. 🙏🏽😍👍🍀❤️
Circumstances? Maybe there will be videos here in the future that interview people living in difficult circumstances. Like maybe a Lakota elder living on a reservation in North Dakota or a Mexican ranch hand raising a family in the borderlands of Texas, or a Syrian living in a refugee encampment?

I used to wonder, that living in a big city, working continously and buying the things and going places will make me happy, it indeed made me happy for a certain amount of time... But shifting back to nature calmed me down, and made me realise how lovely it is to be around nature, but i have seen people who are close to nature, aren't that happy either, as they want the luxury of outside world..
So i guess, it's more about the mindset rather than about the place..
But being in nature definitely helps a lot...

I agree. I am 59 years old and am so looking forward to my sixties. Every decade brings a new phase of discovery and personal growth. I feel like I am on a wonderful adventurous holiday and as the end approaches I will feel just as I did towards the end of long holidays in the past - grateful to have experienced it all while at the same time looking forward to returning home.
So we'll said! I am 62 and finding that these later years are to be embraced. Enjoying the company of my husband, who is 68, our children and their families, and not taking anything for granted ❤️

I lived my entire childhood and early young adult life in countryside in India. Away from latest technology, internet, and infinite number of TV channels. For weekend, we would walk up the hill and eat the food we cooked for the day in steel lunch boxes. We would sit under the trees and lie down in grass, and watch the sunset in the horizon over the river.
Then life took over, I went to the city to study further, then got a job in another city far far away from home. Now living in UK, even further away from my home.
I realized that I'd never be home as long as I'm working for a living. It's something that I need to survive and cope up with the rising cost of living. The technology and media influenced the meaning of happiness and comfort. Not a day goes by when I feel like giving up everything and move to a countryside again and have the slow living back. But practically, it's not possible right now. I'm too young to do that.
Perhaps if I save enough, I might be able to do it at some point of time. Who knows. Definitely not thinking of living in the cycle of chaos and false sense of good life.

I'm often conflicted with similar emotions of wanting to move to the countryside to lead a slower life and away from my current life that centers around the demands of my job. Reality sets in though with the knowledge that I'm only mid-career and working towards a retirement, which I will need in my elderly years. It's a struggle and can cause dissatisfaction. To moderate those feelings, I go on weekend adventures when I can, carve out some time to work on a personal hobby and try to appreciate everything I have right now including relationships with my coworkers and neighbors. Perhaps in the future, there will be an opportunity to move towards a slower life, but for now, I'm trying to focus on what I can do to make my life more meaningful. Best wishes!

Of course I miss the loving husband, fascinating man, and complicated life companion he was-but I miss most the magical inner child of him, the one who made me laugh every day and embrace the joy in life through every sorrow and challenge. Wear silly sox! Play! Laugh! Life is so fleeting!

Indeed a good comment. I live in Singapore where we live in sparse nature. Its crowded but I guess I make my home a haven- a balcony with lots of plants, the sun rays shining on my balcony walls & spin wheels that dance along with the strong breeze. We have parks that are beautiful laden with coconut trees and little rose plants. It was not after a near death experience that I start to pay attention to everything around. Peace & joy is a choice from within. ❤ I go for walks each day, bask under the sun at sunrise & sunset, and enjoy the company of dogs & beautiful people in my life.Its a transformation - I no longer feel that I am better if I travel. I appreciate the beauty around me amidst the hustle & bustle of a modern life.Keep posting the lovely videos. It gives me ideas on how I can see beauty in the present including appreciating a simple home made coffee❤

I lost my husband 3 years ago. In the beginning I felt lost, overwhelmed with life itself. As time went by I started to get back every little bit of myself that I had left. Oh my God, this moment made me cry: @2:48. It is true that when your one and only dies you, need to become another person including becoming them in someway, and everything in your system wants to abandon your health your mental health your physical health, but the only way to save their memory is to become them in someway and to be healthy to do so. It has been 11 years I’ve lost my mother, my best friend, not one hour goes by without my thinking of her, finding a way to do like her, but I struggled for so long abusing myself mentally. Now I try to pick up the pieces.

My family lost my older brother to a hear condition, my parents passed away, and now I am alone, left with all the losses of my life. There was nothing to console me until I read a spiritual devotional one day. I said everything is temporal and nothing remains the same, the environment our grandmothers lived in looks nothing like it did only fifty years later. I hear what you are saying. I live on the edge of suburbia on an acre that backs onto forest only 35mins from a capital city, with similar surroundings to these videos, with forest and nature, many native birds and animals and pets, with my family. It costs no more than a house in the city, probably less. I feel like I have a blessed life even though we have the same relationship, career and financial challenges that everyone does. I'm not sure if I chose this place or if it chose me. It's not everyone's cup of tea, we are all different. Some love the hustle and bustle of City life. I lived in Tokyo for two years and thoroughly enjoyed that lifestyle. But, I feel truly happy close to nature and for me it brings a great sense of spirit and connectedness, whilst agreeing with the Lady in the video that increasingly I have more questions than answers and understand that I don't know. Time to breathe and relax, appreciate and enjoy. Great video loved her philosophy.

Thank you for this lovely life story. Very few people have the inner child in tact as they progress through life. With age and trauma the inner child can be easily crushed. Keeping her alive is very hard as my own experiences have proved to me. But despite the lows in life the aim is always to be true to myself . I'm now watching my seriously father recover from a liver transplant. The experience has humbled me further. How this lady must have picked herself up after her husbands death is amazing. A wonderful question. I have been watching Green Renaissance for some time now. There are some wonderful films of individuals living with homelessness, poverty and the such. Many of the films depict survival in one way or another. No matter the settings each film stirs an emotional response inside of me that I am so very grateful for.

Oh, God. To see this video today. It broke my heart but opened my mind. I lost my husband, today. 3 September 1997. 25 years of pain and loss and regret. Actually, it was just what I needed. I was only 36 and my Richard was 42. He was murdered and I have not coped with his loss. Even worse, my family cannot understand my pain and I have lost them too. Tomorrow I start year 26 of no Richard. Please, someone, tell me what to do. I just cannot live like this anymore.

I thank you for this series, I love to watch, I am concerned each video shows people who are financially well off and have secured their own properties so come from a place of privilege that allows such time for reflection and philosophy. Alas not all of us have such time . As elders , some have to work etc. This channel is an ideal fantasy . I guess this is why we watch just sad it's not real.
We all have 24 hours a day. It only takes a minute to appreciate the sky or take a deep breath and close our eyes and feel satisfied with the here and now moment.
"What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare..." Please take moments to admire the beauty of Nature wherever you are and be thankful, whatever our circumstances there is joy to be found in gratitude for what we have, living simply and giving a listening ear or whatever to others. There are many GR videos that show materially/financially poor people who are immensely rich emotionally/spiritually.

In regards to her comment about knowing less as we grow older, my theory is this: for most of us, once we are past the confusion of childhood and enter adulthood, we begin to clad ourselves in certainties. This should be done in a certain way and that should be done in another way; it helps us negotiate the chaos and confusion of life, it is what builds up our sense of self. Butt as we go through life, we have a chance to see that their are many ways to do something, many beliefs, many opinions other than our own. When we enter the latter stages of life, we have two main options: the first is to hold on our beliefs and opinions with a grip of iron; the second is to realize how little we've ever known. The first option results in us becoming encased in a rigid and restricting shell. Option two, if used carefully, leaves us free to experience the beauty and wonder of life. We need that solid core, carefully constructed, to keep us centered, but surrounding that, there should be a certain curiosity, an openness to the world. I grew up surrounded by rigid, dogmatic people in the community, and as they aged, they became more rigid, hence miserable. To be open is scary, but it is surprising how often our rigidity, mean to protect us, winds up imprisoning us.
Beautifully articulated, and again, leaving us with much to mull over. Totally agree with you, that allowing ourselves to be flexible in our views, open to change, curious to explore and learn more - how beautiful to recognise that we'll never know it all, and that there is always so much more to learn, moving through life with an open heart, welcoming and embracing change. Recently my 90 year old dad fell, is currently in the hospital & his very active lifestyle suddenly came to a halt. I'm learning much about what you said, to be humble enough to know I don't necessarily know what is best for him, to open to the beauty of giving him the dignity & respect to find his own way, and to let myself live in the questions instead of trying to force answers. Listening to your words I am already breathing more slowly, willing to believe this can all be easier than I'm making it & that all will unfold & make sense in it's own time.
