    This is a real well done project and explained clearly. I appreciate your sharing the video. Just tonight I was messing with a pair of aluminum crutches trying to figure out something I could build with them. Your camera arm project is exactly what I intend to do with them. I think I can take the built in push button height adjustment section on one of the crutches and use it as the pipe holding the camera mount. That will allow me to easily raise or lower the camera height. Unless I am wrong, once you strap your device to the tree, there is no way to raise or lower the camera itself, although obviously the camera can be tilted. I think I can use the other crutch adjustment section as the part that mounts to the tree. That would allow me to easily be able to raise or lower the entire arm on the tree a few inches, which should come in handy if it is necessary to position the arm a little higher or lower than I might want due to a knot on the tree or some other reason.
    The aluminum crutches are extremely lightweight round aluminum tube so I think that should work more or less the same as your square tubing. I'm going to use wing nuts on each arm so that I can easily adjust the tension if needed. I'll put a video on my channel of my effort but if you have any hints or suggestions, I would really appreciate hearing them.
    Hope your trapping season has been good this year!

    Where did you get the bracket that attaches to the block of wood?

      This bracket actually came off one of those portable garages that was damaged. But I'm sure you could use pretty much any significantly strong "L" bracket.

    Not bad.i made one 2 years augo.im still using it til this day.i used a team realtree ez hanger as my first 2 arms.then cut 2 pieces of square tubing for the end pieces & did the same thing with the tripod swivel piece.but the ez hanger has the screw built in so i just screw mine into the tree wherever i want it.works great.and yes there crazy prices for a store camera arm.good huntin!

      I've been using it for the last 3 years and don't have a complaint about it really.

    With the price of store bought camera arms, this is a great idea for those wanting to self video their hunts. My son bought me a Gorilla camera arm for Christmas several years ago when we started self videoing. It is great but when I checked on the price of getting another one, for him, they are like $50 or $60 dollars. I did get him one, but this would be great to build your own to have one in multiple stands and know you don't have a lot of money wrapped up in one. Great DIY project and video! Thanks for sharing!! $50 to $60 isn't too bad, but some of the others are outrageous. I was able to self film my first recurve deer with this setup. Check out that video and see what you think.

    You also could have put another screw over the one at the bottom of the tripod head. Nice job.

      I had thought about that, but I thought it would be a bit too tight of a fit. If you are looking to possibly change out the tripod head in the future that is a much less permanent option than epoxy.

    What kind of bracket is that? The piece that you use to attach the 2x4

    Good Job. Hunters are a resourceful bunch. I've tried all kinds of things but I think I'm investing in a proper arm, after several lost kill shots I'm at that point. Have you used it yet ?

    • @NobleSavageOutdoors
      @NobleSavageOutdoors  5 років тому +1

      Thanks. Yes I have and it worked really well. I used it to get the footage for my video "First Recurve Deer Kill St 5 Yards." Check it out.
      I agree sometimes it is less of a headache to just purchase one, but on the other hand sometimes I cannot purchase a product with everything that I have in mind so I have to build it. This situation was a little of both the products with everything I wanted were just very expensive.

    Great video any clue what the brackets real name is?

    • @NobleSavageOutdoors
      @NobleSavageOutdoors  5 років тому

      I honestly have no idea. But any bracket that comes off at a 90 degree angle and gives you a flat place to bolt the arm to will work. You wouldn't necessarily have to use a 2X4 ripped down like I did for the post either, anything that will allow you to attach to the tree will work.

      It's a "Rigid Tie bracket". They will be at most big hardware stores.
