This van build series is going to be WAY more fun to watch than I expected 😂😅
You wait....
Don’t think this is could be considered a ‘how to’ convert a van series (maybe ‘how not to’) but it certainly is entertaining and for that thank you so much for sharing. Rick clearly has his work cut out trying to hold the camera steady when trying not to laugh. I think you have a new catch phrase Nigel, ‘what could possibly go wrong’. 😂
Can confirm it's not easy... just too funny 🤣
Ha
This is so watchable. It's really enjoyable watching a clever and talented bloke puzzle through quite scary new diy jobs!
Forget the van envy, I want the workshop 👍
Could you imagine how much fun could be had if Nigel, James Popsys and Mads Peter Iverson all got together to work on the van....Rick would be laughing so much trying to film them. You'll get there Nigel. I always enjoy your channel. Cheers !
I'd pay money to watch that!
Your confidence will grow as you get into the project. You are encountering new (to you) problems every time you start a new phase and effectively face a new learning curve with each one. Those who have already done this several times will forget what it was like for them the first time but your doing ok Nigel. You’ve certainly got all the kit you could wish for so it’s just a case of taking your time and double checking before you cut anything. Keep up the good work mate. Can’t wait to see the finished article and then hopefully we can get back to some photography which I know very little about and you excel at!
Bloody brilliant mate. 😆 🤣 so funny too... can't wait for the side window going in.. "what could possibly go wrong" 😮
Brilliant start, I'm now feeling (like many of us) normal. All the emotions and things that we all experience when doing any DIY.
Can't wait to watch the rest 😁😁
Absolutely loving this series. Instructions are overated, i see them more as a troubleshooting guide! Can't wait for the next episode 😀
Perfect start to a Sunday, poached eggs on toast and this on TV, cheers Nigel... tip on the silicone, have a wider nozzle opening and cut it on a 45 degree angle, so much easier to work with.
“No water is going to get in here” 🙈 don’t curse the van Nigel!!!!! Absolutely loving this series it’s Sunday gold! ❤
Loved it! I think Rick has the harder job of not laughing whilst filming! Was fascinating to see how all that went together
Oh my word...this is gonna be a FUN series! I'm glad you left the measurement mistake in the video, showing not everything is perfect...very much a mistake I (and many others) could easily make! You and Rick gave me several good laughs. I can wait for the next episode!
I'm loving this series. Even with all the mistakes, it seems like you're having so much fun! ❤
I'm loving this series so far. I love the fact that you're having all the doubts that "normal" people would have about cutting holes in things that cost several £10K's. I love your hesitation when attempting to do stuff you've never done before. I love the fact that you're showing all the normal things that go wrong - running out of stuff half way through!
I'm having a van converted.
Just not got the time to spare to do it myself. I'm intrigued to see how you're going to secure the van, in particular your camera gear. I'm currently trying to work out what's the best solution for this.
This has now become my "Must Watch of the week" 🤩
This is the new "Tool Time" series...this is going to be fun to watch.....
As a photographer and a fellow van builder I’m loving this video and this series is going to be great!
You’ve got this Nigel!
welcome to the world of van conversion, its stressful and stuff doesnt always go to plan, but the imperfections and adaptations will make each van unique. good luck Nigel its a lot of work but very rewarding
VERY familiar with Sikaflex from owning a boat for 30 years! It seems to simply jump from the work surface to you by magic (yes, its incredibly messy stuff but works a charm). Have fun Nigel!!!
Hilarious. You’ve made so many of us feel normal with our DIY skills. So many school boy errors. A calamity every minute. Can’t wait to the next episode 😂😂😂
wear nitrile or latex gloves when working with your adhesives and your cleanup solvents. Tape is a good idea too making cleanup easier.
I was not expecting the comedy. Priceless. Looking forward to the series.
At 5:42 I was thinking for the love of God don't draw around it, draw inside the square 😂 Remember measure twice, cut once 😂Fantastic video Nigel👍
Watching you make sense of all the ideas and working through which bit how, is like watching hubby do stuff around our house etc! Best "reality TV" really . . . . . accurately matches life. It'll be interesting to see it all come together and get to the way you want it all to be.
This reminds me of the time I was putting sunroofs in new cars .... stressy job :-) Love the video ! Kind regards, Guy.
Great start !!! Looking forward to the next episode Remember to wear your safety glasses everytime you cut or drill the metal.
Yep - got it. I have been good on that front
Absolutely loving this series. It’s great to see you outside of being a photographer. Fantastic, thank you for sharing
Love van build and photography. Our van is now completely finished...yay! been a long few months. All set up for travelling away, charging batteries and editing. I cringed the day a great big hole was cut in the roof and the window spaces but went really smoothly. Love watching this!!!
I do van conversions for a living, so I'm really enjoying this van build series you've started! So looking forward to future episodes and watching your progress.
Thanks - be kind! I am blown away by the complexity and interlinking of all the build elements… but so far going well. Just finishing off the windows
@@NigelDanson You always have to think several steps ahead so you don't trip yourself up down the line. But enjoying the build and turning the van into what you want is a really fun process.
Loving this series! So raw and human. Fun to watch! And definitely learning, too. Thank you!
I’ve so enjoyed this, as well as your last video. It’s fun watching you work on your van and wow, what a beautiful workshop you have. I live in Arizona in the US, which means hot, dry and the desert, so I love seeing all the greenery around your home. I look forward to the next installment of “The Van”.
Great build series. Keep in mind ... measure twice, cut once 😁
Really enjoying this series on the van conversion, cant wait to watch the rest of the journey
This is the best van build ever.😂 I was holding my breath while you were cutting that hole. Look forward to the next one. 😊
What a fun video to watch! I like how you've changed your catch phrase from "It doesn't get better than this!" to 'What could possibly go wrong?" for the van build video.
Nigel, Sunday night just got elevated to a whole new level !!!! This is going to be a longgggggggg process!! Loving it man
Brilliant. The art of prevarication summed up perfectly 😂 Such an enjoyable video Nigel. Entertaining and so honest
Love this new series Nigel!
This is so funny Nigel, I didn't think that cutting holes in a van roof could generate so much fun and laughter. Stay safe I'm looking forwards to you next video. 😂
You just wait!
Best show on UA-cam! Cannot wait for the next episode
So glad you've found a new 'project'. This is exactly what you need 😊
What could possibly go wrong? You had me in suspense, waiting for a catastrophic miss . Great video, we're all routing for you and a terrific outcome. GO NIGEL GO!!!
Oh, you are so funny Nigel. Cutting the wood reminded me of my husband. He thinks he does the perfect measurement, but it turns out wrong. An entertaining video. Looking forward to the next one. Lucky you have Rick there to help. Keep having fun you two! :)
Really enjoying these :)
Great stuff, glad to see someone is as nervous as me at cutting things!
Fantastic to watch and it'll be great to see how the van conversion progresses, scary stuff cutting into the panels, but first cut of a fair few done.
Brilliant episode 😂 this is shaping up to be great series. Great that you are showing us the nerve racking bits that I'm sure most of us can relate too then taking on something new.
An amazingly well fitted and equipped workshop there, Nigel.
Enjoying this and more please, warts and all! 😉👏👍
love this :D thanks Nigel
You had me on tenderhooks while you were cutting the hole in the van.
When you get iron filings on the roof or swarf as we called it in the bodyshop and have hoovered up what you can and everything is sealed check the roof after a couple of days after it has rained to see if you have little rusty bits which will be some iron filings that you have missed.
You need to remove them as eventually they will go through the paint and check a few times every few days until you are satisfied that there are no more.
I hope this tip helps you.
Look forward to the next one.
This is so chaotic, I love it. You're doing great!!
I thought "Do I really want to see someone fit out a camper van?". Having watched two of them, the answer is a resounding "yes"". Great fun and I'm glad the stupid things I do measuring up are not unique to me.
I know for sure I will have much fun while watching this series 😊
Entertainment at its best . . . Can't wait to see the finished van.
As a builder and weekend photographer I did find this really entertaining. At one point, that old phrase " all the gear....." did come to mind but you managed to get it done in the end. Having converted my own van, I know how much you'll learn as you progress. All part of the fun.
Ha ha - my dad is a joiner and he watched it and said - well you made a meal of that didn't you...
Wow, nice workshop! With that the conversion should be a breeze!
Almost retired software developer here who has no issue with deploying an AWS Kubernetes cluster Oracle database EC2 instance blah blah blah ... just a normal day at work. Cutting a bloody hole in the roof of my brand new to me van had me crippled with anxiety and second guessing myself for weeks. 😂😂
Cheers for filming yourself ... if it were me the amount of vulgarities would far surpass any kind of useful dialog. My neighbors see me go outside to work on my van and they bring small children inside for shelter!! 🤬
evening Nigel
Been a fan of the channel since I started my photography journey back in 219 and your work is inspiring. being pretty local to the peak district myself you are one of my go-to's for locations and inspiration.
I'm a commercial van builder myself and have also converted my own, if you need any help at all give me a shout, I would be more than happy to help. cutting holes is always duating the first time but the more you do the easier it becomes.
Keep up the good work, looking forward to the rest of this series.
Latex exam gloves when using sealant, don't forget the hearing PPE while using power tools. You want to protect your ears as well as your eyes. ;)
What could possibly go wrong......🤣🤣🤣Great stuff and hugely entertaining, Nigel!
Love stuff like this.
Great project, Nigel. Next project to widen the gates?
This is going to be soo entertaining.....thank you so much Nigel 😂
13.36 wet myself laughing - brilliant stuff - looking forward to next episode - well done
Be tidy Nigel, be tidy! creased me 🤣 gonna enjoy watching this series 😁
Hmm Thomas Helton made this look so easy!
Loving this! How does the saying go? Measure twice, cut once🤣🤣🤣
"it doesn't get worse than this".
i was so uncomfortable, so many times, watching this...im hooked.
next please!
very entertaining Nigel, looking forward to following your conversion, hopefully at the end it will be "doesn't get better that this" not "what could possibly go wrong" ! New Van name " Vansel Adams" ??
Looks like you'll have fun Nigel! Might be worth not parking the van behind the table saw when using it. If the saw jams it could shoot the timber into the rear door. Looking forward to the rest of the series!
Yeah - good point!
Haha, smiling throughout!
Excellent and very entertaining
Although not Photography i think I am going to enjoy the van build Nigel. As someone who last weekend added a flexi solar panel to my van with Sikoflex 522 your conclusion about tape around the edges is bob on. Just remove it before it goes off and you get a neat edge.
Beast of a bandsaw Nigel!!
Yeah - it is a life saver for many things
We absolutely need weekly updates from Rick, on how he thinks it's going!
No chance
@@NigelDanson 😂😂
Yes, that would be a perfect episode; "The Van; Behind the Scenes."
Noted 👀🤣
The first hole is the hardest! Had that feeling more than ten years ago.
Glad you're wearing goggles when drilling as those fillings go everywhere. You could stick a towel or bag there when doing the windows to save filings going everywhere.
Second episode dropped earlier than expected. Awesome, just watching it with my second sunday-mornig-coffee. I would be terrified to cut holes into the van roof. 🙂
We’re both riding struggle van tonight.
I appreciate you leaving the tough parts in. I’m struggling with some far easier from IKEA. Mine somehow didn’t come with pre drilled holes and getting this even has been lots of checking and sweating lol
Hahaha enjoyable viewing…..it’s a good job you make your living as an awesome photographer. I’m looking forward to seeing this to completion😂
Edge of the seat stuff! A braver man than I, cutting holes in a new van.
If the van building biz doesn't work then cake decorating could be the next step!! Only kidding - I know from personal experience it is fun trying to build a van!
Ha ha
You’re doing a grand job Nige, we all know you can do this ! be fearless ! 👏👍😀 PS I don’t think we’ve ever seen you laugh so much, laughing is good for you! 😀👍
Oh man, I thought I was bad for tool toys! You've shamed me! I really really wish Bosch would ship that drill press to the states. The nibbler: needs some downward pressure to control the nibbling better. Practice helps too. :^) I just started my own project - but no van, no nibbler but in the end I get to try fuming. Never done that so - dangerous chemicals. What could go wrong?!
I'm located just inside where the venn diagram intersect between photography, van life and wood working and I find your new project very interesting! Like watching Matt Estlea with a camera :)
Great motto, “Keep Tidy”.
10:04 watching Nigel have a full blown senior moment 😂
I had to laugh, you appear as such a competent man and yet your just as nervous of cutting as we all are. 😅 can't wait to see the windows going in. Good job Nigel 😊
Enjoyable video. When do you start a woodwork channel? Love you work place as much as your photography ;-) Good luck with that van transofrmation.
Watching this video I felt my fears coming back when I cut the first hole in my brand new van a couple of years ago... Like you I did everything to postpone it for as long as I could. I have two solar panels on the roof as well. A great plus about that is that they cover the van's roof. And they keep the sun from reaching the roof. Due to that, the interior gets less hot when the van is in the sun. Looking forward to the platform you are going to build.
Good point - hadn’t thought of that - I have a huge 540w one
Putting all that sealant on in the end made me scream 'WHY!' and I figured you would need to change canisters really quickly! Seriously though you don't need to put it on that thick. Some masking tape and those wooden ice sticks are perfect to create a nice even layer of sealant, it's what we often use for fuel tanks and panels in aviation.
It is lap sealant and think it is meant to be applied like that but I know nothing about
4:26, casual box toss. 🤣
Have faith in your self Luke the force is with you. You can do it 😅
This is hilarious!
😂 this reminds me of doing my first van am pleased to see u getting covered in sikaflex 😂😂😂😂😂
i have just redone my roof vent as the company i used made a complete mess of it and it leaked from day one now it’s water tight but i used Tiger seal this time 👌
I love me a good old build series
Haha, this is going to be entertaining. Certainly made me laugh, the realisation of so many things of cutting wood wrong to putting your foot in the sealant 😂 with DIY jobs is so true. Just glad you cut the roof size right!
Glad you enjoyed it
Today i learned that silicone guns come in powered/battery operated models, instead of ye olde squeezer. This is is exciting lol
The first cut in the metal is the hardest, The vent was a good place to start as it has some leeway.
