Actually that is a myth. Australia ordered 142 million doses of vaccine by October last year (30 million AstraZeneca, 51 million UQ, 61 million Novavax). It was just extremely bad luck that all 3 had issues (rare side reactions for AZ, 6 months delay of Novavax, and UQ had to be canned because it triggered false HIV positives).
Last year mRNA platforms were unproven vaccine technology compared to those other 3. It was just lucky that they worked - other countries have been lucky. Australia was not lucky. It came down to luck.
Not building any quarantine facilities is actually where the Federal government didn't do their job. That and not protecting aged care facilities in 2020.

@@pianowhizz exactly. Pfizer was not going to prioritise us either ways. That’s what they said to government officials. Hunt didn’t take the meeting but his team did. AstraZeneca was plagued over politicisation of its rare blood clotting side effect (safer than aspirin and significantly safer than birth control pills). People over at novavax had a production issue. UQ’s vaccine (although proving to be 99% successful) was found to give false positives for HIV/AIDS due to a portion of the virus being used as a clamp for covid (no risk of getting the disease because of the vaccine though). Government has ordered almost 3 times the population worth of vaccine and moderna’ s vaccine (25,000,000) can be added on top. And had this done last year. Labor just peddles this myth that the government didn’t order enough vaccines as people would believe it due to the lack of supply. Look at how labor twisted Pfizer’s word, the company said the vaccines were coming as quickly as possible. The company was prioritising countries hardest hit by covid and if we had done what labor was suggesting, we would have have 10 million doses at the moment.

Australia will charter three repatriation flights between May 15 and May 31, prioritising around 900 people deemed most vulnerable, Morrison said. The government estimates around 9,000 Australian citizens and permanent residents are in India.
Prospective travellers will need to return a negative COVID-19 test, and will be required to undertake the standard 14-day hotel quarantine imposed on incoming travellers.
Morrison said his government is unlikely to allow the resumption of direct commercial flights from India in the near term and has instead asked state authorities to accept additional repatriation flights.
The Australian leader, who has rejected suggestions the hardline approach will damage the country's bilateral relations with India, said he will speak with his counterpart Narendra Modi later on Friday.

Clear as day where the blame lies. We have Gladys Gold Standard who wanted to maintain her no lockdown record to thank for the mess we now find ourselves in. If she truly acted on medical advice, those giving it should have been sacked a long time ago, but I don't for a second believe she received advice not to take immediate action. All the medical advice from other parts of the world who experienced Delta was contrary to the lack of action Gladys took once the first case became apparent in Bondi on the 16th of June. That case was the result of not taking appropriate precautionary action by ensuring transport drivers for airline staff were vaccinated and masked, which should have been very apparent from a similar earlier problem back in December. Gladys sitting on her hands for more than 2 weeks was inexcusable and all subsequent cases and lockdowns around the country can be attributed to Gladys not doing anything. An immediate one week lockdown in the Eastern suburbs of Sydney would have been sufficient to stop the outbreak in its tracks at that time. No doubt the Teflon Premier will survive this crisis through lies as well, after all she survived sleeping with the corrupt Darrell McGuire by first hiding it and then lying about it, so this won't be any different.

They also forget to mention the fact that anti-lockdown protests also had an impact. Look back at the first one in NSW, they had a significant increase in cases from that time. Same with the second time around and same in Victoria. Population density and the sheer proportion of people not following rules even after lockdown have only made it worse. Gladys did not want to risk becoming unpopular by making the tough decisions that a premier so.etimes must make to stop things like this latest Delta strain spread. Had she locked Sydney down hard and fast, like Dan Andrews did Melbourne, right from the very first sign of Delta starting there, we would not be in this current situation. As a Victorian, like many others, I am so angry that after all we endured in Victoria with our hard ling brutal but necessary lockdowns that did their intended job, we and other states must suffer yet again. Simply because NSW was slack, weak and out of control. And failed to do what needed to be done ie hard lock down all of Sydney. Not just parts of it which infuriated some of the poorer areas there. When Fan Andrews locked down Melbourne very hard and fast and became pretty unpopular, he did not just lock down part of Melbourne. They all copped the ring of steel, the nightly curfews, the masks etc etc. And even regional Victoria with virtually no cases was also locked down, partly to stop the potentially fatal spread to rural locations with few medical facilities but also to appear fair to all Victorians alike. I am unimpressed with how NSW handled their latest outbreak and how this has affected Victoria when we were do ping so well, getting on top of Covid, at last. And I can understand why some premiers are so jealously and protectively guarding their people and wanting to keep potential virus spreading NSW and VIC people out of their states. WA is probably the state many Victorians would love to flee to, if they could. As far from the Covid infested east as possible....

It’s not even all the eastern states.
QLD, Tas, ACT haven’t lost the plot like NSW and Vic. That said, even Vic has been doing their darnedest, and poor ACT is literally surrounded by NSW.
We in QLD are doing the best we can, especially considering how many people are moving up here (or trying to at least) from NSW & Vic.
Sincerely, an eastern states born and bred* at risk citizen with more at risk family who is doing her best to learn from the successes and failures of my fellow eastern states citizens and leadership, supports her state’s leadership but is highly disappointed by the national leadership and leadership of the state who gambled with people’s lives and lost, thus risking the lives of the rest of the eastern seaboard and nation with it.

      @jessicadangerfield1539 3 роки тому

@Hit or Miss Prospecting I’m well aware Regional Vic is no longer in lockdown whilst Melbourne still is-it’s one of the reasons why I say Vic is doing their darnedest. I know many in Regional Vic aspire to come out of lockdowns early and thus put in the work to make that possible, which then means the contact tracers etc. can focus on the Melbourne situation better to get them out of lockdowns sooner.
Vic works hard to keep the numbers low when an outbreak occurs, and most of the time they get it together… this time, in Melbourne especially, they’re struggling to keep their grip on things, tensions are higher than I’ve seen so far (especially from the leaders who are trying their best to avoid NSW-esque deterioration), and the costs more severe.
The cracks are starting to show in Vic, and it seems like it takes more effort to contain each new outbreak, the grip faltering, and the resilience wearing worryingly thin due to accumulated fatigue-that’s what I mean by Vic losing the plot.
It’s different to what I mean when I say NSW has lost the plot, because they never seemed to care to respect the measures and efforts put in place by Vic to their south or QLD to their north, let alone attempt to emulate them, thus getting themselves into the situation they are in now where no one seems to be able to do anything to even curb the fallout of the virus ripping through the state and everyone seems to be left scratching their heads and shrugging their shoulders.

I don’t think America is in any position to be advising others how to deal with Covid after the absolute carnage Covid has wreaked over there and their poor handling of it. I have seen so many Americas write that it is impossible cant compare the two countries, a much bigger pupulation there, but honestly the country is full of science deniers, the ex president has a lot to answer for in his appalling response to it, and as the US is divided into 50 states each with their own regional govt, they should have managed it much better. A very informative story. I feel sad for the families of those lost to COVID-19 and can only think that as a society we could have done more. Time to take up the lessons learned. Be kind to each other and calmly debate the issues rather than creating divisions in our communities.

ABC are corporate lapdogs. What they're reporting is propaganda & lies, just like the medical mafia. There is no Delta variant. There is not test for it. And COVID cases are extremely exaggerated due to the high false positive results from the PCR tests, which were never meant to be a diagnostic test.

A quality premier would have stepped up, taking on board, instead of mocking and laughing at us, what and how we Victorians, who have done the hard yards and driven Covid into the ground, wouldn't have been in vain. Even Mark McGowan, the W.A premier tookbon board what we did and stomped it out, straight away. Sucks to be a premier of a state that karma came and bit in the bum. The premier who is the joke if Australia......

Victoria wrote the book on going hard and fast into lockdown. All the strictests regulations were introduced immediately. Lessons were learned at a terrible price. But it worked. Gladys refused to consider adopting any of them costing precious time.and endangering millions.
For Victoria our hard and fast lockdown hasnt beat Delta but it has kept our numbers far lower ensuring less risk of overwhelming spread and pressure on our hospital systems or deaths. So i would say thats not exactly a complete failure as was suggested in the program.
Disappointed ABC this is sadly lacking in a lot of real facts and too much bias from certain parties.

@@murdochrc-imback7680 ultimately the Government’s response to the Delta variant is to vaccinate as many people as possible and open everything up. It was not looking at what was happening in the rest of the world that caused Gladys etc. to be so apparently “surprised” by Delta. I think if you don’t look at overseas experiences, and that is clearly what happened here, we are in for a devastating two to three years. Good story telling should take this into account because we only have their experience of attempting to vaccinate their way to freedom to go by.
