Sorry, but I'm still really salty that they didn't go with a more historical dress for her big scene. They had a chance to show off some awesome rococo stuff but instead they went with a plain, modern looking one. Still excited for the movie but so far the costumes have not impressed :(
@@ruodanxu3344 no offense but that excuse still does not make any sense. not all rococo styles were large, ornate, and heavy. there are many period accurate examples of lighter dresses that the costume designers could have used. the style of dress called "chemise a la reine" comes from this time period, and that's one of the lightest/flowiest styles ever (simple dresses made out of light muslin). it's also one of the MOST famous styles from this era bc marie antoinette caused a big scandal by wearing it. so either they didn't do any research into the period at all or they came up with that excuse later.

Her dress is supposed to be like a bird because she has feathers in her hair and shoes, the gold lace on the front has feather patterns, and the necklace is supposed to be a branch or something. It could be a reference to the original story where a fairy or bird speaks to her in her dreams about the Prince.

again sorry but for me looks like a combination between a really bad cheap prom dress from the 80´s and a quinceañera yellow dress that's looks like a piñata.
If the dress on top had only had the sleeves off shoulder like the original, even that would have made me like it more. Don't get me wrong it is beautiful!! It just doesn't make the child in me feel like a princess lol.
My favorite work of Jaqueline Durran are the costumes for "Mr Turner", but specially i was completely astounded with his work in "Anna Karenina", which manage to give her first oscar winning victory. Im sure that in "Beauty and the beast" is going to be another mesmerizing and realistic creativity.
I heard Emma Watson flat out refused to wear a corset, or anything that might resemble one, in spite of the time period this is based on, because her version of Feminism is apparently SO much more important than Historical accuracy; so lot of of their ideas for a dress as grand as the 2015 Cinderella, or as iconic as the Animated Beauty and the Beast, had to be scrapped. IDK if this is true, but it could explain why this isn't as big a WOW factor as the fans were hoping for.
You’re right, Emma choosing to forgo the corset was a HUGE decision that had HUGE ramifications on the costume design. The film is based in the rococo era (background actors’ costumes confirm this). The weight of those huge dresses was evenly distributed among the corset and various under layers (bum roll, petticoat, etc) so there’s no way they could’ve put her in one of those dresses without the proper foundational undergarments. The costume designer is a great one and based on her past work, she completely understands the importance of proper underpinnings. I can’t imagine how many beautiful (probably more historically accurate) sketches she had to throw away because Emma decided she didn’t wanna wear a corset. I’m so tired of the unfairly bad rep corsets get. Horseback riding with absolutely no underpinnings? Give me a break! It’s not even a feminist thing to go without corsets - everybody likes some good boob and back support, nothing to do with oppression.
I don't get why people are so critical about Belle's dress. It's not that bad! It's not that big of a deal. Am I the only one who is looking forward to storytelling of the movie over the dress? lol
Stefi Diaz Belle is a lot more of an action character. For example, she rides horses a lot. I love her dress, it's simplicity replicates Belles personality well.
Because it's just awful. Doesn't look like Belles dress at all. It's just these frilly layers and such a thin material. I hated it. I'm sure that its not going to ruin the movie though.
She made a fuss over not wanting to wear a corset, when in actuality, corsets didn’t even exist during the time period the movie is meant to take place in. She should have been wearing stays. And the most ridiculous part is that if they had actually given her a historically accurate dress with wide pocket hoops or a pannier (as was appropriate for royals at the time), the stays wouldn’t have even had to be tight laced to give her the appearance of a small waist. As a feminist, her “feminism” excuse was complete b.s
i love this movie. Is the best movie of the history beuty and the beast is the best movie because is about the love and about what the fisic not is important.
I think it's beautiful but not nearly as elaborate as the Cinderella dress. I feel, like for such an iconic movie, there should have been "wow" factor. I obviously can't design one, but these costume designers sure as hell can. The costume designer here obviously is capable. The period costumes in the beginning ball scene are more elaborate than the main dress.
I don’t know what some people are talking about here in the comment section. I think the dress is the most beautiful dress that I’ve ever seen. Of course in real life it looks a litte bit plain, but if you look at it in the movie, the colour is a little bit different and its just gorgeous. That film took soo much work and many many people to make, so i wouldn’t say „they could have made the dress better“, „the dress does not fit the time period“, because i cant imagine how long it must have taken them to design the perfect dress. It took them about two years to make the movie i guess, so think about what you’re saying before writing comments like that. The dress is beautiful and i think i don’t want to argue about that with someone.
Emma is the only one who sounds like she actually believes that dress to be as beautiful as they say it is, the others are just trying to do damage control
I'm liking the ballgown the more I see it but I guess my main issue is that the top half seems lacking from afar. I wish they would've given her small puffy sleeves or made it off the shoulder like the animated one. Rouching the skirt would've been nice but I noticed how the front resembles a simpler polonaise-style dress just without the dramatic hips so I can let the lower portion of the gown pass.
the blue dress from Cinderella looked more like the yellow/golden dress from Belle than that one. I always imagined it like the Cinderella ball gown, just the other colour, especially the sleeves. I mean: Belle was the princess I wanted to as a young girl. I married in a bridal gown which looks more like the one from 1991 than that 😭
That looks nothing like what royalty or even just a lady in the upper-class during that time period would wear; it looks like the kind of dress a girl would wear to her senior prom.

Lauren Faerber oh, i heard her perfectly fine. and i understand why she would need it done for riding... but shes not riding a horse every single second of the day. So when shes walking around town and what not...she should let it down. im just being picky lol. since the movie is so far soooo perfect, this little petty complaint is all that i have. i feel Belle is very much a lady. Rebelious and adventurous yes... but a lady none the less.
No worries (: I understand; Was just trying to let you know that she mentioned it. Wasn't too sure if you knew it and what not. My bad if it seemed a bit argumental like. Twas not my intention c: But yea,I see what you're saying now!
I completely agree.
Well said
my fav Disney cartoon movie is beauty and the beast
If she wore that on historical accuracy. Theyll say: " why is she wearing an undergarments."
I love beauty and the beast
My Daddy took me to the set when they were filming at Shepperton Studios. I cannot wait to see this ❤️
KAITLYN'S COOL CLUB UK what a lucky girl!!!
Luz Puebla Lara - I am! But I was sad because Belle was not there on the day I went ☹️
More tears of joy
for all the haters saying the dress is ugly, PAUSE RIGHT BEFORE 1:32 AND TELL ME THAT THAT IS NOT THE MOST BEAUTIFUL THING YOU'VE SEEN. and honestly this dress is MUCH more detailed than the one in the Cinderella movie. the Cinderella dress is simply bigger than this one.
It's not nearly as beautiful as the dress in the animated movie. If they were trying to improve on it, then they failed in my opinion
I'm sorry I'm sure that is going be a really beautiful film, but that yellow dress sucks it looks so cheap.
In this clip some times it looks full and beautifull, sometimes looks cheap and flat and some times looks CGI, I dont get it.
again sorry but for me looks like a combination between a really bad cheap prom dress from the 80´s and a quinceañera yellow dress that's looks like a piñata.
i couldn't agree more

I just now made my beauty and the beast room tour. I love this movie so much and I love Emma Watson! Thank you for this video
The dress to the left at 1:17 looked way better in my opinion rather than the one used in the film
OMG OMG I'm dying for the movieeeee
that's a nice dress. but the beautiful blue balldress from Cinderella is No. 1!
If the dress on top had only had the sleeves off shoulder like the original, even that would have made me like it more. Don't get me wrong it is beautiful!! It just doesn't make the child in me feel like a princess lol.
Omg I used to dislike the dress because it wasn't puffy, but seeing it flow like that is a beauty in its own
i can't express how beautiful she is with just saying "beautiful".
finally now i know why her dress was tied up
My favorite work of Jaqueline Durran are the costumes for "Mr Turner", but specially i was completely astounded with his work in "Anna Karenina", which manage to give her first oscar winning victory. Im sure that in "Beauty and the beast" is going to be another mesmerizing and realistic creativity.
CAN'T WAIT ANYMORE!!!!!
The dress is so beautiful
Am I the only one who is looking forward to storytelling of the movie over the dress? lol
yes.. Im more excited for the actual movie rather than the dress itself
Stefi Diaz Belle is a lot more of an action character. For example, she rides horses a lot. I love her dress, it's simplicity replicates Belles personality well.
LOL YEAH. it really does.
Because it's just awful. Doesn't look like Belles dress at all. It's just these frilly layers and such a thin material. I hated it. I'm sure that its not going to ruin the movie though.
^hates a pretty strong word for a dress in a movie..lmao. I think it's beautiful and besides, Emma Watson in anything makes the outfit beautiful❤️
I love the yellow/golden dress, but I will miss the green one from the library..
The ballgown is pretty when it's in movement, but otherwise... very underwhelming.
i love this movie. Is the best movie of the history beuty and the beast is the best movie because is about the love and about what the fisic not is important.
In my opinion the dress is beautiful, elegant and simple. Why don't you people who expect a grand dress try designing one.
A lot of people think the dress should have been gold rather than yellow. That's how I interpreted it from the animated movie.
Ayva Loyher as the costume designer said in the video " belle's costume is based on the animation" where the heck she based that simple yellow dress?
I think it's beautiful but not nearly as elaborate as the Cinderella dress. I feel, like for such an iconic movie, there should have been "wow" factor. I obviously can't design one, but these costume designers sure as hell can. The costume designer here obviously is capable. The period costumes in the beginning ball scene are more elaborate than the main dress.
Ayva Loyher i agree... n i didnt really get why... they wanna compare this dress with cinderella's dress~ 😒😒
Now since I saw they have the gold leaf and crystals on the dress makes me like it
Yellow dress wow is perfect 👏
I don't think the yellow dress translated onto film. Of course its not ugly but... Now the Cinderella blue dress...wow! It was beautiful.
my favorite Disney cartoon is the little Marmaid ans the beautiest and the beast
I watched the movie today so awsome
Hermione and Belle, both played by Emma, are a lot alike... both brave, and smart
And lovable
not to mention they are both virgos lmaoo
I understand why everyone is upset about the dress but you cannot deny that it looks absolutely gorgeous on Emma
Sorry but it looks horrible :/
love this act
I can't wait to see it!!
beautiful! 🌹
So pretty!
After Cinderella's dress this one is big miss. I'm disappointed
Final Fantasy lol if cinderellas dress was a garbage then this dress is a piece of donkey shit
Final Fantasy yeah that was garbage lol with 270 layers fabric and 10000 Swarovski crystals on it. Give that garbage to me pls
She did it, she ruined belle with her feminism
Beauty and the Beast
the blue dress from Cinderella looked more like the yellow/golden dress from Belle than that one.
C'est trop beau. Emma est tellement belle dans cette robe!
