This video is the truth! The difference between merely a sun tan and a very productive day is paying attention. Noticing details then learning which ones mattered today and why. That way the next time it is different you learn why. And soon you’re able to “see” three steps ahead and understand your best, next move.
This is right on. The importance of intimately knowing your environment can't be overstated. You can't see what's missing if you don't know what should be there. Weather it 2023 or 1823.
Sorry man can’t watch the video cause of using up data, but finally you got a video with a comment section, I watched some of the older videos, I’m no Reenactor but I try living the old ways best I can by foraging for wild medicine and I gather spring water fresh from the mountains, I’m always doing something out in the hills, hiking, primitive camping or foraging, I like the videos man, I just don’t have internet most the time
Ok I watched it and i actually wasn’t off topic from my original comment lol, ya the only way to know the mind set is to go out in the field anytime of the year and any weather conditions that’s what I do, can’t be to comfortable gotta get use to being uncomfortable and “carry on”
Hello Deerskin! At about 6:35 in the video, you hit the nail on the head brother when you spoke about knowing their surroundings!! As a retired L.E.O myself, this is now referred to as SITUATIONAL AWARENESS!!! Those respected old timers HAD to have and develop Situational Awareness in order to survive during that era and time frame. It's practically no different today in that we all need to develop good Situational Awareness skills. However, I'm not even talking about being aware of your surrounding when in the woods or the wild (which you definitely should be while out in nature), but I'm referring more to the issue while just simply being out in public these days. Situational Awareness can save your life folks; trust me everyone, "I've been there and done that" so to speak. Take care and God Bless.
I think I've just watched your videos in a reverse order. I've quite enjoyed them. I do wonder about your long breeches. How common were they? I'm looking at them from an Upcountry French perspective. It's generally accepted that the French gave Indigenous population the shirt and that the Indigenous peoples gave the Upcountry French leggings and breech cloths
I am no expert on the French culture on the frontier but it is my general understanding that breechclouts and leggings were very common. My impression is generally more of British influence and trousers were very common among the working class.
They sure had it figured out. They were a part of their environment. It is interesting to me how hundreds of yrs. later many of their skills are taught to this day. They were better at it because they did it every day. When I was my moccasin around a campfire with my frock. I try to emulate how they navigated through the thick forest in similar dressed fashion.
Love the backdrop and the topic of this video man. Excellent work!

Perfect way to put it!

you take time and your videos show it. Great job.
Thank you for the kind words and recognition.
Awesome
Another outstanding video! As always, excellent food for thought. Makes me think a little deeper to find more context in all areas of skill building.
Amen...

Exactly! There are so many parallels that still apply in our daily lives-the clothes just don’t look as funny anymore!
Visual Tracking, a skill often overlooked
That topic will be a video coming up so I hope you stay tuned.

It really helps get a deeper connection when you do it that way!
