- After installing the brand-new Fuel Pump, the 2005 Jaguar S-Type comes back to life!
Everything seems perfect...until you try to DRIVE it...The Jag FALLS ON ITS FACE!!
Check Engine Light starts flashing and eventually it goes into LIMP MODE...not good!
Can we efficiently and ACCURATELY pinpoint the cause of the severe LOW POWER?
Yes, IF we use the right tool for the job...

Fixed a speaker in my camper this weekend. Loose wire. I shouted “no parts required”!!!!!!!!!!!! Hahahah. Love the SMA reference! Love both y’all! ❤❤❤❤
You did a great job with the Labor Day special. Lots of content to enjoy for many days. As much as I wish your job was easy, I know you love the journey and appreciate bringing back the old forgotten cars back to the road.
When he said valet parking, I started laughing 😂. Sorry, Pops that definitely is not the issue.
Shut your mouth young un
Every time I hear a clogged cat, I think of that line from Batman for some reason - "This town needs an enema!"
Pressure transducers were a must when I was a field service tech on industrial air compressors. You can guess and hypothesize all you want but a real time diag will always win every time all day long. I like the way your brain works Ivan . It's always 99.9% spot on
A plugged cat on a cat 🐈 😻...what are the odds.
maybe a cat crawled up into the exhaust
High probability.
As soon as you dogged it, I knew it had plugged exhaust. That sound is unmistakable. Even on video. ;)
I have Ivan's original version transducer. I don't use it enough to upgrade to the latest version but definitely the right tool when you need to measure pressure. Well worth the price. Nice diagnostic my friend.
Jump that coolant level plug to extinguish the idiot light. Being on or off will not will not do any good without the switch anyway. Might as well turn it off👍Good work keepin' these older wheels turnin'
There had to be something else, Ivan :-) Great to know the Jag is now in good working condition! Excellent diagnostic on the cat - scope and pressure transducer are an absolute must!
That growl coming from the intake was speaking to me. And what it said to me was too much exhaust back pressure. But when the owner started saying something or other about valet parking??? I'm thinking, you can believe that if you want. But I can assure you it's not that. Nice work Ivan. You just may just convince me to use a pressure transducer yet.
And about the 2 month wait. I can believe it. Even my shop is sometimes dealing with parts that are nearly unobtianium. Back order wait lists being 6 moths or more. Or pay astronomical prices to get stock that's been preordered for someone else.
When I was working on containerships, we had a pressuer transducer and portable computer for taking main engine pressure readings on the huge marine diesel engine. The Chief Engineer told me I could buy a new Corvette for the price of that transducer and computer setup. So $450 for your setup ain't bad at all! Cheers
Great video! Love how much you’ve have come since your first video. You have the most videos with no parts required!!!’nn🎉😊
My 2000 Jag had a valet key to restrict performance and access to secure areas like the trunk!
I just watched an 8-year-old PHAD video "Crank no-start: '88 Chevy truck 5.0 V8. " I see you were driving your Suzuki XL way back then.
@@kerrylewis2581 yeah I got it back in 2011 with 80k miles... Now at 220k still going strong 💪🙂
@@PineHollowAutoDiagnostics Good old Japanese engineering 👍
Total agreement with you on Pico 7
It's very clunky to use and custom probes is just not as straightforward as Pico 6 , and takes less space.
Sometimes change for the sake of change is not worth it.
why change something if it works? You see that a lot, I think a lot of times they are trying to "obsolete" things.
I did not get to this part of the video yet, but I didn't buy an 8 channel pico because of this. Why would you drastically change the pico software and give no option to use the old version?
They don't understand their market at all. We work on the "latest and greatest" crap all day. We want an old reliable scope.
Cool. Hard to beat a happy ending. It’s not yet feasible for me to invest in the pico/ transducer, maybe someday. Until then, I know where to send those that need these diagnostics. Got an older Highlander coming that might fit the bill if I have trouble. Always great stuff Ivan. 👍👍🇺🇸
Ivan, great job! Nice to know that Jag is back on the road again. Hope you sell lots of those transducers. I'm rooting for you. (Actually the PHAD socks are more in my price range.) Thanks for Sharing! 🙃🙂
That kitty wants to ROAR but its got a throat infection!
Actually it's CONSTIPATED 😂
Colon blockage
Pumping fuel in a car used to be so simple
Just thought i would add about the catalytic convertor. Quite a while back i watched a Diagnose Dan video where he was brought a car that had the engine light on and it had come in with a new cat installed. He found that the new cat was giving too much back pressure, therefore setting the Engine light on. Forget the make of car but he is in Europe, so it was one of "those". The OEM cat was really expensive, so he did find one that had the correct parameters to not set the light off.
Ivan has acquired a few “unique” fans of his channel today in the comments. 😂😂😂. Good repair and now on to making it drivable with a new exhaust etc. As always another one back in action thanks to Ivan.
They always show up early.
I don't think that Jaguar is supposed to sound like a giant angry bullfrog. 😂
Awesome videos as always
a jaguar needs a cat? isn't that redundant??? lol
I could never handle customers hovering over me while working. I wonder how they would like it when they were at their jobs. Props to Ivan for tolerating it!
I've had the same problem before screwing a regular old school compression tester in and out of a spark plug hole. The adapter is pretty small already and I didn't notice it had come off and stayed in the hole. I did the exact same thing, screwed a new plug down and I also thought, these threads feel a little rough. But I had to go buy another new plug at my own expense, but I never forgot that experience I always double check that now.
Good one Ivan! Pico to the rescue.
Good job iven it looks great now I bet the owner is delighted
I have your transducer and use pico7. Was able to get your pressure tables to work. Good value and no issues 👍
Valet parking! Sounds more like a potato in the tailpipe to me. XD
Jags of that era are Fords with delusions of grandeur. Even down to the reliability.
GLAD TO SEE YOU GET THIS CRAP CAR FIXED.
Some sometimes but correct ones
Great work as always.
Brilliant as always 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🇬🇧
Outstanding diagnostic!
well done.
Awesome job Ivan!
That Jag needs the same bumper sticker I had om my wife 77 Camaro W/305 engine. The sticker said "This car is so constipated it can't pass anything". Ivan has Eric O ever used the PHAD PRESSURE TRANSDUCER.
The cat needed a cat.
That vehicle really looks cool....
Well done Ivan 👍
Nice video Ivan.
Getting a shop slot booked, is about 4-6 weeks waiting time in The Netherlands these days.
Not sure how this is in the US.
Gotta see more old cousin gotta save more cars
Thanks Ivan!
Great case study, Ivan. I wonder if lean performance is characteristic of a clogged cat, or whether there is variance in that particular sign. The question of which bank is bad seems to come up fairly often.
Fuel trim imbalance under load was the giveaway 👍😉
No everybody has deep pockets to buy/install a new cat on a 2nd car.😂
I would personally change that low coolant sensor. Knowing the coolant level is very important and they're not expensive.
Great diag as always Ivan. Now come to think of it I had a 2010 Nissan titan come in to the dealership last year running like crap customer already requested a engine replacement and I didn’t think twice when I pulled the secondary bank 2 cat out and found it completely plugged from the primary just went ahead and replaced the cats and the engine ran and drove great at 310k after the replacement kinda makes me wonder if the engine was good all along but I didn’t dare turn 18hrs down during the slow months. I expect to be roasted for sure but with a baby on the way I needed every dollar
I could tell something was wrong the first time you revved it.. You can hear that hollow bog. Lets see what he finds. :)
11:12 you cannot create the custom probe on pico 7 but any probe was built in pico 6 can be alimported imported to 7
The way you doit is ,open a capture waveform from a incylinder for example after that you go to probes and save it. But had to be open on pico 7 the file you want to add
So basically Pico 7 sucks 😆
Hello Ivan
I love your UTube school. I am an 77 year old EE engineer. I was wondering if you could review what you saw on the cylinder pico ociloscope wave form how you know the exhaust is restricted. I am sure is must be high pressure on the exhaust stock. I am just trying to learn from you younger experts
Thank You
John
You had to ask more problems on EuroTrash ??? HA!!
Sounds like a plugged exhaust
Ivan, couldn't taking temp readings before and after the converter with a temp gun also tell if the cat was clogged?
You could hear the exhaust back pressure when you were loading it up. It sounded constipated.
I wouldn't feel bad about the spark plug either. I think you should be running something a little more high performance than an AutoLite anyway.
For Valet Parking ? That's what some "mechanic" excuse .
I wanted to see the Texas armadillo nest in the exhaust.
what about the low coolant sensor??? After all that work why not
PHAD got those Delco plugs in stock for your fancy pants rebuilt Ford
Yeah ROCKAUTO SAVES THE DAY...
Another Euro car made whole again.
Parts availability for Jaguars made before the acquisition by Ford were and are very dicey. Now the Jaguar/Ford parts are also hard to get. Also, Ivan, most of us viewers wouldn't use your transducer because we're not professional mechanics. If I were you, I would focus advertising on independent auto repair shops, people who would use it.
I specifically made the transducer affordable so anyone can buy it and use it! DIYer with a scope and transducer can do more accurate diagnostics than 99% of dealers and "professionals" 😉
Sadly a bad repair was just the beginning. Had a friend talking to me about her jeep yesterday. Everything has been done but fixing it.. UGH
Awesome vid,
Is custom probe setup different to custom scales?
Because I set up a transducer following the sellers equation on pico 7 no issues
What tool was instrumental in the repair of the left bank of the exhaust? Sawzall!!!
Clogged cat could let it go into limp mode. Since it has a catalyst code.
I did a Pontiac torrent it had the same set up
bloked cat (said that before i watched the rest of the clip :) )
👍
Beware delphi pumps some of them swell up cause the fuel sending unit to lock up , did that to me , and your gauge gets stuck
Can you use the map sensor to diagnose the plugged exhaust.
Jaguar needs a Cat! Lol maybe it was lonely, nobody the play with.
NOW I see why you always find bad plugs 😂
HAHA Keith!! Hey AutoLites are bad from the factory! xD
Payed for a new pump but handyman cheaped out by just use kit on the old pump.
- Where is that reducer good for? Didn’t catch that one clear.
I want to put one of these engines in my 1988 Merkur XR4ti.
when you get this thing sorted, could you unplug the from the ECU and see if the engine still runs properly?
Was it me or did I see a stem from a leaf pop up from the transfer pump
Ivan, have you used the air temp. pid uptrend to diagnose plugged exhaust?
I know what a Jag-u-ar is but not sure about a Jagwar... 😉😄
Isn't this a masked Ford? Bad plastic.. 😂
Rock Auto is the best.
What was the cause of that loud induction roar?
Maybe you got nesting in the pipe
what camera do you use to film these video's
did the spark plug you fitted have the same temperature range as oe
So the side with the restricted exhaust was showing adding fuel or pulling fuel on the fuel trims? I have a similar issue (05 Aviator) and I keep making it more complicated in my head than it is.
@@nickj610 watch the live data carefully.. Bank 2 is negative trims😉
@@PineHollowAutoDiagnostics d’oh, thank you! I’m a fool 🤣
If you can't move as much air, you have to take away fuel to keep the mixture ideal (stoichiometric).
When are you going to build a small shop ?
He can't. His property isn't zoned appropriately. Every 3 years or so he covers that in a video 🙂
Ford took that crappy UK car and made it worse! Techs Including me really dislike working on them. The Valet comment was the beginning of the end. Wallet closing!
give me my old 4423 and Pico6- the new Pico is ^&!%
Since when do you need all that shit in a fuel tank ....21st century
Sounds horrible. Performance looked abysmal.
Don’t give in to the Biden economy
Trump 2024!
watching your videos is much much better than NF bullsh*t, Ivan
What a moronic design!
$450 bucks for a transducer that one might drop and break??? I prefer to buy a back pressure gauge and spend less than 50 bucks...
It's rugged... Drop it all you want 😂
It's like watching Garrett and James and jh try to figure out how to adjust a card and do timming on older car you poor millennials really just don't know
Or just spend 50 bucks infrared cam all it takes period end of story sorry Ivan you have less than 30 bucks into you transducer and 3 hours time
You really have no clue about clapped out cars been sitting for years .I could have figured this car out in less than 20 minutes without anything but my hand ✋️
Waiting for your hand diagnostic videos
Well put a rose in your nose...
Kinda reminds me of those old pure genius Budweiser commercials. 😂
