SMH Celebrates COVID-19 Patient's Discharge from Hospital

- After 49 days battling & recovering from COVID-19, longtime pediatrician, Navy veteran & John Denver fan "Dr. Steve" Hefler was reunited with his wife & discharged from SMH Friday, May 15!!
#TeamSMH turned out to celebrate the major milestone, cheering as he walked out of the #smhRehab Pavilion & serenading him with his favorite song, “Take me Home, Country Roads.”
Dr. Steve was admitted to SMH on March 28. After 25 days fighting for his life in our COVID-19 critical care unit, he was transferred to a step-down respiratory care unit & then to SMH’s inpatient rehab unit, where he spent 2 weeks regaining strength & mobility before he was ready to finally go home.
