If a race swapped Ariel wasn't accepted in the live action Little Mermaid what made Disney think it would be any more accepted in a Little Mermaid cartoon? But race and gender swapping beloved characters don't work. Studios have tried it time and time again and it always gets rejected by audiences.
The difference is the demographics. The movie is for adult or kids at heart, they are trying to test it to children. I think. That’s the only conclusion I can think of.
I feel like it's their intention to control what is acceptable. Instead of listening to customers and then making decisions they are making decisions and expecting the customers to follow.
I don't even like actors getting swapped even if they're the same color. My brain still tells me it's a different person. It makes sense to me if a series gets rebooted and everyone gets reset, but I really don't like it when it happens during the same series.
They tried this because they know little kids are dumb and accept any old crap in most cases. Not THIS time, apparently.

I'm Asian and when I first saw Blade in the movie theater when I was a kid. I wanted to be him!!! 😂 It doesn't mean I wanted to be a Black dude. I just wanted to be a bad ass vampire who hunted bad vampires. His skin color wasn't even a factor! 🤷🏻♂️ We love/hate fictional characters because of their personal traits, their morals, their abilities, how a character carries and plays into a movie. There's no more creative authenticity in modern movies! Everything needs to based around gender and ethnicity nowadays before creativity and actual ENTERTAINMENT. 😑
You feel that way because you have empathy, you're equipped like most humans to relate to others based on their behaviour and shared humanity rather than their external qualities. Narcissists however lack empathy. They can only relate to others in terms of how much of their self they can see in the other person which is why there's such a HUGE push for "representation" and people that "look like me" from social media; social media is a realm entirely focused on the "me" and is highly appealing to narcissists.

The reason that popular characters of every color are sidelined is because elevating them doesn't take anything away from a perceived oppressors. If it were truly about elevating a diverse cast of characters, they have them in abundance already without swapping anything.
But that doesn't "stick it to The Man." That doesn't hurt anyone's feelings, or take something away from another group, or stir controversy and conflict. That is what this crap is really all about, and so putting Tiana up for her own show doesn't serve their true purpose, which doesn't have anything at all to do with diversity, equity, or inclusion anymore than the Patriot Act has anything to do with patriotism or the Stop Online Piracy Act has anything to do with stopping online piracy. It's a pleasant name given to a sinister tactic whose true purpose is to create conflict among people for the purposes of destabilizing society. Who would want to destabilize our society? It couldn't be trillionaire cryptocrat organizations like BlackRock working on behalf of communist foreign powers, could it? NAAAAHHH, that's crazy! It's about diversity!
All of that requires far too much thought and effort.

This is the danger of doing a race-swap or a gender-swap, especially if it’s a long-established character like Ariel who’s most popular with kids. You change them, and all that money their parents were throwing at toy companies evaporates because they no longer see that character they recognize. It’s not that they’re “rah-cist” as Pro says; it’s that you’ve annihilated the connection between kids and their faves just by making changes.
You want more racial representation and more girlies? Make new characters and write them well or bring back obscure characters who fit those boxes that need checked and write them well. Don’t destroy the audience’s relationships with preexisting characters for the sake of appeasing meaningless ESG-obsessed ideologues.

To make it worse, I think the sisters from the live action were heavily taken from the various Winx club transformations and once you see it you can't unsee it. Specifically Musa's Enchantrix and the villain Icy stood out when I first saw the image of the sisters.

Mermaids live at the bottom of the cold, dark ocean so it makes sense that they should have fair skin. The different races originated due to the climate people live in. Nordic people have fair skin and tend to be blonde because they live in a cold, mostly sunless area, Africans have dark hair & skin due to the hot tropical/desert regions they live in. There are all kinds of other racial variations depending on the areas where people live.

I was a doll UA-camr for years before the term “influencer” was what they would have called me. I have very little mermaid doll ever made and still and up to date but I don’t own live action merchandise
In several months time people will have the ability to be the proud owners of Rachel Zegler dolls! It will be splenderific. Btw I started watched a doll UA-camr who had videos from quite a bit back and would go to a thrift store called Savers was really cool anyway I recalled seeing toys for the Good Dinosaur of characters that are not in the movie. I found her videos fromn 2015, and yep, there they were. Toys on the shelves of characters that were eliminated from the final production.

I will always and keep calling her Gabriella. Gabriella was a deaf mermaid of color that was Ariel's friend who had an octopus for a companion, and they knew sign language! What better character to create a movie, or even a kid's show, to teach an even bigger diverse idea with folks with certain disabilities involved as well! Gabriella was created in honor of a young lady who requested this and put into the Ariel world.

This show caused my ten year old, who is entirely lost in her own world of play and childhood, to notice race swapping and be offended by it. That's how heavy handed and obvious and tacky this is. Even super oblivious children are noticing and despise it.

What makes "Bluey" & "Superkitties" successful is that they're not of Disney. They are owned by Lido Studio and Sony, respectively. If their deal with Disney goes south, they can move on to other channels and platforms. Although there have been various African legends of 🧜♀️, Disney's version won't sit well with audiences, especially Ursula, who we like better as a villain.
I honestly believe, if the owners of Bluey, decide to award the streaming rights to another service, say, Netflix for example, Disney plus will become dead weight on the books!
I could have predicted this when Iger shut down 2D animation in 2011-2013. They have no love or respect for their history. I love new IP like Wreck-it-Ralph, Moana, Frozen, etc, but their re-imaginings of the classics are ugly messes ("We have The Lion King at home" -Jon Favreau probably).
As a family who had gone to Disney for decades, they're history to us. It's Universal, SeaWorld, and our home park (Carowinds) for us. Though we will always love the way Disney World was and our memories there, we are 100% happy with our current theme park life. The ridiculously stupid race swapping is like making The Cosby Show family white. Stupid at the highest level. They're beyond saving. They have no one to blame but themselves.
To Woke Disney, race swapping characters such as Ariel and Snow White is not a big deal at all...

I watch Bluey with my daughter...there is no mention whatsoever of anyone's race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, religion, politics, or socio economic status in any episode on D+. Ive watched the entire show 3 times now, working on 4.

I’m a Filipina, living in the Philippines, born with black hair, dark brown eyes, BUT ever since the 90’s, Ariel has been my favorite princess/mermaid my whole life. Since 2010, I’ve maintained flame-red hair and occasionally wear blue contact lenses and often wear pink, green, purple clothes because even in my 30’s I STILL love and identify with Ariel. I was NEVER the same “race” as Ariel - but that never stopped me from identifying with her.
I also studied Culinary Arts around the same time that Tiana came out in cinemas. Her song “Almost There” IS my favorite/mantra.and I also identified with Tiana’s journey (emphasis on JOURNEY) not experience as a Black American, but as a chef-to-be. Did I feel represented even if these women were not SOUTH EAST ASIAN? Yes. Yes I did. The firey artist that wants to get out of her fishbowl life and the chef-to-be who worked hard for everything she had.
It's all engineered to anger. That's about all there is to it. I'm just glad there really is a large element of incompetence underlying the waste of all those resources.
I swear Disney can make a comeback if they give what the audience wants and stop doing this random DEI and woke nonsense. Masculine characters being masculine, female characters being female, nuclear families instead of forced gay or lesbian parents, race swapping, and anything else that I may have not said but is happening. They're making it that much easier for the likes of Elon to buy it and completely fix it probably overnight honestly.
Remember that one time Disney tried to make a new cartoon centered around a Mexican family, with an entire Hispanic cast of characters, steeped in Mexican culture but the horrible racists made sure that it was a flop through review bombing and online smear campaigns?! Oh wait, the opposite happened and Coco went on to be a MASSIVE success.

It does make you look back at the older stuff and wonder if all the garbage we're seeing now was being seeded all along. And in a lot of cases, it absolutely was. Sometimes if you end up hating what you once loved, it's because all the modern degeneracy is exposing the old stuff as being a forerunner thereof.

Black Baby Ariel is Disney's ploy to destroy the old image of the Little Mermaid. When today's younglings grow up, MOST of their contact with Ariel will be a black girl. Then there will be an uproar if anyone tries to portray her again as a White Ginger.
Disney execs even admitted when the live-action film came out that they wanted to replace the old movie because it was "retrograde." They've never hidden that getting rid of Classic Ariel is their endgame.

I took my neice to see the little mermaid live action when it was in cinemas and she was upset that her hair wasn't bright red 😂.
What I don't understand is that if you ask them why they chose a black actress their answer is something along the lines of "why does it matter what her skin color is?" If it doesn't matter if she is black wouldn't that hold true if she was white?

The crazy thing is that in my kids elementary school, all the little girls have the white Ariel mermaid than the 2022 movie version. Even little black girls had the white mermaid except for one little Latina girl. There's also tons of Bluey merch on these kids. Even my kids love Bluey and have t shirts.
What I don’t get is that they’re mainly swapping the race for the female characters, I rarely see them do that for male characters. If anyone else has noticed, let us know, because I definitely noticed that. That would be an interesting video to watch if this topic were dissected more.
I grew up with the 90's Little Mermaid TV cartoon and Gabriella (the deaf Latina mermaid shown at 0:46) was my FAVORITE side character as a little girl. She was a super unique character, especially or the time -- she spoke in actual ASL and her octopus pal would interpret for her. I would have paid good money for a Gabriella cartoon solely for the nostalgia alone, not to mention it would have been a joy to watch something like that with my nieces who love princesses. Such an unfortunate missed opportunity!
Disney took stories known world wide and used that story line to build quality entertainment.
They do not need to be updated. If you want to enhance sound and color great.
But leave them alone...if you do you will create revenue at margins that will make you blush.

It makes total sense that they do this when you consider how woke works. It's not just about increasing representation of minority groups; it's about knocking down powerful groups, which are seen as inherently oppressive and bad. So the race *swapping* is part of the purpose of it - for it to be really woke, it had to not just be a black mermaid, it has to be a black mermaid *at the expense of* a white mermaid. The replacement factor is a feature, not a bug. I'm just glad a lot of people aren't falling for it.
They should’ve just made another mermaid that was blak instead of erasing Ariel’s likeness and look. That way they both could’ve come together. But no, they don’t like that. All they had to do was just make a new blak mermaid. Keep her separate from Ariel. Giver her own life, and her own story. Giver, her own name. Then put them together, and come together in a movie or animated show. That would’ve been amazing. Two mermaid that become best friends. But they are talentless at Disney, they have garbage writers and they could never do something that unique and original. The reason why they swap is because they want to keep people divided. Make no mistake about it. This is all deliberate and it comes from very nefarious powers.

This all correlates to Disney’s relentless pursuit to sequel, prequel, remake, and live action everything to DESTRUCTION! 🙄 If you watched the D23 Fan Event Entertainment Panel almost everything shared was an already established IP. If my list is correct there were only TWO, yes TWO (Elios and Rise & Shine) original ideas presented in the panel of upcoming releases. [Side Note: I counted a total of 30 -> 2 of 30 is 6.66%! 😳 LMFAO!!!]

In the 80s, Jem was very popular and featured two white sisters and their friends who were black, Asian, and Hispanic. GI Joe was popular for boys and it had all kinds of ethnicities. Why was it so easy in the 80s and so tough for them to do this now?

Notice that race isnt a problem unless the hero is white. Like you said there are plenty of other beloved heroes in disney and elsewhere that everyone is choosing to ignore. Blade, storm, moana, falcon, pocahontas, the green latern was black i believe in the comics wasnt he. Point is there are plenty of heroes of all races out there. I believe this just racist people being racist against whites and nobody wants to call it like it is. Everybody forgets that racism goes in all directions and not just white people are the culprits all the time.
Its amazing to see. They have multiple versions that ends up dividing ONE BRAND into multiple brands. Instead of having a single widely popular character, that fan base gets divided up into mirid faction with characters that are neither as well received nor dearly loved.
