    Yeah, Marlin Parker is definitely one of the very best, and of course his father George, and the story behind how Marlin was named is Hawaiian fishing lore! He was so busy fishing charters in kona all the time, but he was envious of my being a commercial fisherman, and he loved talking to me about my fishing trips I would do very far away from kona in the "boonies", gone for several days before coming back home. Commercial fishermen are notorious for having sealed lips and never talking much, if at all! He just couldn't get away like that, w/ all his responsibilities, so I had no problem sharing my fishing and places I loved to explore, and big catches with him, because he just would have loved the freedom to do it, and none of the full time commercial guys really talked much with the charter boat captains. But I loved talking to him and trusted him to keep it between us!!! So much respect for him!! Miss the good old days when all the boats would come in to the Kailua pier every afternoon to weigh their fish etc., before Honokohau harbor and the fuel dock and weigh station there. The wealth of information and fishing techniques, from so many legendary Hawaiian captains over decades in kona, makes it a Marlin fishing mecca! It's absolutely world famous!!
    Thx for the cool videos!

    Chris! Love the channel brotha! I’ll be giving you a call when I’m in Kona for sure.
    I like the technique, usually for the second half of the fight I slowly increase the drag more and more, it kinda breaks their spirit and brings em up quicker. Tight lines brotha!

    Suggestion: dump the music during moments of dialog in the cockpit - love hearing the action!

    Peter Pakula recommends about 33% of the line class you are fishing on strike, what are the drawbacks of that you think? Also how much 130lb mono you have on the reel before you get to the Dacron and how often do you replace that mono in a year/season etc.

      I think that works for him so thats good, and look alot of people have tremendous success with heavy drag on the bite and there are sound theories behind that. the best thing to do is go out there and experment and see what works for you. Ive personally tired a bunch of diffrent ways of doing it and keep coming back to my way of light drag on the bite then pushing it up. my only thought about heavy drag on the bite is it can make for alot more bill hooked and wrapped fish that come off when they tunr their head during the fight, allowing a light drag and the fish to carry the momentum throught the bite and turn their head seems to be what works on a better hook up rate for me, however please keep in mind that is my opinion. good luck with it all out there and hope you catch them up !!!

    Do you like a certain spread or do you decide on the way out based on sea conditions like wind, chop, swell, clarity?

    • @waterman241
      @waterman241  Рік тому +1

      in kona our conditions stay fairly calm and the same if they do change I will change up my spread. in other spots where it can get rough you do have to adjust.

    How many on strike?

    • @waterman241
      @waterman241  Рік тому

      18 lbs and 15 lbs on the stinger

      Only been bill fishing twice. The second time out the drags were set light. I believe 15lb. A fish hit and the reel backlash. Then line broke.

    How can you fight a fish with your legs stinking straight out ? Peter B Wright would not approve.
