People are asking for the artists they grew up with, Brian Cadd was everywhere in the 1970’s, a real influence for many rock and blues/rock bands of the following era. He’s still around, so many of his peers are not - Jeff St John, Max Merrit, Doug Parkinson. Someone please request Doug doing ‘Dear Prudence’, and Max Merrit’s ‘Slipping Away’.

Now you're talking 😉 all such fantastic artists in their own right. We certainly lived through a great era of incredible songwriters and awesome timeless hit's. Some artists are still with us in 2022, sadly some not. However their presence past and present will live on for future generations to discover and enjoy. 👏❤😊

Fun Fact - Brian wrote John Farnham's 1972 single Don't You Know it's Magic! This is not the best version of this song - which is a shame. Brian's of our best singer/ songwriters since the 60s and one of our best voices. I've grown up hearing him since I was a little kid in the 70s and have always loved his distinctive voice! Great songs like Show Me The Way, Little Ray of Sunshine & Arkansas Grass (with Axiom), Woman You're Breakin' Me (with The Groop), Let Go, Don't You Know it's Magic, Silver City, Every Mother's Son, Keep on Rockin', Class of 74, etc, etc.

Brian was in The Groop, which had a great song ‘Woman You’re Breaking Me’ another classic ‘Such a Lovely Way’. He wrote ‘Arkansas Grass’, sang an absolute classic ‘A Little Ray of Sunshine’. Brian Cadd is a legend of Australian music, this song wasn’t the best start for you and he, but you picked up on this straight away. Listen to any of the above and you’ll love his work!

Brian Cadd goes way back to the '60s with Axiom with a major hit called A Little Ray Of Sunshine. Glenn Shorrock was also in that band.

Brian is quite old here and his voice isn’t nearly as good as it once was. I would recommend Brian singing A little Ray of Sunshine with Axiom or the Brian 1972 version of Ginger Man, you will love these two.

Gingerman definition - A divine and mystical creature of incredible rarity; appears in the form of a thin pale skinned man with glasses and fiery red ginger hair and beard. He is all powerful and the cause of all things mysterious.

I had not realized that they were pretending to smoke actual "grass". I'm guessing they were pretending and not actually smoking weed.

Brian cadd is an aussie legend has been in the entertainment industry since the early 60's. Bands include the groop and axiom.
Just saw him and aussie legend Glenn shorrok a few weeks ago..
    They didn't disappoint !!!
. Marcia Hines and brian, Doug Parkinson, max Merritt did to love somebody as a salute to Maurice gibb.
Every mothers son, a little ray of sunshine, my baby's gone, let go. Are just some of his hits
Brian wrote don't you know it's magic for John Farnham.
There's a 3 cd set for most of Brian's songs.

Brian Cadd, Axiom singing Arkansas Grass, Crowded House, Split Enz, Men at Work, The Angels, Little River Band, The Go Betweens, Skyhooks.
The Saints, The Easybeats, Air Supply, Max Merrit, Russell Morris, Tim Finn singing Through the Years.
All these have Aussie hits, with that Aussie sound. Each band above has a couple of songs that every body down here has turned the radio volume up while cruising down the highway.

As a 10 year old growing up in Sydney in 1970 I'll never forget when his other big hit with his band Axiom which featured lead vocalist Glen Shorrock (formerly of the Adelaide 60's band The Twilights who went on to be original lead singer for The Little River Band in '75) "A Little Ray of Sunshine" was released, such a gorgeous song, it remains an Australian pop classic and a personal favorite, here's the original black and white clip, Brian is on keyboards and singing backing vocals ua-cam.com/video/CL8mWlIxzqw/v-deo.html Cheers

To get a nice example on his voice look him up singing with Marcia Hines and other Aussie legends singing the Bee Gees classic "To Love Somebody". It was a tribute to Maurice Gibb after his death.
It will give you a nice display of each of their voices as they take turns singing. And then in perfect unison.

The song is abput home sickness. In the esrly seventies he was one of the short list to join LRB but he was headhunted by Hollywood to write music for the movies. He stayed there for 30 years. Possibly Australias finest songwriter and orchestratir

    What an observation,
Yes Brian Cadd is a great song writer wrote many hit songs
Yes if you heard the original, you might appreciate this more
Brian is getting on in years, and the quality of his voice ofcourse has thinned,
Not every singer can have vocals like Farnham in their later years 😀

Great understanding of one of our legendary artists, hugely respected across the ages. Other people in the comments have mentioned his other songs, so for your own learning, have a listen to them (Little Ray of Sunshine, Let Go are two of his big hits). Brian was so influential in Australia - he wrote one of John’s early hits ‘Don’t you know its magic’ and often worked with Glenn Shorrock who was the original LRB singer before John . Brian and Glenn were both in another legendary Australian rock band - Axiom. He was even the first person to sign up Tina Arena to a record label. So much history - and Brian can sure write a song.

  • @Edam-Channel
    @Edam-Channel 2 роки тому +1

My personal take on the song, with no evidence, is it is about someone who has lost touch with "home" and his family and the "she" he refers to is his mother or sister. The Vietnam War was going on at the time so the "war" referred to is likely 'nam.
I do not think Cadd ever said who Ginger Man was or when it is set. People have claimed the "war" is the American Civil War and GingerMan refers to a popular novel about a young American in Dublin both seem unlikely.
The US references in the song where controversial, but this was a point in time where Australians regarded their own artists as inferior to UK and American performers and artists were expected to perform for the local market and not have aspirations to appear on the global stage. Cadd himself said he was just writing music and if American names fitted the mood that is what he used.
This is definitely not the best version of this song. I recall Farnham once did a cover of it.
