Lord Shiva
The attendants (ganas) of Lord Shiva are always alert to protect him and obey his commands. Among his attendants, Bhairava is considered the most prominent. After him comes Nandi, and then Virabhadra. Wherever a Shiva temple is established, the idol of Bhairavaji is also installed as the guardian The chief attendants of Shiva are - Bhairava, Virabhadra, Manibhadra, Chandisa, Nandi, Shringi, Bhrigiriti, Shail, Gokarṇa, Ghantakarna, Jaya, and Vijaya. Additionally, the Pishachas (goblins), Daityas (demons), Nagas (serpents), and animals are also considered Shiva's attendants. These all wander throughout the earth and the universe, and look after the welfare of every human and soul.Virabhadra is the most obedient devotee of Lord Shiva. His form is terrifying. He appears like the fire of cosmic dissolution, with a thousand arms, and is dark-blue like the clouds. He has three burning eyes like the sun, and a fierce beard. His matted hair is like the lava of a volcano. Wearing a garland of human skulls, Virabhadra wields all kinds of weapons and arms. Though his form is frightening, being an embodiment of Shiva, he is supremely benevolent. Like Shiva, he is quick to be pleased.
Tantric practices, there is the Virabhadra Sarvesvari sadhana mantra. This is a self-empowered, miraculous mantra that delivers results instantly. Since it is a self-accomplished mantra, there is no need to perform any special initiation to activate it. काल को भी समाये हुए, काल का भी काल, तीनों लोक को एक ही क्षण में नाश करने वाले, देवताओं को भी मृत्यु देने वाले भगवान वीरभद्र हैं और प्रसन्न हुए तो मृत्यु से जीवनदान देने वाला वीरभद्! अत: वीरता के साथ भद्रता की अनिवार्और प्रत्येक मनुष्य, आत्मा आदि की खैर-खबर रखते हैं।वीरभद्र, भगवान शिव के परम आज्ञाकारी हैं। उनका रूप भयंकर है। गले में नरमुंड माला वाले वीरभद्र सभी अस्त्र-शस्त्र धारण करते हैं। उनका रूप भले ही भयंकर है। पर शिवस्वरूप होने के कारण वे परम कल्याणकारी हैं। शिवजी की तरह शीघ्र प्रसन्न होने वाले है। वीरभद्र उपासना तंत्र में वीरभद्र सर्वेश्वरी साधना मंत्र आता है। यह एक स्वयं सिद्ध चमत्कारिक तथा तत्काल फल देने वाला मंत्र है। स्वयंसिद्ध मंत्र ! अचानक कोई बाधा आ जाए,दुर्घटना का भय हो, कोई समस्या बार-बार प्रकट होकर कष्ट देती हो, कार्यों में बाधाएं आती हों, भय हो या कोई अज्ञात भय परेशान करता है।तो उससे तत्काल राहत मिलती है
