- The BEST CHOCOLATE CAKE RECIPE! Gooey Greek Sokolotopita - Moist Chocolate cake soaked in chocolate syrup!

For the Chocolate Syrup:
-200g Water (3/4 cup + 2 tbsp)
-200g Sugar (1 cup)
-2 tbsp Unsweetened Cocoa Powder
-1 tsp Vanilla extrat ( add at the end)
-1/4 tsp Salt
Chocolate Cake Recipe ( 9x13 inch baking dish ) :
- 160g All Purpose Flour( 1 cup + 2 tbsp)
- 100g Unsweetened Cocoa Powder ( 3/4 cup + 1 tbsp)
- 1 tsp Baking Soda
- 1/2 tsp Baking Powder
- 200g Sugar (1 cup)
- 120g Butter (1 stick)
- 1 tsp lemon juice OR vinegar ( to add to the wet ingredients)
- 2 large Eggs
- 250 g WARM Milk (1 cup)
- 1/4 tsp Pinch of Salt
Chocolate Frosting recipe:
- 100g Unsweetened Cocoa Powder (3/4 cup)
- 100g Powdered Sugar (3/4 cup)
- 200g Milk ( 3/4 cup + 1 tbsp)
- Pinch of Salt

Is there a reason you don't poke little holes all over the top of the cake before pouring the chocolate syrup? It's what people do for the Tres Leches cake & what Americans do for poke cakes. I wonder if poking it with holes first would make the cake fall apart or is it just Greek tradition to pour it over a cake without any holes poked in it.

I made this recipe yesterday. I used the cocoa you get from the store nothing fancy. It was delicious! The best chocolate cake I have ever made from scratch. Next time I'm going to use better cocoa. I know if it was that good with the grocery store cocoa, it will be even better with higher quality cocoa! If you do use grocery store cocoa, just make sure you have a new container of it. This recipe used almost a whole container of it. The chocolate syrup you make first was the key to it all. The frosting was so easy, too. Love it!!!

Here in Greece we made it every time it's so delicious!!!😆.There is also another version of sokolatopita without the syrup where you put in the batter ground hazelnuts and in the end you put on the chocolate cake chocolate ganache.

I made this cake. Somehow the cake never absorbed all the syrup. I made a comment but i suggest you poke holes with the fork and csrefully pour the syrup into the holes
@@foolishyish Thank you, that's a good tip! I think she said the cake needs to be very hot when we pour the syrup, I don't know if she meant straight-outta-the-oven hot, but maybe it's important. By the way how did your cake turn out, is this recipe delicious? I'm so curious to try this :D

This is so amazing!!! I wasn't sure about the recipe so I halfed it, but man is it delicious!!! It's so soft it disintegrates in your mouth and the icing balances everything out. Just.....DIVINE.

i just made this and it was amazing!! i wasn’t completely sure what kind of cocoa powder to use so i used half regular and half dutch processed in everything. the syrup and cake came out lovely but the icing was just a tad too bitter so i’ll just use all regular next time 😁 i highly recommend!!
