Awesome Stuff! What are your thoughts on the fingerings/ergonomics of the EWI vs. Aerophone for someone coming from Saxophon? Obviously the Keylayout of the Aerophone is matched to Saxes, but what about ergonomics including the palmkeys? Is it maybe worth learning the EWI System instead in the long run?

which one do you think you prefer? I actually liked the octave rollers on the old ewi I had, but I think the roland probably has better sounds maybe... idk which one to pick out of these two

The Roland of course sounds so much better than the older 5000 that this is not a fair comparison. The sound architecture and customizable controls of the AE series are a wonder to explore. It is SO simple to quickly manipulate on the fly, away from a computer, fully, and effectively. The Akai series was sort of okay in its heyday, but was completely supplanted by the AE-30 as king. The AE-20 also shares sounds, so this question only has one answer. The only positive thing the EWI5000 has over the AE-30/20 is the quiet keyboard. That's it. It can be played while duck hunting into headphones. The AE-30 duck hunter will not catch anything at all, except for the ire of their cohorts. In church or a band pit, that clacking cacophony of a keyboard is a pariah when rehearsing/testing complex lines or patches for an upcoming mix if there is no din to drown out the ridiculous clacking. However, the mouthpiece controls of the AE-30 are sweet and sublime. It is the best mouthpiece since the historically great WX7 mouthpiece, but without the teeter-toter tricky to maintain balance required to find the "sweet spot" for vibrato and envelope control. I have read that the clacking was mitigated in later models. Roland should recall the initial wave, purchased by us early adopters, since we helped them to get a foothold in the market. Meanwhile, we struggle to practice silently due to a keyboard that sounds broken and offensive, so different from the smooth, sultry, beauty that consistently wafts from the soundboard. LOL
You can have early models updated by Roland. It costs $80 outside of warranty, which feels a little slimy, but for me it was worth the price. Mine is much quieter and the action is improved.
I made fun of the first AEs I saw at a music store. Now, it’s my AE-30 is my favorite windsynth for all the reasons you mention above. I have owned a wx5, wx7, EWI 4000s, and EWI 5000. My AE-30 is by far the most gig friendly of the bunch. Great sounds that are programmable built right it. Love it.
