Yo! Thank you for reacting my video man! Honestly it feels really weird cause I was watching your reactions I believe before I started my channel or at least like while I was really early on lol so means a lot to see my video being one of your reactions!
I would agree, but i cant stop thinking that this is just because we watched these series when we were young. So basically we prefer this old style and have this "warm" feeling because of nostalgia. Maybe in 15 years the New gen gonna have the same Feelings for JJK or Demon Slayer Fights.
@@ChristianHoller-y9d Maybe, but I'm going to be honest I have barely watched any 90s animes as a kid but I just really prefer the aesthetics of the animes from the 90s or earlier compare to alot of the modern animes. Now obviously even in the modern times there are animes with really good asthetics like Black Lagoon or samurai champloo and mostly any Gibli movies in general, but alot of those I think try to capture the asthetics of the 90s which is why I think they look so beautiful This isn't just to say that animes only look beautiful when trying to look like they're from the 90s,like for example I love the vibe of the wano arc in one piece or alot of the animes done by Ufotable, movies like Your name also have some very nice visuals. In simple words I don't think it's just because of nostalgia now that obviously plays a major part but it's just that the 90s asthetics look very nice
@@blackcatpirates8134 I agree with you. I really love the 90s aesthetics and it's definitely not out of nostalgia. The colouring is more pleasant to my eyes, even if many people don't like it that much.. 🙃
90s and late 80s anime was just peak. Ghost in the shell 1995? Outlaw star? Trigun? Slayers? Card captor sakura? Just peak hand drawn goodness with an eye for quality
While I love how things like Your Name, Demon Slayer, etc. look, I can fully agree that I miss the style and charm of 90s anime like Trigun, Berserk, and Ghost in the Shell. It'd be interesting if a studio decided to start making anime back in the similar style and tone of the old 90s anime, while taking some of the modern advances as well.
correct, it was all hand drawn on cel sheets instead of digital which is why no modern anime can fully capture the raw emotion and grit that these clips barely capture from 90s media. the EVA movies are my go to example for how insanely fluid something like an explosion can be animated. it also heavily depends on the animator themselves and what skills they possess to bring that incredible sakuga to life@@nwaarmalek6242
Megalo Box captures the feel of 90s anime. Recommend it to any Vinland Saga fans for both season 1 and 2. Megalo Box Nomad went under the radar. Highly underrated.
As someone that grew up with this, literally (80's kid here, started watching anime in the early 90's), you cant really know what it was like to live with this aesthetic. It was all we had for sure, so there wasn't anything to really compare it to. We just knew we loved it. To pop in a VHS tape into a VHS player, using analogue AV-cables plugged into an analogue CRT TV screen, the glow of the phosphors are etched into my memories in ways the youth today just wont understand. Granted I have no idea what its like to be a young anime fan today, growing up with digital animation, and to look backwards at the time before. I mean even if I looked back at anime before my time, it wasn't anything different because it was still all cell animation photographed to film one frame at a time. Anime in the 90's hit the peak of what traditional analogue animation could achieve with those techniques, and we just never had it so good! Also my generation had the benefit of seeing the transition of anime from the analogue to digital. Those were some rough years for sure, but there were some amazing strides taken, I'd admit. Was 90's anime really BETTER than today's anime? Well, that is very subjective. The only real way to tell is to see some of the recent anime remakes that they've been doing, such as Rurouni Kenshin and Urusei Yatsura. When you have a 1:1 comparison, there's definitely a different feel to each aesthetic, so it comes down to preference. While I prefer the old 90's style, I do appreciate some re-makes because lets face it, anime back then despite their looks, they could really be a drag in terms of pacing. Thats one area that modern anime really improved upon. So if it opens the doors to new anime fans to see these older stories brought to them in a new visual style and concise telling, thats something to celebrate. IF done right, that is.
yooooo I love internet pitstop! I know it's HELLA long but his history of anime backgrounds video is GOATED. Definitely consider giving it a watch here and there if you want to absolutely splooge at old art for 4 hours
I think it's easier to understand if you compare Sailor Moon's transformation scene. I think the accuracy of the drawings in the 90's version is amazing even today. I've heard that he used the movements of figure skaters and dancers as reference when drawing. By the way, the transformation scenes of Uranus and Neptune were directed by Hideaki Anno, the director of Evangelion.
At 1:21 mark, I'm sure that's Tenshi no Tamago, with character designs from Yoshitaka Amano, character and enemy designer for the early Final Fantasy games. He also has a colaboration on a comic for Sandman. His art is gorgeous!
Name a fight with "Knives" in Trigun Stampede... because in the ole school Trigun he got only 1 fight as sick as it was... so I would love to see more of them given how badass he is as a character.
90s anime just looks more mature and natural to me. Peak of sakuga and animation. That's why ghibli will always be remembered and why when they tried to use AI it wasn't received well. Nowadays people just watch flashy graphics and effects and they'll say its the best animated shit ever lmao
I think you would love Wolf's Rain (2003). Amazing music, gorgeous art style, and fantastic dub if that's your thing. Same group as Escaflowne, and many of the Cowboy Bebop crew.
''Bastard!! Heavy metal dark fantasy'' has two seasons made last couple of years with the character design from the 80-90s manga and 90s OVAs. I liked it, but i don't know any other titles that did that.
One piece, Inuyasha, outlaw star, Trigun, FMA, Yu yu Hakusho, Cowboy bee bop, DBZ,Dragon ball, Akira, grave of the fireflies, Gundam wing, Deep blue, Ghost in the shell, Rurouni Kenshin, 009, Case Closed, Naruto, Bleach, Bobobobobobobo, Wolf's Rain, .hack// ALL GOOD STUFF
80-90's is where anime peaked style wise, not to say i dislike everything after because even nowadays there's styles i love, but they're usually the exception instead of the norm. Current anime fans and even the industry's perception is that everything needs to be super clean, hd, shiny, with a lot of effects to make it look cinematic and good like Demon slayer.
In the terms of aesthetic one of the most unique and beautiful anime is balladona of sadness, a movie from the 70s. Definitely one that everyone needs to check out at least once in their life
I beg of you to watch some of Studio Ghibli’s older movies, if not just a video about Studio Ghibli, they truly were and still are a pinnacle for 90s anime’s, my favorite being Princess Mononoke.
It’s not just anime but manga as well. It’s due to mangaka (most there’s still some like Murata and others drawing masterpieces) and anime studios essentially going all digital. Drawing digitally does change the aesthetic but is also less time consuming. This is extremely evident when it comes to backgrounds and detail both in anime and manga. To be fair there are those that have adapted such as the legend Araki (JoJo’s mangaka who has pioneered the aesthetic starting from the 80s violence and Fist of the North Star like characters to more fashion forward and model like character designs). In terms of the “generic” anime the older style is better although when new anime add more frames for more fluid movement it becomes fantastic as well just in a different way
The thing with anime too which wasn’t talked about here is music and while I enjoyed the Kenshin remake and is nearly identical to the source, that OST of o.g. Kenshin is one of the best ever and same with the opening and ending songs. That’s why I fear remakes. Like how the hell are you replicating a Yu Yu Hakusho, Naruto, Cowboy Bebop with those amazing OSTs and openings and endings? That’s part of the nostalgia too
Art moves in cycles and I'm confident that to some extent that a studio or two will bring back the more traditional art styles back. But hand animating shows are very hard to consistently produce and not have your artists burn out. It's a lot of work for potentially little to no payoff depending on how well it's recieved.

Don't disrespect my ps1 graphic cars in initial D, that show is amazeballs.
Fantastic Planet was a French made animation, I want whatever they were smoking
You gotta react to grceyard of the fireflies 😩
Gyutaro with that hashira from demon slayer would it be good in 90's style?
Video 56 of trying to get Nicholas to react to an amazing Japanese band, called Mucc. Truly underated .🙌
Nick, you need to react to old Hunter x Hunter. When Kurapika reveals his eyes,... or when that Phantom Troupe boss fights folks from Zoldyck family,... better still when Gon is fighting that ninja dude during the hunter's exam... Wow. It was like they went on the animation peak and went: "this isn't high enough, let's make the peak peaker".
INITAL D GOAT anime
Imagine seeing the fight scene in TYBW, Yhwach vs Oldman Yama in 90s aesthethic👌😙
Love how he said old school hip hop beats at the very beginning with a fucking safe sample playing in then back. That ain’t hip hop my brutha, that’s the best female artist of the last 50 years
Edit: literally if you guys haven’t listened to Sade go fucking fix that right now. She’s HER
Anime video with MF DOOM music I am in 🔥🔥
Love internet pitstop's content, awesome to see Nick reacting to him

I highly recommended watching Outlaw Star if you haven't seen it. TOP TIER Anime in my opinion.
Loved Record of Lodoss War
cool now for hajime no ippo day 6
Even up until the middle 2000s. Id say death note took that 90s look and improved on it
City Hunter would be a wise choice. Believe me and enjoy~!
