    This felt like a very calm and peaceful vlog. I want to share two thoughts. First one is that some ancients believed that the random people you meet can be deities in disguise. That's why we have "treat strangers kind" tales all over the world. And the other is - my brother travels a lot to experience exactly what you're talking about. He would often use only the words in the local language and no English, to see where that takes him 😊 Personally, I'm not that brave, but it's a nice concept, perfect for learning new words 😂

    About trees swaying a specific way before a storm, I was taught by an old roommate of mine that if the wind caused the backs of the leaves to show that means a storm is on its way! Loved your vlog as always!

    Kassel is a special city! It is generally less known to international tourists. It is surely worth a visit.

    The ending with you walking at the train station 🥹 You inspire me so much, and I appreciate the honesty here. Human connection is truly what makes the world go round, and I aspire for that and everything you talked about in my travels as well.

    Those museums are really cool! Makes me want to visit Kassel. Germans in large tourist cities can be pretty haughty and call you a foreigner behind your back. I can speak German but they refused to speak German to me because I probably had an accent. I live in Quebec and it's a similar thing. You get snarked at for speaking English in bigger cities, but in rural towns where hardly anyone speaks English, they're really proud to speak English to you and ask you where you've lived etc.

    If you would ever come to Belgium, we are used to adjusting to other people languages :) We are a country with 3 official languages: Dutch, French and German. But we also learn English in school. And there are many people from other countries living here, certainly in bigger cities. I enjoyed watching your vlog! I wish I could be as creative in my life as you. Enjoy your travels!

    OMG, welcome Olivia to Germany. I hope you didn’t get annoyed by some german person for not speaking german or looking alternative. As a german that dresses kinda dark, I definitely get looks and stuff, cuz some germans are quite conservative. Anyway, Enjoy your stay, in terms of fairy tells we have a lot to offer lol

      @leo_hdnrch Місяць тому

      Well I commented too early… I’m sorry that some german people are very annoying when it comes to our language. Germans somehow expect everyone coming to Germany to speak german, but never bother to learn languages themselves. It’s sadly a very common thing both in rural and urban communities. I hope you still enjoy(ed) your stay 🫶

    You should visit Lithuania, the country that was christianised the last in Europe. There's a really nice wildness feeling in the land, forests and lakes and I've felt a true connection to the Earth while there. It may not have beautiful mountains like Switzerland or Norway, but the lakes and the sand dunes on are coast are just stunning. I've stumbled upon some nice ethnic shops and just felt like being close to nature was a really natural sentiment there.

    I was just telling my kids about feeling the difference in the wind of an incoming storm and how charged and magical it is. Thanks for sharing your trip! Northern Germany is different than the south. I am from the north and my family is from really the north of Germany and yes, they are first not really welcoming or warm. But after a while you are in the group. But yes, sometimes it takes some time. I think that the people often don’t know how they react to other people and their reaction seems rude or disrespectful for other people. My father lives now in the south of Germany near Stuttgart and the people there are completely different. Please don’t feel shit about that. You’re such a lovely person. ✨🖤✨

    On my weekend visit to Hamburg 30 years ago I too found the people unwelcoming. A young American working behind a bar told me he'd learned that the older generation in the city, who at that time were adult and childhood survivors of the terrible firestorm created by allied bombers, would never forgive Britain and America for it. I imagine some of that attitude to English speakers might live on there.

    Did you know that the Germans made a beer from Henbane? Henbane is called Pilsner in German. Who knows, you might find some on your trip. There's a recipe in Stephen Harrod Buhners book: Sacred and Herbal Healing Beers. About the storm that came in - Henbane was believed to have something to do with thunder and lightning - Donner und Blitzen - 2 of Santa's reindeer. I've burned a Henbane leaf before and it sparks like the old children's 4th of July sparklers. If you've never seen one, it looks a bit like an incense stick but sends out little sparks when lit. Thanks for taking us along on your journey.

    I'm sure you weren’t an inconvenience to them, even if it felt that way. They were likely frustrated by not being able to respond as they wanted, and sometimes people hold tightly to perfectionism. Kassel isn’t a typical “must-see” tourist destination, so people there might come across as a bit reserved. You’ll likely encounter similar reactions in other Central European countries too, so please don’t take it personally.
    Some of my colleagues at work don’t speak English either. When they have an English-speaking customer, they often end up feeling more disappointed in themselves than anything else.

    • @TheWitchOfWonderlust
      @TheWitchOfWonderlust  Місяць тому +3

      The people in Kassel were some of the kindest on my trip! It was Hamburg I tended to have a little bit of some trouble. I assumed it was a European thing, as many other people from European countries have had the same energy for me. I know it's not personal, it still doesn't feel good.

    • @rampant.hare.illustrations
      @rampant.hare.illustrations Місяць тому

      @@TheWitchOfWonderlust At first, I wrote "Hamburg", then changed it-though, honestly, the location doesn’t matter too much. I live in Italy, where people are generally seen as friendly. But even here, there’s often a bit of a distant or reserved vibe, which isn’t unusual.
      Personally, for years, I felt like I was living in a bubble. When something unusual happened, I often avoided interacting, especially back when my English wasn’t great. I worried about making mistakes and embarrassing myself, so I’d pretend to be in a hurry, putting on a serious face.
      The first time I met a group of Americans, I was surprised at how warm and helpful they were. It really showed me the difference: here in Central-ish Europe, people tend to value privacy and can be a little less open with strangers. And then you’ll find assholes too. As they say, the entire world is a country.

    it wasn't until I was in my mid-twenties ( long ago early 1980s) when I found out the many of the Disney stories we reworks of the Brothers Grimm stories and in the original Brothers Grimm stories I dont think that anyone lived in the end of those stories ,unlike the Disney versions , kind of go with how the MCU and Star wars movies and TV shows now since being taken over by Disney , ok I went off topic there lol
    Life for me is seasons we are born in spring , teens summer, 30s-50s fall 50-60 late fall winters edge 60 on winter and depending on how you lived through your season of life if you have good roots but a slightly hard life you could live in winter for decades, but your body will slow degrade over time, then Death.
    My girlfriend from long ago was Canadian but born in Germany, and she seemed to always throw it in my face I can only speak about her and her older brother who also I felt that upturned nose thing I think it's just the feeling they gave off possibly many German people are like this not that they mean anything with it but it's the aura\ energy\vibe, they \ some can give off possibly culture ,again I am not meaning that negatively, for me being sensitive to energies can maybe overexaggerate what is being felt from people plus different culture. I am not explaining his very well, I don't think it is their intention for a person to feel that way.
    Energy is a funny thing it always trys to balance so if I am down something someone that I never expected would show up and randomly later my energy seem ok again I think that if a person is open it comes easier myself i can be open but mostly in person I am not , I wouild give an example of this happening since the fullmoon around there but my post is already huge.
