I had the same with my mercury 6hp couldn't get on plane. I installed a hydrofoil and a different pitch prop. Goes up on plane now in seconds. Great vid
Think it’s around 2005/ 2006 Very strong engine. The Honda’s are know for over engineering their outboards. You get a lot of motor for the price you pay. 👍👍👌
To be fair you do seem to be going along at a decent lick, at times it does look like you’re planing, or almost. Perhaps it takes a bit of time to settle on the plane with the 5hp. Personally I wouldn’t go for a hydrofoil on a low hp motor as it just seems pointless, but as i say that’s my own personal thought. I think the extra drag it would create would possibly make it worse? I would play around with different trim positions and see if you can move weight a bit further back? Worth a try. I have a cheap n cheerful tobin sports 3.3m and i have an old mariner 4hp 2stroke and with just mesnd a few bits on board it actually gets up on the plane no problem (clocked myself at 14kt too 😂). If I’m carrying lots of kit/passengers i have a 15hp. Good luck with it 👍
Cheers for the advise. I’ll give it a go when the weather warms up. I just acquired a 4hp 2 Mariner. Much lighter than the Honda so interested to see if that goes any better. May sell them both and get a 6hp haha. Roll on the spring/summer!
Yeah also worth a try. Like I say best to have a play around with trim settings and weight distribution til you find the sweet spot. And I’ve looked at the BW 300 spec- it will take up to a 10hp, so in the long term if you’re thinking of upgrading, it may be worth getting something nearer the top end if you intend on carrying lots of kit, or passengers then you will have spare power, if needed. Possibly an 8 or 9.9, something like that 😉
I bought this boat last summer. I’ve got a 4hp with a 6 carb. It gets up on plane no problem. Zippy with just one adult but with two it just struggles. I have a 9.9 Yamaha coming when I’m in Scotland next. Any thoughts of putting a 15hp on it? Know it’s rated for 10 but so many people have said put a 15 on. It’s not there boat though 😜
I have the same set up as a tender. Couldn't get it to plain I had a 4 hp 2 stroke thouatsu I tried and for some reason the boat took off like a cat , going into a bit of a chop as well. Definitely over 13 , not sure why the honda wouldn't do it .
I have a White shark 2.3 meter with a 9. 9 hp Evinrude two cyl twostroke. It does 14 knots on full throttle, and keeps plane down to around 10 on half throttle. Two adults in the boat. Might be faster just one person. If you want to keep weight down, buy a two stroke. It also yields much more power over the entire curve up to max rev where it meets the four stroke.
@@DossingAroundInBoatsthanks aye, that was on a glass lake, first thing in the morning, but my man, I'm curious about this foil. I always thought it was a gimmick, plus manufacturers don't add them and I don't fancy drill holes in the fins, hahaha. I suppose that's what UA-cam is for...lol
Will plane if you start slow, don't yank it to full throttle straight away, try getting there graduately. And make sure to trim the OB as low as possible to keep the nose down, these B-world sibs have a tendency to take off. A 3m boat with 5hp ob and one adult should plane on that flat sea, unless you weight something like 20 stones or more. Funny thing, when I was looking up boat fishing spots in our area your videos came up. Now I was looking up "honda 5hp ob" and there you are again 😅

I think I’m going to give that a go. Bit concerned though about adding weight to it though when lifting out of my van.
Nice video, I was your 700th subscriber so congrats on 700 subs!
Haha! Thanks mate, welcome to my budget unpolished UA-cam videos! 😅😅
Move a foot or so nearer the engine to reduce weight on the bow?
Hi , what is the manufactured year for this engine ? Is very strong

Install a jack plate get the motor higher out of the water cavitation plate should be on top of the water

Sounds epic man. Those 2 strokers are nice and light. I miss the smell and sound of a cheeky little 2t outboard!
I got 27kph out of mine, its the 1985 BF50 5hp on a 2.4 inflatable, running 95 octane.
Wow, that’s amazing! I’m going to do a few more tests soon. Trim positions, will try the 95 Octane and maybe foil just for a laugh!

Well done, i just got me the same outboard 😁 with a Saturn dinghy, just to do fishing around the lake..
Such a solid motor! It’s crazy economical too. Enjoy the fishing trips!
Quantos metros tem essa
embarcação?
Comprei um Mercury 5hp 2 tempos e to analisando o tamanho do bote inflável que devo comprar
Hi, the boat is 3meters. Hope that helps answer your question.
@@DossingAroundInBoats Valeu, obrigado.
Thanks
Johnson seahorse 5hp two stroke plains easy hovers around 14-15 mph on a 2.9 meter bark
Hydrofoil would definitely make a difference
What lenght have boat ?
3 metres..

You need a small propellers. 7.8.6
I think my 1 seems to plain better when the inflatable keel is flat.
That’s interesting to hear!
Hydrofoil will help get you on plane but you’ll lose a little off top speed
Hydrofoil will not plane it
Fluctuating wooo woo Wooo woo sound from motor
