One of the most under-rated Disney movies, IMO. Some years ago, I let my younger coussins borrow my dvd and they loved this movie so much. They were laughing and everything. I grew up with it and still love it. It's just a feel good movie. If something can still make kids laugh and make people feel this way after 40 years, then the Disney Studio did a great job!
A Robin Hood story set in the animal medieval Kingdom of England with a southern rooster whistling and singing country songs... I´ll take that any day over all the other versions
My favorite movie as a kid. I watched it so many times I could recite it. I still sob with sadness when I hear "Not in Nottingham" and laugh myself to tears on the "Seize the fat one!" scene.
Peter Ustinov (Prince John), Terry-Thomas (Sir Hiss) and Pat Buttram (Sheriff of Nottingham). My Favourite Disney film by far. Very Funny and full of great music by the legendary Roger Miller (who also narrates the story as Alan-a-Dale)
Roger Miller included "Whistle Stop" on his 1973 album, "Dear Folks, Sorry I Haven't Written Lately." In 2009 The Boomtang Boys created a sped-up sample of Miller's "Whistle Stop" for an internet video and subsequent single, "The Hampster Dance." In 2009 Los Lobos recorded "Oo-De-Lally" for their DisneySound album, "Los Lobos Goes Disney," and the song was also heard in the feature film Fantastic Mr. Fox. In 2012 The Coasts covered the Robin Hood songs in a Disneyland Records album. Most recently, Roger Miller's recording of "Oo-De-Lally" was heard in a 2015 television commercial featuring animal buddies.
Story meeting notes from 1969 note the story team's desire to have the film be musical, but with the admonition that the music have an "up-to-date" sound. As with all previous Disney animated features, the music serves to tell the story, move the action along, and convey the feelings of the characters. With the styling influenced by the western outlaw theme, the producers naturally turned to one of the most popular country-western composer/singers of the day, Roger Miller, whose hits included "King of the Road," and "Dang Me." His folksy composition for the opening sequence, "Oo-De-Lally," sets the musical tone for the film while introducing the characters and relationship of Robin Hood and Little John: "walkin' through the forest /Laughin' back and forth at what the other'ne has to say /Reminiscin', this-'n'-thattin' havin' such a good time 10o-de-lally, oo-de-lally, golly, what a day." It's a bouncy, lightly countrified approach that reminds listeners of the folk ballads that originally carried the tales of Robin Hood through the centuries. "Oo-de-lally" is a nonsense phrase akin to those that, like "Hey nonny nonny," abound in old English traditional songs. Miller, voicing the minstrel rooster Allan-a-Dale, recorded the demo tape of "Oo-De-Lally" on October 13, 1969. Other versions were recorded, including an even more western-style version, and Miller recorded it again in July, 1970. By October the producers chose to use Miller's demo recording in the final soundtrack. Authors of The Disney Song Encyclopedia Thomas S. Hischak and Mark A. Robinson call Miller's "Whistle Stop" a "contagious calliope-like number" in which he whistles and provides a "vocal imitation of medieval instruments, creating a period and yet contemporary sound" -just what the producers wanted. A "ragtime" version was also recorded.
Oh damn, @heidi faith, I read that backwards, (as in, "wow this movie ripped off hamster dance so bad,") and was about to get alllll triggered up on you! 😂

Thanks for uploading this as it brings back fun memories of watching this. I am having bad sores on my back where I have to constantly use cream or they will come back with a vengence and I am SICK AND TIRED of it! :( It's making me anxious and coupled with the new world order threatening to come on board to ruin our freedoms...................................:( Sorry for rambling but I am on edge.

Memories omg my childhood i want to cry
This orginated the Hamster Dance.
The movie that turned a generation of kids into furries (I'm not hating, this is one of my favorite Disney films)
+ToruKun1 There were a lot of shows that followed the same theme when I was growing up too.
ShinKyuubi And I guess Zootopia is gonna be the Millennial generation's Robin Hood, LMAO
+ToruKun1 I've never understood that mentality. Cartoons are just cartoons. Enjoy them.
+ToruKun1 can you clarify that
F2D What's there to clarify?
The song is nice. Maybe Disney should make a new part animated - part live action reboot based on Robin Hood.
It would be nice to see this remade in Zootopia's art style
completely CGI 3D animated... ew... we got enough of that already...
Queenofawesome25 Zootopia was CGI...
@@TheMightyGinkgo yeah, it would!
After all these years, I finally found out where the tune of The Hamster Dance came from.
oodelally

Totally! hahaha!
only thing that separates them is the HUGE gap in Sir Hisses teeth. as if we needed reminding of Terry-Thomas' famous feature!
