Kent , Joe's next project is a channel where he's taking parts out of a junkyard and creating a two-door coupe , if you're interested in checking it out
@@kentdixon5716 Kent; when the plans are together coming in the spring, will they be free of charge? If not free, what will be the cost of them? LOOKS REALLY GREAT!!! Do you know the finished weight of the body?
@@garyrunyan8054 Hey Gary, thanks for the comments! plans will be $69.95 each, I priced them based on some boat plans that I have purchased in the past, which cost more than that, with way less detail than mine, so I know there is good value there. The finished weight of The Backyard Coupe is 2200 lbs, about the same as a cobra kit car.
Did a miss the video where you created the wood pieces? I'm pretty sure I watched all your videos but didn't see the one where you made the wood pieces, just a video of you hanging them. I'm mostly interested in the plans for the metal frame as well. Love the model a look but finding a cab for a rat rod project is almost impossible at a reasonable price. Your videos make it seem so easy and working with wood is definitely easier than with sheet metal for someone like me with no sheet metal experience.
Hey, you guys dont miss much! your right, I just starting attaching the already assembled components, just wanted to give overall view of how car goes together. I could make a short video showing the lamination and routering of the profile pieces, its actually quite easy.
Hi Robert, plans are getting real close, and no not in Winnipeg, my wife bought me that hoodie I was wearing in the videos, if thats what you mean lol, Its my home town but left as a young boy in 1970, I currently live in Calgary. If you have any other questions feel free to shoot me an email kentdixon_692@msn.com
Hey Donald, total cost was about $10-11,000. That was using a brand new 290 hp crate engine, brand new front axle, radius rods, headers , steering box etc, a guy could save even more if you found some parts at swap meets, and craigs list .
Hey Craig, happy your interested, I guess the answer is yes, you could but , you would defeat the purpose of the car being designed and built the way it is. Its cheap, easy, requires no specialized skills, expensive tools, etc , like it would if building it out of sheet metal.
@@kentdixon5716 can someone with limited woodworking skills learn to build the wooden panels you made for this car... I do have mechanical skills though working on cars.
@@craigcaggiano431 Absolutely, its not hard to build at all, anyone with basic mechanical ability. Materials are cheap, I know some of the video of the car looks like advanced woodwork is involved but not so, just the way it was engineered. Just laminated plywood that has been routered to make a curved profile.
@@robertnieforth9312 Absolutely! every province up here in Canada, and every state in the US, have a special registration process for custom built cars, every state or province is a little different, but in every case you will be going through the process of acquiring an assigned vin number, this requires bills of sale for all major components, axles, suspension parts motor, transmission, etc, best to go to your local DMV, they will give you all the specific info that applies to your particular state, or province.
Hi Shannon, I am still working on the plans , had some things get in the way, so looking to have them out in spring 2022. there coming along really well. Thanks, Kent.
