    i am sure others have mentioned and sorry to dissapoint but your new ht5550 is a 4phase pixel shifter with real resolution of 1920x1080 just like your previous epson(although epson only does 2phase shift so not 4k). your benq also has a smaller 0.47 dmd as opposed to 0.66" that has double the pixels and only has to 2phase shift to get to 4k. i sidegraded to 0.66" dmd (acer v7850) and diff in sharpness is there when compared to my previous 0.47" 4k dlp chip projector. larger chip has double the micromirrors on it(4million vs 2 mil) and therefore only has to shift twise to get all 8 million pixels on screen as opposed to 4phase shifting with smaller 0.47" dmd. either way both are sharper than espon models since those only 2phase shift 2million pixels so you get half of 4k resolution

    • @biogons14
      @biogons14 3 роки тому

      Yes, but the Acer V7850 has been discontinued and you only have the Optoma version UHZ65, with similar cost to the JVC NX5, but only vertical lens shift.

    This Benq also uses pixel shifting to display those 8.3 millions pixels, like the epson (even if it's not the same technology used)
    But you're right to say that it's a TRUE 4K projector because of the amount of pixels displayed, but the only NATIVE 4K projector are Sony's and now JVC's so at least 5000$, any other brand uses some kind of pixel shifting

    • @JeffRauseo
      @JeffRauseo  4 роки тому +1

      I know, but it’s not downgrading in the number of the pixels like Epson. In my eyes if it had all 8.3 million, it’s 4K

      The new native JVCs are AWESOME, but they are expensive and also HUGE/LARGE. I would love to get my old 2k JVC replaced with their 4K. But to be honest Im not motivated to pay 5-6000 this time. The Benq is the best low priced alternative, but rainbow effect is present but tollerable. And one one last thing, the contrast radio mentioned is NOT native contrast! So don't get fooled by that, and as mentioned not a native 4K projector, but "True 4k" a terrible term that to be should be illegal because it is so deceiving. I mean just the using the word "True" , OMG!

    I am looking at the ViewSonic PX747-4K 4K. It is true 4K specs, supports HDR, (3,500 Lumens, 12,000:1 contrast ratio) and has a 15,000 hour lamp. And 3 year warranty. All for $900! I have a Viewsonic Full HD (1080P) projector and have used it for 7 years almost nonstop. Bulb had almost 4,600 hours on it. The bulb still never burned out! I replaced it to regain the lost brightness. But I only paid $21 for a replacement bulb. And have rocked it for 6 months already. Almost 1,000 hours so far.
    When I play true 4K content on it, it is absolutely gorgeous and definitely rivals cheap 4K TV pics, even as only a 1080p projector. I previously had an Optoma 720P projector I picked up in 2005. Optoma had beautiful pics. But they were plagued with colorwheel issues. And I won’t ever buy one again, as I paid $1,300 at the time (2005) for a 720P. I picked up the Viewsonic in about 2012. Paid $550 brand new and STILL rock it with my Sony Prologic Surround 7.2 setup. And a 114 inch reflective, retractable screen. I love my theatre! Still rivals 4K projector setups, even today. One of these days I will do a video of my theatre.
    But my next 4K will be the Viewsonic. I highly recommend their projectors for those on a budget. Pic quality and reliability, with warranty cannot be beat for the price by anyone, including Ben Q.

    Got myself the Epson EH-TW 9400. Pretty much same price. I got to compare those two at my home cinema dealer. The colors of the BenQ are awesome! I decided to buy the Epson anyway because of those reasons: the black ist better, the fan is slightly softer, the gaming input lag is lower. It was a real close decision. The BenQ IS awesome though!

    The way you described the difference between this BenQ and the Epson was confusing. You made it seem like the BenQ was not also a pixel-shifter, without actually clarifying thus. Both the BenQ and Epson are pixel-shifting projectors.
    If you pay very close attention to Epson's documentation and marketing, they don't actually ever say that their projector displays a 4K image (because it doesn't). What they DO say is that their projector uses "4K Enhancement technology" and that it "accepts 4K content". In reality, their 1080p chips are shifting the pixels at HALF distance, resulting in something closer to a 2K image.
    The difference with these BenQ projectors (and others from Optoma and co.) is that they actually shift their 1080p chip at FULL distance, resulting in 8.3 million individually addressable pixels, which is what CEDIA categorizes as a true 4K image. So they CAN be considered "true" 4K projectors, but not "native" 4K projectors.

    • @stanlee5465
      @stanlee5465 4 роки тому

      But give me a break! The marketing guys are obviously attempting to intentionally confuse people, and are perfectly happy if people just assume that True 4K means they're getting a projector with a 4K panel (which I'm SURE is what FilmsAtHome originally thought this was), and not just another 1080p unit with a more effective implementation of the same pixel shifting concept derived from the first generation Faux K LCD eShift devices.

    The reasons I'd never go with DLP, is the terrible brightness uniformity and black levels. The Epson 5050UB is a similar price, and has way better brightness uniformity, color, black levels, motorized zoom, and has better quality lenses.
    DLP just blows compared to 3LCD and LcoS. I'd take better black levels, color, brightness uniformity, and lumens, any day.

      Yes, the BenQ has no SDE (you won't see the pixels) but I'll gladly give up the 8.3 million pixels of the DLP (the BenQ is still a pixel shifter, not naive 4K) and go with the pixel shifting Epson 5050 with its superior placement flexibility, superior black floor, superior contrast and motorized lens. Also don't have to worry about the rainbow effect with the Epson.

      The only benq that I would debate on is the 3550 as it’s $1500. Hard to get anything other than dlp for 4k at that point. But at $3000 the epson is better. And if you look slightly used a jvc $6000 new is amazing and blows all of these away. No contest.

      @@JeffRauseo Poor native contrast is just the nature of this DLP technology. When measured it may be even less. An auto iris helps with *dynamic* contrast, but the real number to look for is the *native* contrast.

    • @2Timothy2.15
      @2Timothy2.15 4 роки тому +1

      @@JeffRauseo Here's a few measured contrast numbers:
      With the iris off on the BenQ HT5550, the native contrast ratio is as high as ~ 675:1. Not a typo. With the iris on, the best the BenQ could achieve is a *dynamic contrast* of ~ 5489:1 (but at the expense of significant detail clipping in both highlight and shadow areas).
      With the iris off on the Epson 5050UB, the native contrast ratio is as high as ~ 5429:1. With the iris on, the best the Epson could achieve is a dynamic contrast of ~ 37,014:1. (In Digital Cinema HDR mode, turning the auto iris on renders the black level too low to measure ... which is incredible).
      So as we can see, depending on the mode used, the Epson's native contrast can be as high as the BenQ's dynamic contrast, and without the crushing blacks and blown out highlights that the BenQ can suffer from. Even though the BenQ arguably has better motion handling and no SDE (screen-door effect), the overall picture quality of the Epson will have much better pop and contrast (and no rainbow effect common to DLP systems). I purchased a Pioneer 720p Kuro HDTV about 12 years ago, and still have it. Even though the BenQ displays true 4K (1080p x 4 pixel shifting) unlike the Epson's faux K (1080p x 2 pixel shifting), the Kuro has taught me one thing. Contrast is king.

    Aside from an uptick in detail due to being a single chip design and achieving increased pixels on screen via a variant on pixel-shifting (which is only noticeable at close distances) - the Epson 5050 bests the BenQ 5550 in every other area of picture quality and performance.
    The Epson 5050 has greater lumen output, contrast and black levels - no rainbow effect, and superior color due to its 3-chip design - much faster response time at 28ms - and a far superior all glass motorized lens assembly with lens memory.

      @@Eurica76 You're conflating True 4K with Native 4K. It pixel shifts to show all 8.3 million pixels. Showing all 8.3 million pixels is true 4K despite not being native 4K. The Epson is faux K because though it accepts a 4K signal with 8.3 million pixels it only shows half of them on screen.

      Neither of these pixel-shifters are true or native 4K if you really want to split hairs - 4096 x 2160 is true 4K (8.8 million pixels). However Jeff is getting all excited about an uptick in resolution (only when seated close to his screen) when the Epson 5050 is far superior in contrast and black levels, has zero rainbow effect because it's a 3-chip design, has much higher lumen output, and is also far superior for "4K60" gaming with a much faster response-time of only 28ms.

      @@TomlinsonHolman52583 In the context of this discussion we're talking about UHD 4K, not DCI 4K. We could say 2160p, but that isn't what the industry uses. They use the term "4K" which sounds more appealing to consumers.

    From what iv gathered, even this is not Native 4k. It is a single -chip Dlp with native resolution 1920×1080 Shifted to 3840×2160. Wish u would Kindly get this basic fact clearly across right before an indepth review like this. But yeah if u can label this a " real"" true" etecetra and be satisfied then i guess its fine..

    The frontal grids are functional? Because it is the way to ventilate it inside a bookcase. But, as you can see in this internal review the front grilles are blinded!
