I am bengali, brought up in Uttar Pradesh, now living in New Delhi, initially during childhood and teen age Rabindra Sangeet seemed so boring for me, but now when I am now 32, I listen it, understand it and enjoy it too. Belive me, Rabindra Sangeet is not just a song, it is a philosophy of life .....each word and phrase of Rabindra Sangeet is based on fact. Although I enjoy Rabindra Sangeet in voice of Indrani Sen, she is made for Rabindra Sangeet.
Tagore had a lavish life is brutally untrue!!! Tagore had a luxury life in his earlier life only. Later for the sake of education of rural India he gave up all his wealth. There is hardly one personality in entire India who became impoverished just to educate his countrymen!!! All his wealth and energy was used to build the vedic Ashrama Shantiniketan ...Man like Tagore comes once in a millennium...

I am happy to see that you mentioned Kadambari Devi here. She was the first person to read his writing, even Rabindranath had to change some parts of his poems in Kadambari devi's advice. But she committed suicide, it had other reasons. She didn't have children. That could be the reason.
