Professional plant person here. Gaura is a short lived perennial, usually only lasting about 3 years. But 100% worth planting! Drought tolerant and so dainty when it flowers! I add a new one to my garden every year! Asparagus Ferns aren't true ferns and actually prefer a fair bit of light. A Peace Lily is a good replacement for that spot. For the groundcover spot along the driveway, it's hard to say without knowing how much sun it gets, but I'd say it's probably a part sun spot based on the short clip. Also it's a hot and dry area with all that concrete. Creeping thyme would do it IF it gets at least 6hrs of sun. Otherwise a dwarf mondo grass would work better and crowd out any weeds.
Creeping thyme is SO beautiful and the bees in our area looooove them! Always live when the professionals weigh in, thank you so much for these great tips!
@@bonesonstones1 agree 100% that creeping thyme looks beautiful between stones. In the past several years, I have made the effort to plant only native plants in my yard. SO many more caterpillars, dragonflies, butterflies, and, yes, bees. I even have two Bee Hotels. ❤

I think it's mostly because she put asparagus fern in a low light room but they need A LOT. She also put a tree in a pot and I don't think it was isolated so it probably froze and lack water
Wisteria gives blooms on the last years branches, you need to cut back the green growth (the long tendrills) until the third node. Those nodes will produce the blooms
Love my Prius (hybrid), I’ve had it for 10 years and it’s still going strong! The gas mileage is amazing, so much so hubby started taking my car to work and leaving me his. Mondo grass is great for crevices, you can just buy a couple of plants and split them up, they’ll multiply to fill the space.❤️✨
Had a European Honda Fit (Jazz) too. Loved it to pieces but my partner hit a deer with it and it had to be written off. They're not discontinued here, as far as I'm aware so we're currently eying up a hybrid verson of one of the newer models of the jazz. 😅 Cant beat the magic seats hahah
We just got a CRV hybrid sport AWD and it’s been great so far! Noticeably more power than the 2012 CRV that we traded in for it. And almost scarily quiet, it has a light on the dash that says “READY” that comes on just to let you know that the car is on and ready to drive.
Your peonies are very happy that you moved them. They will just continue to spread if they are happy like that. And if you ever need / want to, you can divide the tubers into more plants as well. They don't usually bloom the year you move but the older plants at least should bloom this year and the new ones will bloom next year. Just say nice things to them when you walk past and tell them what a great job they are doing ☺️
We loved our spark for a long time! It's not electric/hybrid because we were/are renters, and charging locations weren't as dependable when we needed a car. It is small! Peace lilies usually come about 4 plants to one pot so if you get a really full one you can pot it up and seperate the plants out and have multiple plants for the original price. Also loosen the roots a little when potting/planting as they are usually pot bound and too tight.
I have a BMW i3 with a range extender. It’s fully electric but with the Range extender you don’t get battery range anxiety. I actually recently just got a Kia Sportage hybrid and i loooooove it! Totally lux interior and exterior is gorgeous. I think it's a bit bigger than the fit, but it's such a good size for hauling things. I was able to fit an entire 6 drawer ikea tarva dresser assembled in the back lol I went with the non-pulg in hybrid as the actual electric motor in the plug in only went for like 60km, and the dealerships told me that they are actually phasing out the plug ins!
I have a Toyota Prius Plug in Hybrid, it's a 2015 model, but I love it so much. Seats fold flat and I fit a twin mattress and bed frame in it with the hatch tied, and another time a very long mid century modern dresser and glass top with the hatch shut. It's my Mary Poppins car that magically fits everything.
I have a Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid which does come as a plug-in and I LOVE IT!!! I do a lot of DIY and I can haul all the wood and materials I need. A 4x8 does not fit inside, but I have strapped one to my roof rack with no issues. The 4-wheel drive is awesome for all kinds of weather and mountain driving. I highly suggest checking out this car. Good luck on your car hunt Kelsey!
I would die for my Prius. I love it. I don’t have the fully electric but mine is a hybrid (that you don’t have to plug in) and it’s the best. 50+ mpg. Tons of room. Fancy interior. Reliable. Big fan.
A suggestion for outside. Using tropical plants instead of annuals because they look great and you can bring them inside. Everyone complimented me when I did that by mixing different tropical plants. It looked great.
@@rose77778888 probably! But contrary to a lot of people’s belief having invasive plants in pots doesn’t always prevent the plant from spreading and pollinating other plants like it
We have a 2019 Hyundai Ioniq PHEV (and a Kona EV), and it is fantastic. We got the higher trim level, and hub has driven it for Lyft, as well as vacation travels. It is a comfortable and economical daily driver! The state rebate was enough to cover the cost of installing a good level 2 charger.
Hey as someone who is all about sustainability I'd reccomend looking into native gardening. There are a TON of invasive species and sadly creeping thyme is on of them I would not reccomend it.
my mom is obsessed with her nissan leaf and tbh so am i, best bang for your buck if you want an electric hatchback. just a lil bit bigger than a fit. i think she gets like 350 km off of one charge. she was a suzuki sx4 girly before which is basically a honda fit with a lil more headroom and apparently it handles pretty similar. also you can really upgrade them to high heaven lol
Love how much you love your Honda Fit. My daughter's first beater car 2007 Fit and she just bought a 2019 Fit this time with all the bells and whistles! Could not believe the prices though. Good luck on your new purchase!
I have a 2021 RAV4 Hybrid XLE and absolutely love it. I came from a smaller hatchback car as well and the transition was really easy. If it’s in your budget, I’d look into the RAV4 prime(plug in hybrid).
Fertilize your wisteria down at the ground level where the vine starts every year. If you have Espoma in Canada it is really a good organic fertilizer.
So I mean my Cars full gas but I have a kia Soul, it's my second one and I know they make hybrids and I HIGHLY recommend. It's a fairly "small" car but Interior is gigantic and they have some amazing trim package options. Seats lay down fully flat and I had no issues transporting myself, my 6'3 boyfriend, my 120lb germand shepherd, 75lb aussie mix and a gigantic cooler plus all of our bags and camping chairs and stuff for a 4.5 hours away trip and used less than a tank of gas one way (and again I have the full gas powered) plus their hvac systems are PEAAAAAAAKKKKK in Kias. Survived super toasty in the Colorado winters and nice and chilly in the Oklahoma summers
i had a kia soul for 5 years and honestly considering what we've seen kelsey transport the trunk is way too small. it's got a really large opening and good vertical space but aside from that i find the trunk in my forte (!!!) a lot more useable, especially with passengers in the back seat. kias do have really good base trim options and one of the best warranties though, if she's looking for a good ev crossover the niro would probably do her well
3:18 for your outdoor pots it’s best to pick a plant that is rated two zones lower than yours as they aren’t as well insulated as plants are in the ground. Though I think “zones” are kind of an American thing, I believe there is something similar in Canada 😅. The advice you didn’t ask for but I provided anyways 😂
Hey Kelsey. This may be too late. But I had a Honda Fit and my husband and I loved it. In fact, my husband asked me if he could have it when I wanted a "new" car. I bought a 2018 Honda HRV last year (in dark green, we went with 2018 because they discontinued green after that year). And I looove it. So my new favorite is the HRV. Same back seat reconfiguration options as the Fit. Highly recommend!
I LOVE my Ford C-Max. They don’t make them new anymore but they are amazing hybrid vehicles! Hatchback, seats fold down, apple car play, nice interior! Love mine to death!
I'm planting clover or creeping thyme next spring instead of our tiny lawn. I can't cope with mowing regularly so No Mow May is turning into no mow June/July... your party I spiced me to.hold one of my own. My partner and I are turning 100 between us this year so Aguest party date still tbc but deffo happening!!
10/10 recommend planting lemon thyme in that spot! It’s survived many winters and I’ve moved it a million times. Not sure it would survive in Canada but it’s so pretty, durable, and supports bees. (It’s not a native ground cover though.)
I too have a Honda Fit and love love LOVE it… but I’m also looking at getting a plug-in hybrid (also sadly because Honda discontinued the Fit - RUDE!). I’m looking at the Mini Cooper Countryman. It’s about the same size as the fit, but definitely fancier. Look forward to hearing what you get and how you like it.
My first car was a Fit too and I loved how easy it was to park yet spacious enough to help all my friends with their apartment moves! I miss her, she was white and we called her the Aspirin! 🥰
Regarding cars - LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my Nexo! Handles like a dream. 0 to 60 almost instantly. Lot of cargo space. seats fold down. One of the most environmental friendly cars being made. It cleans the air as you drive! "We are the first automotive manufacturer to make a hydrogen Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle available to the Canadian public. Nexo is proof of our dedication to sustainable motoring technology without compromise, offering an SUV that can travel up to 570 kilometres** and emit nothing more than water and purified air."
I too have a discontinued car, but it's a plug in hybrid: Ford C-MAX Energi. I wish they still made them, because it's PERFECT for small hauls. Mine also happens to be a higher trim level with a moon roof (like the really big ones) and leather, heated seats. I will cry when I have to trade her in.
I also have two of those ferns,I have them in the window in my living room and they get a lot of morning sunlight. But like all ferns, they need to stay moist. I feel the soil every now and then and if it's dry I give it water. Mine grew 3 times it size in a year.
I’m a Honda girl for life!!!! All I’ve ever owned is Honda accords. I just bought a 2022 Honda Accord hybrid sport and it’s been great. I’ve never had any major problems with any of my Hondas. Just normal maintenance upkeep type things but never had any issues what so ever
We were gonna get a PHEV as well last year and then we ended up with full EV and LOVE it. We got a chevy bolt EUV (which is the hatchback/ "suv" version and we are not disappointed in the switch! I went from a sull sized cross over (Ford escape) to this and it does sit lower and I lost a little space...but the seats still fold down and I can still pack it full with stuff! Chevy is also coming out with the blazer EV next year though, so eventually I'll upgrade in size again
You have to plant peonies EXTREMELY DEEP I to the soil for them to flower 🌸. Learned it the hard way 😅. Also for your path, creeping thyme! Thank me later
We just bought a 2019 Nissan Leaf (full electric) a few weeks ago and so far we totally love it! Its a hatchback and pretty spacious, ours has some luxurious touches we've never had before like Apple Carplay and heated seats + steering wheel 😯 We don't live near a city so we were worried about the availability of charging, but since we can charge at home it really hasn't been an issue (generally EVs come with a cable to plug into a regular outlet). I know you're looking more for a hybrid option but thought id throw that out there anyway!
Kelsey I have the exact car you’re describing. I have the Hyundai Tucson Plug In Hybrid. It’s a compact SUV, seats fold flat and very luxurious inside. We bought it a year ago and only fill up gas when we go on road trips, otherwise we stay within the fully EV mode in our city. Highly recommend!
Kelsey! I Switched over to the Ford Fusion Hybrid a few years back and I LOVE it ! The highest trim level (platinum) has a luxury feel, and it has been a SUPER reliable car. I have the non-plug in version (it recharges when you brake) and still get around 40-43 mpg. I have also heard good things about the plug in Ford Fusion (the Energi). I’ve had the car for almost 4 years now and all I’ve ever had to get done are the usual oil changes and new tires. Not sure if you’re a honda girlie and want to stick with that brand, but I am pleasantly surprised with Ford. For reference, I had a Honda accord, and then a Honda fit for years, so I know the honda cars well.
Oh also - the back seats don’t fold flat to the floor like a hatchback would, but they do fold down surprisingly flat. Like enough so that the floor of the trunk and the folded down seats form a pretty level surface.
try a hyundai kona! I think they have an electric or hybrid model now, but I have a 2021 n i love her, she's a great size (big enough to like, camp and move furniture but small enough to parallel park in a city) and reliable! Not the most powerful but she gets the job done
I had a Honda Fit For 10 years. She was my first new car and I loved her. I got a Toyota Prius Echo about 2 years ago and love her. I test drove a few hybrids and they either didn’t have enough umph in the engine or were too small. My Prius drives well, has great space in the trunk and back seat, and gets an average of 56-62 MPG. There are a lot of choices out there in the hybrid and electric market, good luck!
Regarding plants among your walk pathway, the easiest thing MIGHT be to get a battery operated, rechargeable weed trimmer to keep the grass trimmed. If you dig out the grass to plant something else, something like a ground cover Thyme would be nice: one kind is wooly Thyme. BUT it’s really hard to get all the grass roots out and you might end up having to weed the Thyme. Therefore, the simplest thing at this time is to leave the grass and have an easy way to keep in under control
I have a 2012 Toyota Prius which is a hybrid and I LOVE it. It was my dad's before me and it still runs like new. I don't have to worry about plugging it up and get gas very rarely. And when I do it significantly cheaper than a regular gas car. Seats fold down in the back and give huge trunk space. I think you can actually fit a queen size bed back there when it's folded down. Hope that helps on your car journey 💕
Not a hybrid or ev, but I LOVE my Hyundai venue! It’s a compact suv (similar size to kia soul) and it has fold down seats, modular accessories, and the Apple CarPlay is 100% wireless with a huge screen!
Okay Kels... The economics of car buying is buy at 2 years old, and sell at seven, most cars retain their value during this time. As for the walkway, I might suggest woolly thyme. Also, your nursery staff should be able to help direct you to plants best suited for containers. Since container plants will dry out faster, they often require more frequent watering, but they must also have good drainage so as not to get water logged. If the planter doesn't have good drainage, it's better to place a nursery pot directly into the container and cover bare areas with sphagnum moss.
@@raeperonneau4941 ... the theory is that it greatest depreciation and manufacturing glitches occur during the first two years. Most dealerships are pretty good about "certified" used and extended warranty to maximize the resale value.
I had to buy a new car this year and bought the Volkswagen ID.4 and they have awesome programs for free charging for the first new years , etc!! All the trouble I thought I’d have with transitioning from fully gas to fully electric has actually been SO easy. Especially with the great range and city commuting. Seats fold down easyyyy for big items or car camping 😊 8:05
Get a Toyota Prius Prime - plug in hybrid. Our 2019 gets 2.6 litres /100 km overall. It’s a hatchback. It’s our 3rd Prius, and we love it - very reliable.
I love your channel - your garden and home are beautiful. It's wonderful thinking back to how you have both moved homes afew times and made each one special. With the plants in your yard, how confident are you as to what aspect your yard faces and how much sun each plant is getting? You need to make sure a plant that actually wants semi shade isn't getting burnt by sitting in the sun. You also need to be wary with exposure to cold winds etc. You'd be surprised where you might find colder pockets even on a sunnier day. You can find that out by spending a sunny day in the garden and watching how the sun moves through the space throughout the day. For the winds, simply observe on a windy day. I would also not recommend pots unless they are very large and you don't mind continuing to check them every few days to make sure they don't need more water or they've been overwatered etc. They also need feeding with liquid sea weed for instance after awhile, as they will simply exhaust all the goodness in the soil after awhile. You might get better results for at least some of the larger plants if you lift some slabs in your yard, dig the hole well, work in plenty of compost according to the preference of the plant and then plant them in it. The best time for planting and moving plants is typically Autumn. You can also find great deals for bare root plants online around that time if year too. I am a seasoned gardener and always have much greater success with plants in the ground, along with less stress (and less loss of money!), as plants seem to just enjoy having more space for their roots and the nutrients in the ground. Also I think your wisteria looks lovely! You might need to prune it to encourage flowering spurs. Google it and you will find out the correct method and time of year for your particular variety. You typically prune once and then again later on in the year to shorten the same spurs again to encourage flowering spurs. It's a good sign it is flowering though, it can typically take many years before you see wisteria flowering! If you tend to it now, you should see greater blooms in the years to come.
The beginning where Elliot steals your water was adorable 😂 I love seeing his more playful personality come out sometimes as time goes on. My boyfriend would do that too.
I searched for this comment because I thought it was so funny 😂 I don't think he realized she was filming and she was trying to get a specific shot and he messed it up. I think it was playful since she decided to include it in the vlog instead of edit it out.
I seeded dichondra between my stepping stones. It was beautiful until the heat and humidity of summer (coastal NC) se5 in. In Canada it may live better.
Car suggestion!- I absolutely love my Volvo XC90 plug-in hybrid. The XC90 is a midsize SUV, but the XC60 is a bit small and probably more the size you're looking for. It drives super smooth and the interior is super duper nice
I have a Mazda CX5 Crossover that I'm obsessed with. It's a grand touring trim, so all the bells and whistles. They make a hybrid Madza that is similar! Also, try planting things that are native to your area, rather than things that are just pretty.
I have a Hyundai Kona which I absolutely love. My first car was a Hyundai Elantra hatchback and like you, I absolutely LOVED IT. When I went back in 2021 to get a new lease, I found out they stopped making the Elantra in Hatchback but had come out with the Kona which is kind of a step up from the Elantra but also kinda replaced the hatchback version. I absolutely 10/10 love it and am obsessed. I just checked their website but they only have the Kona in gas or electric, but the next size up which is the Tucson does come in Hybrid! It would be a little bigger than what you’re used to bit not massive in any way. I would recommend Hyundai without hesitation, this is my 3rd car from them, and my parents have had 2 now as well!
Just get a hybrid RAV4. It’s an SUV. Ravs use to be small. I also have a 20 year old Rav... still going strong. My point is that the new ones are not so compact, but they are very drivable and gas mileage is amazing. Also, SUVs are nice when You have to drive in weather that most people will stay home in. I’m a nurse, so I have to drive in bad weather. I had a Mazda5 with standard trans, that I loved driving, but it wasn’t great in the snow. I’m in Philadelphia, pa, so we don’t get the kind of snow you get on the regular, but that means we probably don’t get the kind of snow removal your area is capable either. It can get dicey. Good luck on you car quest 😊 Oh, and get a grow-light for your bathroom, you’ll replace less plants.
I absolutely love my ford escape, I've had a brand new 2011 and now 2016. My next move is the hybrid and I'm certain I'll stay with an escape. This one is going to the kids so I'll be on the market in 6-12months
I have a Honda HRV, just a little bit bigger then your fit, and the new HRV is soooo nice. Europe has a hybrid version but I don’t know if Canada is expected to get one :(
An asparagus fern is not actually a fern, it’s in the asparagus family (like the edible green and white asparagus) it’s just called a fern because of it’s fern like and feathery leaves. It should actually grow well in direct or indirect bright light. It can also store water very well, so it does well if you forget to water it sometimes, but thats also why it doesn’t tolerate wet roots constantly and doesn‘t need high humidizy to thrive. Hope this helps 🌞🌱
I loooove my white fit, “Snowy,” (from Tin Tin) and it’s 10 years old. And I am also so bummed that they stopped making new ones! They are fantastic cars 😅
I love your love for Honda Fits because I feel the same for my baby blue Fit that I named Perry (like periwinkle). Had her for two years, she was my baby, and I planned to drive her 'til the very end. Just bought her new tires and everything recently. Aaand then a car hit me and ran off a couple weeks ago and it was a total loss. I miss her deeply, and I wish I could find the exact same car again! Fits are just perfect.
Honda fit is also my dream car but my husband got a honda odyssey(mommy van)lol! Yeah u could really sell your honda for a great price because Japan cars are way durable so they don’t depreciate in value a lot like other cars☺️ i’ve learned that from my husband who works at car dealership before. Great backyard make over as always!🎉
A Google top! We have lots of those at home too ! P.s. spray loads of silicon lubricant into all parts of the boot lock and catch, most likely lots of dirt is stopping it working properly.

If not clover dichondra.
If creeping thyme will grow there, it would be a nice option.
And pollinators love both clover and creeping thyme.
another option is wild stonecrop (sedum ternatum) which can handle a lot of shade like you probably have between the buildings.

Make sure they aren’t invasive ❤
@@fZM0OY, they would be in pots wouldn't they, if they are coming inside for the Toronto winter?
@@rose77778888 probably! But contrary to a lot of people’s belief having invasive plants in pots doesn’t always prevent the plant from spreading and pollinating other plants like it
@@fZM0OY, but would tropical plants survive the Canadian winter?
We have a 2019 Hyundai Ioniq PHEV (and a Kona EV), and it is fantastic. We got the higher trim level, and hub has driven it for Lyft, as well as vacation travels. It is a comfortable and economical daily driver! The state rebate was enough to cover the cost of installing a good level 2 charger.
Hey as someone who is all about sustainability I'd reccomend looking into native gardening. There are a TON of invasive species and sadly creeping thyme is on of them I would not reccomend it.
maybe try clover in the path on the driveway. I ave a clover lawn and love it. its low maintenance barely needs trimming and is great for the bees
I had a Honda fit and got a Subaru crosstrek. I didn’t get the hybrid version but I love it!! More space and it does feel more ~luxurious~
Aspergus fern loves indirect but loads of light! In my house it it thriving next to my window.
my mom is obsessed with her nissan leaf and tbh so am i, best bang for your buck if you want an electric hatchback. just a lil bit bigger than a fit. i think she gets like 350 km off of one charge. she was a suzuki sx4 girly before which is basically a honda fit with a lil more headroom and apparently it handles pretty similar. also you can really upgrade them to high heaven lol
I ADORE my Kia Niro plug-in hybrid. We have a 2020 model and truly it’s my favorite car. Definitely recommend test driving one!
Truth.
Love mine to death!
why do companies stop making cars?
It's so cool that you can recycle your plant pots at that store!
I also have a FITT as my first car & I’ve had it like 8 years now & know without a doubt it’ll forever be the best car I’ve ever had
Violets would be so cute for that stone walkway!
really love the skoda octavia hybrid!!
We recently got a Kia Sportage hybrid. It's not a plug in though. I love it. Its very comfortable to drive. A bit bigger than what you are in. 😊
I have same feels about my fit! I love mine and going 10 years strong.
Creeping thyme is the way to go! So beautiful
What? I've never heard that before. Isn't the most important part for them to bloom to NOT plant the "eyes" too deep?
Yes, it is correct that you don't want to plant peonies more than 4 to 6 inches deep, otherwise they refuse to flower and forever sulk!
Omg I bought my Fit shortly before you did. I love it, and I had no idea they were discontinued 😢
Great job! and wild thyme for the drive!
I don’t have one, but a neighbor and a family friend both have the Honda CRV Hybrid and they love it.
Get a Honda H-RV! I had one and I loved it! Small but spacious ❤
Everything turned out very pretty for your party ❤️
love teh vid and how real you keep things !!!
I have a 22 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xE hybrid and I love it!!!
Walk path plant you could you is Scottish clover. It’s low growing, and really pretty.
try a hyundai kona!
I thought selling at 3 years was ideal for value retention 🤔
As a sales rep who leases, you couldn’t pay me enough money to buy a used car. Lol After what we put them through and then give them back…🤯
@@raeperonneau4941 ... the theory is that it greatest depreciation and manufacturing glitches occur during the first two years.
Seats fold down easyyyy for big items or car camping 😊

Get a Toyota Prius Prime - plug in hybrid. Our 2019 gets 2.6 litres /100 km overall. It’s a hatchback. It’s our 3rd Prius, and we love it - very reliable.
I looooove my rav4 hybrid! Not a plug in obvi but it’s so comfy and imho the perfect size!!!
I have a 2019 Hyundai Ioniq and I LOVE it! Hatchback, five seater, cute. Perfect car!
I didn’t get a playful vibe watching that at all, particularly the glance from Kelsie as she turned away from the sink.
Good luck on you car quest 😊
Oh, and get a grow-light for your bathroom, you’ll replace less plants.
I absolutely love my ford escape, I've had a brand new 2011 and now 2016. My next move is the hybrid and I'm certain I'll stay with an escape. This one is going to the kids so I'll be on the market in 6-12months
I 100% add basic things to to-do lists like getting dressed. But i have to add food because otherwise I forget to eat. 😅
the DISRESPECT of him stealing your water lol I would have LOST it
I had an Ioniq 2017 from Hyundai and it was my favoriteeee ever!! Definitely recommend. The newer ones are crazy cool like teslas too
I also love my Honda fit, I got mine slightly before you and so sad they don't make it anymore
In your driveway u can plant walkables they are different low ground covers that are able to be walked on and all different types.
I loooove my white fit, “Snowy,” (from Tin Tin) and it’s 10 years old. And I am also so bummed that they stopped making new ones! They are fantastic cars 😅
I love my Honda fit too! I wish they still made them in North American
Creeping thyme would also be cute between the slabs of rock between the house 🥰
Honda HRV!!! I love mine. Hatchback, seats go down flat, apple car play.
Look into Subaru, I have a crosstrek. It’s a hatchback, seats fold flat. I even camp in this thing. Comfy, super high quality interior, big fan
Love our orange Prius C. Her name is Serenity after the Firefly show. 65 mpg!
Fits are just perfect.
my fave!
So interesting,, my wisteria haven’t bloomed barely at all this year, either!!! I’m in the Midwest, US
Plant creeping thyme around stones in driveway. Can be walked on and doesn’t need cutting. Smells really good when walking on it.
