Salamanca is a beautiful and welcoming city located in the northwest of Spain, in the community of Castilla y León, 212 kilometers from Madrid.
Salamanca is famous for its sandstone buildings. Thanks to this stone, when evening comes, the light of the setting sun gives the monuments a special golden hue. This daily transformation as earned it the nickname of “La Dorada” aka Golden City.
Among these sandstone buildings is its University, founded in 1218, is the oldest in Spain, and one of the first in Europe, along with those of Paris, Oxford and Bologna. The university gives the city a lively atmosphere, with students filling the streets every night.
Each year, thousands of students from around the world, more than 25,000 in fact, choose Salamanca to learn, fine tune and practice the Spanish language, making it one of the focus points for language learning in Spain.

Salamanca es una hermosa y acogedora ciudad ubicada en el noroeste de España, en la comunidad de Castilla y León, a 212 kilómetros de Madrid.
Salamanca es famosa por sus edificios de piedra arenisca. Gracias a esta piedra, al anochecer, la luz del sol da a los monumentos un tono dorado especial. Esta transformación le ha valido el sobrenombre de “La Dorada”.
Entre estos edificios de piedra arenisca se encuentra su Universidad, fundada en 1218, es la más antigua de España y una de las primeras de Europa, junto con las de París, Oxford y Bolonia. La universidad le da a la ciudad un ambiente animado, con estudiantes llenando las calles todas las noches.
Cada año, miles de estudiantes de todo el mundo, más de 25.000 de hecho, eligen Salamanca para aprender y practicar la lengua española, convirtiéndola en uno de los focos para el aprendizaje del español.
