Jeez you guys feel like nostalgic to me every time I watch you guys it makes me remember when I finally started becoming a more professional artist and it’s because of you guys I’m still so inspired to try new things today
The frugal crafter has actually went down a rabbit hole exploring “cheap” colored pencils and watercolors …. She has basically found that majority of the cheap art supplies coming out of China are from the same big companies (I forget how many exactly maybe two or 3 big companies) she has literally bought the same product over and over again with slightly different packaging and a different name slapped on. I just find this little bit of information VERY interesting.

Arteza is American made
@@tabbylynn4130 Whilst Arteza are an American company based in the US, I believe the pencils are still made in China. To my knowledge, the only pencil companies who do not outsource their production to China are Derwent (made in the UK), Faber-Castell (made in Germany), Caran D'ache (made in Switzerland) and Sanford Prismacolors (made in Mexico).
@@BlueKungFu Add Holbein and Mitsubishi (Posca) to the list. They are made in Japan.

I started watching them in middle school- now I'm a freshman in college! Its crazy how time passes ahaha
Things like the fluorescent pink that are less lightfast *could* actually be a harder pencil because they would have had to load the pigment more to achieve that color. So the ratio of the binders and wax that make that color could be different than some of the other pencils.
The most annoying thing about keeping pencils in a barrel (or a jar, in my case) is when they start getting smaller after you sharpen them and you have to tilt the barrel to get them. All of my favorite colors are in that situation right now and it annoys me so much!
I have never thought about that! Glad you pointed that out. You’d have to buy a roll pencil case with the barrel I guess. 🤔 Which makes the Experts cheaper…
I believe that you should consider contacting Arteza and asking for products for review! You have created an excellent brand and your channel is popular enough to garner some attention from companies that should want you to feature their products! You can create videos and stock up on supplies at the same time! I just wanted to say that I enjoyed your books. I purchased Una by Adam and Doodles and Me by Steph. Both books are well worth the money spent!!! I am saving up for the third!

I have the expert colored pencils, and as someone that uses lineart I like them a lot better than prismacolors as they don't cover up the line art if you go too heavy with them.
I really got into coloured pencils a few years back when I got some from Prismacolor and Faber Castell the main thing that surprised me with "artist grade" coloured pencils was how much smother and blendable they where compared to the children's pencils I had been using until then. Adam did some blending in his art I would kind of have been interested to see how they compered in terms of blend ability. Allso UUU bendy ruler!

The only Arteza product I've tried is the 24 gouache set and honestly I didn't like it. I really wanted to like it but I couldn't, especially since a lot of the paint where mixed with white. I really enjoyed the video ❤️❤️

I've been swatching a lot of coloured pencils lately, in part because I got a set in a tin (though sadly not Arteza ones), and I've noticed that about the softness/hardness of the leads - I think it's possibly to do with the pigment composition, but I can't say for sure.

I'm pretty sure the ones with more Starz means they last longer through uv and withering.

The Arteza expert lightfastness system is a little sneaky though, it's the reverse of other brands. In Arteza, one star is the best rating of which there aren't very many, but with polychromos for example 3 stars is the best of which they almost all are.

Nice video guys! I enjoy watching your reviews a lot. I have no chance to try Arteza since you can't get them in my country (Argetina) and importing them with the incredibly unfair custom taxes we have would make them super expensive. Here you can buy polychromos in thins or open stock, they are not super cheap but it's a very good thing that you can get them in almost any serious art supply shop!

I have the expert colored pencils and I love them! I think they are a great alternative to Prismacolor pencils for sure, especially if you are on a budget since Arteza does sales fairly often iirc.
So compared to prismacolors would you say expert is the same or better?

I noticed the way you hold your pencil and are wearing a brace. I have carpal tunnel and was diagnosed in my teens. I found out I've been holding my pencil wrong my whole life causing extra pain, a little bump on the finger my pencil tests and perm damage to hand. Correcting it could help. Look into it. I'm an artist as well and have found tho annoying, re learning to hold my pencils I've been able to preform longer and have more line control👍 it changed my life when I found out maybe it could be a help to you❤️

Not sure if you reviewed this after all the drama in the art community! Apparently, the expert ones bleed if you apply water over them (which is not supposed to happen to professional grade pencils!). There are theories that they changed the formula they had in previous years and it’s causing that issue. Also, if they are gonna smudge with water, many artist said they prefer to buy the watercolor pencils, which react the same but are cheaper. Overall, artists this year have not been happy with Arteza’s pencils, as there’s no reliability with the formula/pigment. So that’s something to keep in mind if you’re going to spend your hard earned coin 💰
I think the most important difference is do you have a round spot on the shelf or a square one.
I spoke with arteza and they said the only difference in them is the size and shape of the pencil.

I love your review videos This! This was very helpful! I've been curious about the Arteza color pencils for a while. I've been using Prismacolors for a while now so I hesitated to try a new brand. (Though I have been working on trying to get the Faber Castel polychromos but oh the price! 🙈)
We don't have a ton of exp with colored pencils but its always exciting to try new things! Also I feel ur pain about the price of new art supplies LOL
Forever here with my 24 pencil set of prismacolor :( I know it's enough but would love different shades too lmao. Steph should make a video of making new colors with limited colored pencils! I mean since she likes swatching and all :p Also, curious about those stack of pastel colored boxes behind her....
I actually prefer the carandache colored pencils to prisma, just because they are SOO soft and pigmented, I just think they are the best for me.
@@graaceie I have caran d’ache in a watercolor set plus the bicolors, which I know you can still use dry, but they are too expensive so I don’t dare to use them for anything than water coloring 😰. I think the only normal one I have is the blue sketcher and you’re right, they have a nice feel. But not everyone can afford a set.. hence why I only have a 24 prisma set 😅🤦🏻♀️ halllp

I personally hate triangle barrles. It makes them so difficult and uncomfortable to hold for me. Of course, I hold my pensils weird.

I bought the Arteza premium pencils set of 72 like 2 years ago and they come in a tin here in the US. I just looked at the listing and it seems that they have changed them to the expert ones. I also have a set of the Prismacolor Premier set of 72 and a 24 pack. I'm a novice at using colored pencils but they both seem equal to me. I think the Prismacolor ones are probably better quality in regard with light-fastness.

the expert one seem to have a bot more pigment to them, but not enough to make a huge difference
Some of the expert ones are from bad batches.. when the get wet they bleed. I got two sets from bad batches but use them as long as nowhere near water or the likes of zest blender. Oh and edit just to say other than that I am a big fan of arteza products.
If you can get the "Premium"/Student-Grade ones on sale (I got them for $14), then I definitely think they're worth it for casual drawing and whatnot, but if there's only a $5 difference, then you might as well get the Expert ones. Also, those were awesome drawings! :D
Also, forgot to mention it, but yeah, the triangular shape is a huge bonus for me, as someone with weird fingers who has trouble gripping onto pencils with circular barrels.
Off topic but I feel i need to share. I had a dream with you guys in it last night where I reached through the screen on a twitch stream and threw my backpack into your house and then was like "oh no, I need my backpack back!" I tried to text you guys that I needed my backpack back but my phone only texted egg emojis and you guys kept texting eggs back and I was like "no, but I need my backpack not eggs!" I never got my backpack back. It was quite the emotional roller coaster.
