This music video is a single released in advance from their 6th studio album "Dark Passion Play" (2007), then together with Anette Olzon, the 2nd female singer of the band, and Marco Hietala, bassist and singer. About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners. Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory): " Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland. Tuomas Holopainen [pronounced Tuo-mas], the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [Sami Vanska was the bassist of the band starting with their 2nd studio album, he was with them until 2001. Then Marco Hietala was bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least. Then in May 2021 Jukka Koskinen [pronounced Yukka] became the bassist of the band, for the Human :II: Nature tour - and recently, the band announced he became a permanent member] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen [he also recorded the bass lines for their 1st studio album]. Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen [pronounced Yukka] is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition. Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen [pronounced Tarr-ya] (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals) - you just heard her. She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile). There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). Nightwish' Female vocalist: Tarja Turunen 1996-2005 mainly operatic ; Anette Olzon, (Sweden) 2007-2012 poppy, you just reacted to her, Floor Jansen (The Netherlands) 2012 -> versatile. Male vocals Marko Hietala 2001-2021, now on solo career. Co-writer of some Nightwish songs. He started in 1986 with the band Tarot. Many bands have wanted him as a guest vocalist. Never with the current vocalist Floor. Floor and Tarja have always been in good terms. But I don't think Nightwish would perform the song anymore anyway. It's not relevant anymore, let bygones be bygones. Nightwish has another hate song, "Master Passion Greed", about Tarja's husband/manager. They have never performed the song live. One of the heaviest if not the heaviest song by Nightwish, vocals by Marko. I guess you'll get comments about this song, saying it's not the best song to start with getting to know Nightwish. Don't worry, how could you have known. But I hope you'll continue to explore Nightwish. They have many different kinds of songs, heavy, metal, folky, Celtic, ballads..., and many instruments - played by Troy Donockley the multi-instrumentalist from England - you will not often hear in symphonic metal. For an American, your pronunciation of Finnish names is surprisingly good.

Hi there, whilst this may be one of the more commercially popular tracks, it's not necessarily one which a Nightwish fan would suggest to you when you;re getting started with the band. Most Nightwish fans would state that (A) Live is better than their studio/Music videos where available. (B) For a starter, look at the official live tracks that Nightwish put out. The Wacken 2013 concert in particular is a good starting place. Depending upon your slant, I'd probably suggest either Story Time or Romanticide. Kind Regards From The UK.
Not sure if someone else has mentioned, but this song was sung by the Second Nightwish singer Annette Olzon. This isn't one done by Floor. :) To be fair, Nightwish does VERY few "Angry" tracks, Once you've listened to a few, and got their "vibe" you'll soon see that.

The way Tarja was fired from the band she co-founded and helped to define the genre of symphonic metal was so wrong. They handed her an open letter after a concert and told her not to open it until the next day. The band got a huge backlash as she was considered a national treasure of Finland. Tarja has a wonderful solo career and she and Marko(who is no longer with the band either) are touring together and they released a song called "Left on Mars". I am sure you will get "the nightwish army" and their "general" who will give you a very long copy and paste comment that he gives to all reactors about being "summoned" by your quest. He will tell you all about Floor. I have listened to this band since 03 and for me, the first 2 eras are my favorite. Try the song "Slaying the Dreamer" live from End of an Era to see and hear Tarja and Marko please. And as always a great reaction Sir!!!
Unlucky choice. It is not a bad song, but not the best one and you should know the background. Like this is the second frontwoman out of three and the third one has never sung this song. It is a song from the album "Dark Passion Play" which includes the song where the keybordist and the mastermind of this band commits suicide (everything including epitaphy), but this is not suitable as the first song. Anyway, if you want some power metal, take, for example, "Devil and the Deep Dark ocean" from the second album "Oceanborn".
Yeah its important with Nightwish that you look up who is the singer. Coz it is very very very different depending on which singer is in the band. Personally, I don't like Anette. Not a bad singer, but its not Nightwish vibes for me. It has to be Tarja or Floor. And frankly, I am used to the Tarja sound xD Even though everyone loves Floor. Floor is awesome, for sure! But Nightwish will always be Tarja to me.
