- I bought the car in 1978 or 1979 and some people say it looks like a real hoons car and it probably does. I have plenty of memories driving it around in my early years most good and some not so good probably more exciting would be a better word.
I remember coming up behind an HK Monaro 186...yep not the most desirable engine... but this was the 90s and the car looked as if it had just been driven from the showroom... There was an old guy driving it... I stayed behind it for a while admiring the view... then overtook s.l.o.w.l.y to admire the view then admired it from my rear view mirror before letting it overtake... it really was immaculate...In my view the best bodyshape of all Monaros... and there have been some great ones.
I remember when I first bought mine and took it on its first long drive, it was a really hot day and I was on a highway travelling under the speed limit just making sure the engine would handle the heat. Then a policeman on a motor cycle pulled along side me and indicated to pull over which I did. He looked around the car then asked me, why am I driving so slow, which I told him the reason but I suspect he just wanted a good look at the car. Cheers!
@@sepsadventures heh heh heh heh... most likely.

You are dead right those were the days, I have some great memories hooning around doing things in it that now days would get the car impounded. Good luck with your build they take time but worth it in the end.Cheers!
A good time capsule of the 70's. Thank you for sharing.
Glad you like it and thanks for your comment.Cheers!
I paid $1500 for a Warwick Yellow Bathurst 327 complete with black strip. Purchased it in 1981 off of a farm. Tyres were flat, interior was ok but there was red bull dust in every crevice. The body was ok as well. Had these bloody horrible chromies on it. Had a Holley 4 barrel a top. The bloke I bought it from insisted that the motor was worked. He’d spent $1500 just on the motor. Pumped the tyres up, only the front brakes worked. I got it home on a temporary registration and cleaned it top to bottom, got thee rear brakes working and purchased some decent rubber second hand out of the paper, changed all the fluids and took it to a local tuner of some repute that was next door to where I worked. I remember his words when I picked it up, ‘You have no idea what you got there.’
It was a rainy Friday and on the way home the slightest touch on the loud peddle had the wheels spinning. Saturday morning I blew three quarters of my wages half filling the 45 gallon tank. I just cruised around wanting the petrol to last as long as possible enjoying that massive deep rumble. The rain held off and the roads dried out. At this stage I hadn’t really floored it.
I pulled up at the lights at the corner of Woodville Rd and Port Rd, Woodville. Next to me pulled up a canary yellow SLR5000. The Torana was way lighter but I thought I’d blow a couple of dollars of juice and we both waited for the green light.
I dumped the clutch, the rubber bit the tarmac and Monaro’s front end reached for the sky. I was pinned to the seat but grabbed second and the arse got sideways. Third had the Pos i tracs giving a little girl squeal. I forgotten completely about the 5000. It was a smudge in the rear view mirror. I had felt nothing like that power ever and would not again until a ride in a 340 Charger.
What a great trip down memory lane and I can 100% relate to it. Racing other cars and it sounded like a thunder storm with straight through sports mufflers. That was an era that holds many memories of my youth. Really appreciate your comment. Cheers!
Actually thats a HT grille! Great car mate I did the exact same thing in 1980 I was 17 I bought a HK GTS 186s & few months later I bought a 327 GTS but I couldn't keep them & really gave them away for nothing! Awesome Story!!
I must start to proof watch my vids a few extra times, I have had a few comments correcting me on the grille. Back in the day they weren’t worth much and they were bought and sold accordingly. If only we knew what we know now back then, hey. Glad you liked the vid. Cheers!
We have the hk ht hg nationals down around Queenscliff and the Bellarine the weekend after Melbourne cup 2023, you should come down for a look. At this stage we have about 30 Monaros entered.
It’s a little far from where I am now but appreciate your suggestion. Cheers!
Hey Sep, how much did you pay for it back in the day ? What happened to it ? It must be worth a lot of money now ! I hope you made some good money when you sold it - great looking car !
I have a nice photo of it in my garage and still own it in my dreams.Cheers!
@@sepsadventures nice Holden hk Monaro 327 why did you sold it for you shouldn’t sold it
@@HOLDEN921 Unfortunately my career took me down a path that required me to sell it. But I still have the memories and a 1973 HQ station wagon that my father bought brand new. Cheers!
That was a HT grille you had in it
Yes,I have been corrected on that one, my mistake, thanks, hope you still enjoyed the vid. Cheers!
Can we hear the 327
Unfortunately I do not have any video of the car running and no longer own it but I can tell you it had straight through sports mufflers and a racing spec engine which sounded like a full blown race car. I had been reported for excessive noise on a number of occasions by the general public requiring the car to be tested by the EPA and yes it failed. It sounded great. Cheers!
@Seps Adventures Love the 327. Had a worked one in a bedford van back in the day. Awesome stuff 👌
HT grille not HG.
Yes my mistake, hope you enjoyed the vid. Cheers!
Yeah you really know your grills cause that HT grill is the funniest looking HG one I've ever seen
My mistake and you know what, I can not believe that I thought it was a HG grille right to this day, thanks for your comment.Cheers!
