The Clarks (from Pittsburgh, PA) - Born Too Late (live) @ Mr Smalls Theatre in Millvale, PA If you like it buy the CDs or DVD!: www.clarksonlin... www.myspace.com...
In an alternate universe, the Clarks are filling stadiums and Bruce Springsteen is playing clubs and building motorcycles. As for underrated bands, check out the Saw Doctors - even better, and barely known.
i really dont see why they arent more popular than they already are. I love their music, and when i saw them everything was absolutely perfect. A hell of a lot better than most stuff played on the radio today
Vincent, will you teach me how to paint? Teresa, will I ever be a saint? And John, I really think your songs are great I was born too late And William, will you teach me how to write? And Cassius, will you show me how to fight? And Thomas, hey, I think I see the light I was born tonight I've had a hard time leaving this town I've been losing everything that I've found I'm gonna search the sky, kiss the ground Build it up and tear it back down And Jimi, show me how you play that thing And Elvis, will I ever be a king? And Jerry, all the joy and love you bring I was born to sing Martin Luther King, show me the way Jesus, Buddha, teach me how to pray Christopher, I think I see the bay I was born today I've had a hard time leaving this town I've been losing everything that I've found I'm gonna search the sky, kiss the ground Build it up and tear it back down I've had a hard time leaving this place I've been counting all the lines on my face I'm gonna curse the sky, hit the ground What goes up comes tumbling down Tumbling down
You people wanna know why they never went national? Because they all have families and dont like to leave them. They like just playin in the few states they play in. They are proud of where they came from and they make enough money playin around here to support themselves. They dont need to go national to great. They're already great :D
I grew up about 40 miles from Pitts....haven't lived back there in close to 40 years. I LOVE PA. I MISS PA...HOME SWEET HOME. AND I LOVE THE CLARKS AND I LOVE THIS SONG.
I still cry over this song and I'm 56. My deceased father loved Van Gogh and named me after him. My name is the first word of the song and a deceased friend of mine would always greet me when we'd run into each other with,"Vincent will you teach me how to paint"......
Saw them in Kittaning last night, they were super. Cannot figure out how they have all of these hits yet seem to never bust out nationally even after Letterman appearance...I guess that is good for us here locallt, though. I think that the lead guitarist is really something to hear...what talent and such a tight band!
I cannot believe that the rest of the country has not embraced them, especially after appearing on Letterman. But why didn't they sing one of their big hits on the show?
the clarks have some of the most amazing guitar melodies i've ever heard, and them being from the 'burgh only makes things better! GO PENS, CRUSH THE WINGS!!!
Played a few shows with them in the early 90’s when I was in Dharma Sons. They were on a completely different level. Grew up with Rob, well, same High School and I even remember seeing him in talent shows and he was pro then.
The first time I heard these guys they just blew me away! I love Scott's voice. He's right, he was born to sing. I agree that these guys should be national stars, but I'm glad they're not. When you find a good thing you want to keep it close.
Love the Clarks...I copped every lick I know from two guys - Dave Brown from the Gathering Field, and Rob James from the Clarks. I've heard those licks or similar being played by other guitarists, but Rob & Dave were the most direct influences and I heard them playing first! Haha. Long LIve the Clarks!
I watched you back in the day. Jeff Warnick was a very close friend. I met ya’ll back in 85 or 86 partying at Theta Xi. Loved you then, love you still. Im always very proud to say I know you. Also got in a fight while on a date with Brian Crouch somewhere in the Burg when some stupid girl tried to move in front of me. Pretty sure we were in Station Square. Not sure though.
I saw them open for Chris Duarte in 1998 in Spartanburg, SC. Never understood why they didn't go bigger. Actually, I understand- crap sells, and their music was good.
Famous Pittsburghers:Andy Worhol,Andrew Carnegie,George Westinghouse,Harry Heinz, Perry Como,Stephen Foster,Henry Mancini, Christina Aguilera,George Ferris,Jonas Salk,Johnny Unitas,Honus Wagner,Joe Namath, Joe Montana,Dan Marino,Mike Ditka,Barry Alvarez,Tony Dorsette,Michael Keaton,Gene Kelly,Sharon Stone,Shirley Jones, Jeff Goldblum,Fred"Mr"Rogers,Dennis Miller,Rob Marshall. 1st Radio and TV Stations,Big Mac,Bananna Split and Polio Vaccene invented in the Burgh.
I must say The Clarks are one my favorite bands and this is such a great song. Stuff like this makes me so glad I moved back home to northern WV so I can chill in Pittsburgh whenerver the notion strikes me.
Yep TD is from Alliquippa, I think the Quipps named their football staduim afrer him. Marino went to Central Catholic and Pitt, too bad the Steelers passed him in the draft, they may have had 4 more Lombardis' with him.
Most of the members are from the Connellsville area. However, of course how many people in the United States ever heard of Connellsville. So you pick the biggest city near you to call home.
Romero - born in NYC 1940. ...you were maybe thinking of John A. (Jackie) Russo, wrote the screenplay for Night of the Living Dead. HE was born in the Pittsburgh area - probably Clairton.
hey don't forget: joe namath, jim kelly, mike ditka, bill cowher from the NFL rocco mediate(greensburg) and jim furyk( uniontown) from pro golf. so many more.
pens rule they are taking it all the way this year. BritIronRebel i love your videios but if you could get the clarks song rockstar that would be great. Ty
there just damn good. i stumbled upon them when i was in culinary school in pittsburgh at the point. it was a great concert..on e of my favorite memories
saw these guys for the first time in Erie, 3-31-12. I was absolutely blown away! I'm 51, played in a few bands in the early-mid '80's, THESE GUYS WERE GREAT!!!
The Clarks are an amazing group and they should be expanding their horizons beyond the Pittsburgh market. I'm in Cincinnati and just found out about them from the Powerpopoverdose blog. Guys, come to Cincinnati! We've got three casinos needing acts, six major venues in the metro area, clubs all over the area! You're welcome here too! Please, take Ohio by storm! (and not just Youngstown)
@sarahxannexgraft Are you sure they're from Dunbar? I seriously doubt their from Dunbar down by Connellsvile. It says they're from Pittsburgh on biography. Dunbar is still a distance away from Pittsburgh. How I know this and these places is because I'm from western Pennsylvania as well. I live in Indiana County which is a farther distance from Pittsburgh then Dunbar has but still. Oh ya awesome video. They were awesome live at the private rosebud mining Christmas party a few years ago :)
I worked at Springs and Scott's dad worked there at the same time. Maybe they didn't live in Connelsville at the time but pretty sure Scot grew up there.
@drewbrax1 the lead singer, Scott Blasey, is the only one who grew up in Connellsville. He lived across the street from me. His parents still do. The nicest people ever, and Scott is too.
Is Scott's dad still alive? Kinda think I know the answer but that guy was so freaking nice. I remember going into the staff cafeteria at 7 springs and him telling us all to watch Letterman that night because they were going to play.
Don't forget to give some love to the Penguins too! We've got some of the best in the world skating for Pittsburgh...and it'll soon be playoff time at the Igloo. GO PENS!
I love this band... I'm in pittsburgh and my mom's friend knew the lead singer!!! He came to her funeral, she died of cancer, no lie!!!! I'm dead serious..!!
I think this might be my second-favorite Clarks song, and one of my all-time favorite songs!! Some of the nicest guys you'll ever meet if you ever get a chance!! They went to college with my cousin and they played my family reunions for 10 years straight!! One year they played 2 songs saying they were going to release one of them as their single for the album they had just cut! They asked which of the two songs we liked, so I asked my grandfather which one he liked, and he said the second one! So Scott said, we're going with the second one! And here's where the story takes a shity turn, it ended up being a big hit, and I was too drunk to remember what it was!! 🤦🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️ Sorry!❤
I know the posters on here are going to slaughter me for this, but when I was up at Penn State, one of the local radio stations up there gave me a free ticket to see them in Altoona at the Railroaders Museum. Problem was I didn't have a way to get to Altoona :( and I've been ashamed I didn't find a way to get down there. Discovered these guys on 'DVE about a month ago BTW.
Cool I didnt realize Malone, also someone remembered Batch too. His family was from the South Side I believe, I think his family worked at J&L. A true steel man. I hope more gets added, the Burgh is a really great place with a lot of pride and history.

@johnnykov I love this band too but there are hundreds of very good bands that never had more than a hit or two or never made it outside their region, etc. etc. I choose to look at it as though I know about a rare jewel very few others ever heard of...
i saw the clarks in uniontown pa ( home county of scott and a few others in the band ) years and years ago, was great then and they are still rocking! love it!
i'm surprise that the clarks dont tour the whole states this year they are just touring parts of PA i saw the clarks live couple weeks ago they where amazing
Hands down, the most underrated band of all time
I saw Scott preform last night. It was awesome!
In an alternate universe, the Clarks are filling stadiums and Bruce Springsteen is playing clubs and building motorcycles. As for underrated bands, check out the Saw Doctors - even better, and barely known.
The last time I heard them live was over 20 years ago at Mahoney's in Uniontown. They still sound great, and their music still resonates today.
One of the most well written songs Ive ever heard...
couldn't have said it better
i really dont see why they arent more popular than they already are. I love their music, and when i saw them everything was absolutely perfect. A hell of a lot better than most stuff played on the radio today
Just saw the Clarks play today at a local park! They are still just as good as they were back then!
Spotify recommended this song to me a couple weeks ago... Been addicted since. This song is perfection.
Firepants20 Spotify did the same for me!
They should be in the rock hall of fame!
I love this band..... and their from Pittsburgh, which makes them 100 times better in my opinion
Vincent, will you teach me how to paint?
Teresa, will I ever be a saint?
And John, I really think your songs are great
I was born too late
And William, will you teach me how to write?
And Cassius, will you show me how to fight?
And Thomas, hey, I think I see the light
I was born tonight
I've had a hard time leaving this town
I've been losing everything that I've found
I'm gonna search the sky, kiss the ground
Build it up and tear it back down
And Jimi, show me how you play that thing
And Elvis, will I ever be a king?
And Jerry, all the joy and love you bring
I was born to sing
Martin Luther King, show me the way
Jesus, Buddha, teach me how to pray
Christopher, I think I see the bay
I was born today
I've had a hard time leaving this town
I've been losing everything that I've found
I'm gonna search the sky, kiss the ground
Build it up and tear it back down
I've had a hard time leaving this place
I've been counting all the lines on my face
I'm gonna curse the sky, hit the ground
What goes up comes tumbling down
Tumbling down

I grew up about 40 miles from Pitts....haven't lived back there in close to 40 years. I LOVE PA. I MISS PA...HOME SWEET HOME. AND I LOVE THE CLARKS AND I LOVE THIS SONG.
Bonnie Schoeneman I was born in West Virginia and still live in West Virginia not too far from pa or Pittsburgh only about 1/2 hours
Once a southwest Pennsylvanian, always a southwest Pennsylvanian
Aliquippa for life for me. The clarks represents western PA.
@@jesseedwards3944 I live between Aliquippa and Moon.❤️
You can take the girl outta the 'Burgh, but you can't take the 'Burgh outta the girl. 🖤💛
IUP pride anyone?
I still cry over this song and I'm 56. My deceased father loved Van Gogh and named me after him. My name is the first word of the song and a deceased friend of mine would always greet me when we'd run into each other with,"Vincent will you teach me how to paint"......

These guys should be stars!
They are.
In SW PA but not nationally.
Very good group, I have seen them before in concert. Were are they now?
Still playing around the Burgh and releasing new CDs.
the clarks have some of the most amazing guitar melodies i've ever heard, and them being from the 'burgh only makes things better! GO PENS, CRUSH THE WINGS!!!
13 years there are still people from the 'Burgh listening.
Still Jamming in 2024~~!!
Played a few shows with them in the early 90’s when I was in Dharma Sons. They were on a completely different level. Grew up with Rob, well, same High School and I even remember seeing him in talent shows and he was pro then.

This is the ultimate summer time band to listen to
Born Too Late, Better Off Without You,Cigarette,Shimmy Low, Caroline, Mercury, Snowman. That's just off the top of my head.
these guys are genious...why aren't they famous????
This is one of the best songs EVER! I have the lyrics printed and framed.
Another clear hit song that just wasn't for some reason.
One hell of a band! So shamefully underrated
I heard this song on a WV radio station today and it immediately took Me back to Pittsburgh's south side.
I watched you back in the day. Jeff Warnick was a very close friend. I met ya’ll back in 85 or 86 partying at Theta Xi. Loved you then, love you still. Im always very proud to say I know you. I lived in Greer for a while. Campobello before that. Came from Boswell and now live 5 miles from the Flight 93 memorial.
Tell reactors to listen!
Can hardly believe it. I moved from da "Burgh" and nobody knows who this band is!!!!
I live in Morgantown and they come to 123 sometimes.
90s kids here and I was shocked to learn this later in life as well!
I'm kinda glad they are western PA's secret. It's more special
Btw if you like this song, check out "Penny on the Floor" by The Clarks.

I dont care where a good band is from, as long as they sound great. You people make too big a deal about them being from your home town. Nobody cares.
saw these guys for the first time in Erie, 3-31-12. I was absolutely blown away! I'm 51, played in a few bands in the early-mid '80's, THESE GUYS WERE GREAT!!!

I love the idea of a really good rock band saying no to the traditional touring model. If you want to see them live, come to the region.
Their management sucks!
