Did this happen during a lift ?? If so the operator should take the blame.... He alone pulls the levers and though it does look like he's not into the wind I'm sure it's choppy and if it's blowing 30+ he could shut the lift down ( Union or non- union)
I dont know if he was making a lift at the time it happened but he was making lifts that day I heard, it was really wind that whole day. It was atleast steady 30s all day. It was facing into the wind and I believe he had it high boomed when it went over backwards. Was definitely his fault
Rode by site often this rig had at least 200ft of main and would be parked with boom left high like 75 80%,with that angle an height all it would take is microburst wind blowin just right on boom an backover she goes, rigs with lattice should never be shutdowned an left without lowering at least under55,60%,say for reasons had to leave high, you then hookoff main ĺine tight to something fixed an secure an wind cant lift boom, this is were experiance comes in operator an contractor got some here
Can anyone tell me what the likely repair time on this machine will be or will they just get another barge mounted crane in to replace this one, and if so what is the turn around time for that?
It would appear that the boom was flipped back over the counter weights so the crane was not free to weather vane at the time of the accident. Expensive short and long term, but no body hurt or killed apparently.
+cranedude07 What was he thinking? Was he watching his instruments and flags? What is the shut down wind speed there? Someone has some fast talking to do after all we are talking about a strong gusty wind here, 40 to 45 mph comes out at @ 64 to 72 kph so you know its windy.
Son-of -a... That's gonna leave a mark :)
All operators need to research "Big Blue" and this won't happen. If my boss told me pick or get fired... Goodbye!!!
right!
+cranedude07 was that by you on I-65 in, Louisville?
+cranedude07 I just bought a used, but mint, 1:50 Link Belt 3200 All Terrain for $200 and free shipping. Bad ass!!!
+craneinsane USA yup
+craneinsane USA nice, but the outriggers are garbage. plastic and the screw Jacks to attach the counterweights are difficult to turn, on mine anyway

Don't know why they can't just lower the boom if they know it was going to be windy.
bosses probably telling him to pick something or be fired.
@@cranedude07 they're not interested in safety probably
Oops... What a mess.

op had it high boomed, swung around into the wind, with winds gusting 40-45mph, sent the boom backwards onto itself

+Mark Fryer should have never been turned on. unless to boom down and away from the wind, they are saying it was making lifts the while morning.
It was high boomed, and the wind indicator did not work at the time.
that guy Don't no he was. Doing
