Hard to believe historic Pike Place Market was nearly demolished in 1971 because the city council and business leaders wanted to replace it with “luxury apartment towers and a high-rise hotel, upscale offices and a seven-story parking garage.” We’re lucky the people of Seattle voted to preserve it.
We lived in Market Place North for 5 years prior to Covid. It was insane to live in PPM. Our favorite moments were waking up at the crack of dawn , getting a SB coffee, and taking our Golden Retrievers around the market while people were setting up. They were minor celebrities while we lived there. 😊 Also, entertaining as our townhome deck was right over the water. It was so beautiful. It was the best of times and ,also , the worst of times. You are also in the middle of so many scary things as we made friends with people that were in desperate need of help with drugs , alcohol, and mental illness. We could not turn a blind eye to it and supported many of the institutions that helped out. All cities have problems. Living in PPM was not easy if you care about people in need. This is our personal experience. Downtown Seattle is so unique and a treasure , but , the harsh reality is there too. 😢
Seattle has always had a big drug problem, but you couple that with the US in the last 10 years thanks to the invasion of meth and other things causing mental health issues, then it really needs help. Unfortunately these big blue cities on the coasts seem to think its some sort of far-right viewpoint to clean the streets up, save people from themselves, and protect tax payers from crime.
I had no idea the vendors move around the market and they vie every day for their spot. Absolutely fascinating...thank you for sharing all that inside scoop!!!
I watch every luxury/normal real estate video I can on YT from billionaire homes to regular ones and your channel is the BEST one. You clearly put in so much work and it makes a huge difference!
Woah definitely wasn’t expecting to see someone from my childhood when I stumbled across this video. What a pleasant surprise to see the kind of person you’ve grown into. Times sure have changed. Best of luck with your business!
Monica, loved watching this vlog, it had everything and we live in Port Townsend and love going to Pike Market and what you shared just makes you want to get on the Bainbridge ferry and visit it again and again! Really terrific!
Monica…loved Pike’s Peak.. while on vacation there I would wake up everyday and head to Pikes peak for fresh fruits and the Flowers are so amazing… one of my favorite city’s.. would love to see more videos like this💕
I lived there for 12 years and Seattle is one of the most beautiful cities!! The weather is not something that I enjoyed, but I have the best memories. Greetings from the sunny California.
It's been over seventeen years since I visited Pikes Place Market. I loved it - the flying fish, the arts & crafts.l, flowers and food. We had lunch at a fabulous seafood restaurant. We took a tour of Seattle visiting Madrona Hills and Queen Anne (I think that's the name) neighborhoods. I got a kick out if the troll under the bridge! I wonder if it's still there. I'm overdue for a visit to PPM and Seattle. 🐟 🦞 🪵 🌻💦 🌲🌤 🌧
Worked street markets for years, best pitches are by the entrance, punters see your goods coming in, if they don't buy coming in, they can decide to buy before leaving. It's handy they have overnight storage so you don't need to buy a van. Should have asked the daily price for the stall
Monica, this was a great video. I loved the market and learning about your friends business,. The tour of the condo was also really fun. How fun would it be to live that close to everything. I would never eat at home. I love your videos, so well done!
I've watched many videos about Seattle but I loved this video so much. You well done, specially you commentary and preview about condo. I admire your friend Camilla and her work, tell her my greetings please! ❤🙈😂
Thanks for taking us behind the scenes at the Market! Helps me to understand what the vendors are thinking about with their business. Need to visit again and experience the new overlook.
The fact that there is already an excessive amount of demand awaiting its absorption, despite how everyone is frightened and calling the crash, is another reason why it is less likely to occur that way. 2008 saw no one, at least not the broad public, making this forecast, as I'll explain below. The ownership rate was noted to have peaked in 2004 in the other comment. Having previously peaked in the second quarter of 2020, we are currently at the median level. Between 2008 and 2012, it dropped by 3%, and by the second quarter of 2020, it had dropped from 68 to 65.
To balance out your real estate holdings, I suggest investing in equities. If you're cautious, even the worst recessions can present fantastic buying opportunities. Additionally, volatility can produce fantastic short-term purchase and sell opportunities. This is not financial advise, but you should buy immediately away because money isn't king right now!
Yes I concur, I've been talking to an advisor for long now, mostly because I lack the knowledge and energy to deal with these ongoing market circumstances. I made more than $220K during this slump, demonstrating that there are more aspects of the market than the average individual is aware of. Having an investing counselor is now the best line of action, especially for those who are close to retiring.
I'm intrigued by this. I've searched for financial advisors online but it's kind of hard to get in touch with one. Okay if I ask you for a recommendation?
Certainly, there are a handful of experts in the field. I've experimented with a few over the past years, but I've stuck with ‘’Grace Adams Cook” for about five years now, and her performance has been consistently impressive. She’s quite known in her field, look-her up.
Great video of your friends business at Pike Place market and the apartment tour. I just moved into downtown and love the buildings, businesses and people! Thank you for sharing!
Love your videos and I LOVE that condo!!! It's always a happy day when you post a video and this one was extra special with all the behind the scenes views. I even ordered an 8 pack of hair wraps.
@@monicachurchrealtor I will! I didn’t get to Seattle this year, so I got to bring Seattle colors to me. Love watching your life and had to support such a cool woman owned business. I think I’d love to live her life!!!
I always love the pike place market. I went there so much when I lived on first hill in the 90’s. I walked all over downtown almost every day. One place you noted that I’m so happy to see is still there is the Alibi Room. My best friend and I went there a lot. One cool thing about that is they had Movie scripts there you could read while you were there. I wonder if you noticed if they still do that.
Alibi Room is better than I would have expected. Seattle has a reputation for not having the greatest pizza, but I loved Alabi Room's. A friend came to visit a few weekends ago and we stopped there to eat before catching some improv across the alley. Also, you may not remember but you were involved in us buying our house in Shoreline in 2020, so thank you and I hope you're doing great. That condo looks cool, I'm sure it'll sell fast.
I totally got a few of those hair peices when I was 9. Right around the time I got those sand stuffed lizzards which you can still find there! Even though so much has changed with the new extension and overlook park, so much has stayed the same and I love that.
This was such a cool video to watch! I loved getting to learn about the BTS of working at the market. I visited Seattle last year and fell in love. My dream would be to buy a place in each one of my favorite cities so I could just hop on a flight and get there in a flash ❤
From a consumer's perspective, they need to be in the same booth each time. If it's somewhere we go regulalary, we will know what to find where. If it's not always in the same spot, I doubt many people will take the time to hunt it down the day they actually need/want it.
@@nancydineen6797 Most if not all of these shops are little nic-nacks as showcased. There's certain food stops such as honey, saffron, or other weird spice themed pop up stores but there are no hot food/pastry vendors that rotate, they all have their specific storefronts. There's a farm to table meat vendor that rotates and that's the closest thing I've seen to perishables rotating.
For not well established places that didn't require specific infrastructure (like restaurants or larger stores) it's not feasible for them to all be in the same spot every time. Many things are seasonal, and the schedules of different shops vary wildly. You couldn't even plan some of them a month out.
Hey Monica, your content is definitely amazing. And the way you show the houses shows your skills very well. And yes, I have noticed a few things that will keep people watching your videos longer.
