I love hearing the Kiwis accent in nearly every aspect of this sport. A country of 5 million who punch well above their weight. It is an international sport and seems to be at once very competitive and a community, I love that about the sport too. No harm in a little patriotism though lol

I love technology... Will it be able to discern the height of the wind?
Great tech idea. Presentation would be MUCH better if they used a matrix of arrows (fat is relatively strong, thin is relatively slow) pointing in the direction of the wind at that particular point every 10 meters. That way we could see the WIND GUSTS and the WIND SHIFTS. The current presentation ONLY shows the GUSTS so we have no idea what the WIND SHIFTS are until the boats actually sail into them and change their headings.

This will be awesome to see in the TV coverage, but what stops someone on shore from watching it and telling the sailors where to go for the stronger wind? 🤔

I guess communications between shore and boat are not allowed, except for security reasons
It's called technology... Quite simple to detect communication between two points
There's probably a delay between the broadcast and live event
These sailors are that good, they will see most of this in real time by the water surface. If you had to wait 20-30secs for someone to relay it back, you've already missed it, also due to the turning delays in the boat.
Hope they can sell this tech on to every tricky airport with windshear or wake turbulence problems.

I hope they can put this on the TV along with speeds and distance as a constant to see on the TV instead of flipping through the distance and speed

How do you prevent the shaw teams relaying this TV info to the boat crew? They could use all sorts of covert methods to send this information.

What speed do the colours represent and could it show wind direction too? I cant find a legend , sorry.

I keep seeing this shown on the race videos, but the commentators don't tell you what the colours mean, and it's not explained in this video either. Like many other people who've commented, we need an explanation.
When you see a puff on the water with your own eyes, it looks darker than the surrounding water. So, should puffs be lighter or darker than the lulls on screen?
But the boats don’t seem to speed up or slow down in alignment with the puffs and holes … is it actually real ?
Hopefully it is not as glitchy as the Sail GP graphics.

Could we please change or explain the colour scheme better? So hard to know if it’s a gust or a lull in lighter winds.
It feels as though static bounds have been set for wind speed. Instead can we just have it based on average breeze?
I.e in 10km t average a 12 knot gust is green, 15knt is red or something.

It is hard to hear the commentators. Background noise to high.
Please mark the tack the boats are on. Green, red! Then the majority of the rules are simply understood!
You can see that...you can see the boats and the sails. Sails indicate the orientation of the boats relative to the wind ...port and starboard shown by this.

The wind information that we are generating is completely restricted to the television product only.
All the diverse set of skills required for excellence in seamanship are simply gone.
Rewatch the video, the sailors don’t have it, it is only for the TV audience.

@@e-redj Learning you missed a wind shift earlier doesn’t help you, they have to spot it in real time. They have so much telemetry and coaching already, the current wide angle HD video already shows the wind on water well enough for sailors if they watch it afterwards, this new tech simply helps non sailors get an appreciation for what is happening. Watch modern F1, there is so much info available on the broadcast, AC is F1 on the water.
