I’ve been playing guitar for 8 years and you’re entering the best part of learning, it’s so addicting in the beginning and you’ll play for 5-7 hours at a time. Just learn chords and songs at first. Then work on riffs and solos. This is the best time man!

I've played guitar for 3 years now, and the best advice I can give is no matter how many ruts you get stuck in is push through and try getting your pinky as strong as possible because I refused to use my pinky in the beginning and it was only hindering me. So push through, and dont give up

Hey UKOG, as a guitarist who’s been playing for nearly 14 years now, I just want to let you know that it was actually Guitar Hero that got me started with wanting to learn guitar. Don’t be afraid to stream your progress like Randy, it might be a little bit of friendly competition for higher scores as well! My good friend who I used to be in a band with in high school and I always had that friendly competition with each other and we’ve pushed each other to get better every step of the way. We recently put out a video here on UA-cam under the project name Vexaria, with a song we wrote called “The Road Ahead”. Speaking for myself, I practice at least three hours a day every day and I’m clumsy as hell, so don’t get discouraged! Can’t wait to see how much you progress. I’ll give it a year and a half before you learn One in its entirety! 😊🤘

You got this man! Guitar hero is way more useful when it comes to the real thing than people give it credit for. It gives you a very good sense of tempo and it helps you stretch your left hand's fingers. Also, I've teached guitar quite a few times in my life and trust me, most people give up way earlier than the level you're at at the moment. You have a solid foundation!! Cheers man, looking forward to the montages of you learning how to downpick!

I’ve been a fan of guitar hero since I was a kid and I still am to this day. I always wanted to learn guitar, and a few weeks ago, I got a guitar. The same day, I got a pair of kittens. So, I haven’t really touched it. But I told myself, “Hey. You have one now. For whenever you have the drive.”
Maybe I could learn a few things from you. UKOG as a teacher would be a great class. ^w^
I love your positive energy, and I hope you continue to enjoy yourself in the days to come. No matter how far or not far you go with learning the guitar, have fun. Enjoy the journey. It seems to me like you’ve just been doing you, and you’ve been doing good, so keep on going!
But you, me, and all the others here who are eager to learn, well, we’re all students. So no pressure. We’re all noobs together.
Before I ramble any more, I just wanna wish you well. Accomplish the dream we all had growing up with GH, and become a guitar god! Or don’t! Just take care. Keep being you. Later. 🙂

Can't believe this man played One. I like One.
In all seriousness, your chord work was good for a beginner and your picking seemed pretty good too. Advice for getting finger positioning and accuracy that really helped me was practicing basic chords and transitioning between them, scales for dexterity (pentatonic is the first that comes to mind) and learning the basics of music theory to be able to have fun improvising and have it sound good.
    Best of luck George!

Ive bought my guitar last year during the beginning of the lockdown here in Belgium... ive learned to play through youtube videos/lessons but mainly through Rocksmith! For me personally it helps a lot to improve certain aspects of the guitar en it keeps me engaged to keep on playing due to the fact you can jam along with your favorite tracks ... i also suggest to check the site for the custom dlc tracks the community makes. To guide you through the Rocksmith community , you should ask Chainbrain ( UA-cam Twitch ) some stuff because he plays rocksmith as a main thing on his channels! Cheers lad , stay good!

If anything some advice I’d give is to buy new strings if they feel all dirty and old. A set of 9 Gauge or 10’s should do, I’d recommend 9’s though. And when Doing so, to clean the fretboard with some lemon oil from Dunlop. Always have extra guitar pics, not too much just. A good safe amount you’re comfortable with

If you really get into it you can also pickup a drop pedal so you don't need to retune your guitar midstream to play songs in different tunings, which i'm sure you will since you enjoy metal.

as a guitar player that plays rings of saturn songs every day, this is actually really good for just starting. Also maybe try finding a better position for your picking hand because the position youre using in the video looks very uncomfortable (at least to me it does lol). Another thing to keep in mind is that when you pick you want mainly only move your wrist, not your entire arm. I saw you were using mostly your wrist in the video, so keep doing that. Also staying relaxed while playing will make you mess up less. Hope this helps!

  • @Smackattackk
    @Smackattackk 3 роки тому

my man! you will learn fast! I play guitar and guitar hero and since you got rhythm and hand eye coordination you'll be fine. also I'm sure you can hear how songs go and just start with chords E A G F C D ( most popular songs are literally 4 chords G E C D) or any 4 main chords (sometimes 3) and once you get Comfy with playing those Practice power chords but sounds like you have power chords down like how to play them... it's the ones where you bar the frets and have your middle and ring finger on the 4th and 5th string, i know it's weird but the smallest string the high e is the 1st string and the fattest one is the low E (standard tuning) if you wanna go heavy just take the low E (fat string) tune it to a D and you'll be in "Drop D) and just bar the whole fret and it's a "power chord in one" example everlong is played in drop d for example. but yeah basic stuff start off with hope this helps a little more. don't worry about how to read sheet music (ain't worth the headache you'll be fine) and once you get a feel for the chords and stuff start playing along to songs or record your own riffs you come up with and just jam over those. (that's how I practice my scales just record and doodle my friend)
good luck on your journey I am so happy to see you and Randy pick up guitars bevsuse I know you BOTH will be GREAT at them eventually. yes your hands will cramp siemtimes and fingertips will get site and calloused but don't give up keep at it and you'll be rewarded with the feeling of music! I love playing something I've been working on it feels awesome but i honestly can't wait to see your progress and once again you know some good beginner chords and stuff already so getting back into it won't be bad! Good luck and much love brother!

I don't know if this is a tip or advice or whatever, but as a guitar player I'd say if you can eventually master the tones from clean all the way to heavy distorted, then you can become a very flexible player who can play probably pretty much any style on electric guitar. To me that's far more impressive than being able to mindlessly shred all day long. Nothing wrong with shredding, is just if that's only thing you can or want to do then it becomes boring because there's not much emotionally or melodically valuable about just shredding.

-on a real guitar, the frets become increasingly narrower as you ascend the fretboard, making the margin for error increasingly tighter, whereas the Guitar Hero controller's buttons are of uniform width and height, allowing for a much wider margin for error for the player
-on a real guitar, to create a note your finger must apply a precise amount of pressure - not too little or else the string will ring dull, not too much or else it will bend the string and sound out-of-tune. Whereas on the Guitar Hero controller the margin of error for pressure is extremely wide, as any amount of pressure that depresses the button will count as proper note activation.
-On a Guitar Hero controller, the strum bar is stationary, in a fixed location. You only have to move it up and down to pluck notes. On a real guitar, you have to move the position of your entire hand/arm in order to pluck notes. It's actually not so bad for people with wrist problems if you mainly just move your arm rather than your wrist, but I digress.
-on a Guitar Hero controller, strumming is at a fixed height and angle. You can move your hand slightly, but you cannot move the position of the strum bar. Whereas on a real guitar, you can move your hand and forearm into a wide variety of different angles and positions in order to apply different picking techniques. I don't want to go into great detail on this, as there are advantages and disadvantages to this, but essentially this makes the real guitar more complex that the Guitar Hero controller, because certain songs (Cliffs of Dover, notably) require being able to pick precisely and rapidly in different positions, and being able to transition between these positions smoothly and with perfect timing, whereas the Guitar Hero controller makes it unfairly easy by keeping your hand in only one position.
Getting fast speed on guitar will rely 80% on your picking hand and 20% on your fretboard hand.
If there are any other notable differences, they escape my mind at this moment. Perhaps I will remember them later.
I look forward to seeing your progress with time!

Great that you said this George. Hope you can continue to move on from the clone hero stuff going forward if you don't enjoy it anymore. I'll try to be there for the rocksmith streams and maybe I can get motivated to pick up my guitar and finally start learning it myself :)

It does make me sad. So many of my fave players are seemingly dropping away from Clone Hero (subsequently at the same time I have less time for it, just bought a home, that’s a big thing for my age in Australia). But if this is what you need to do, so be it. It should be a good ride. Best of luck UKOG, hopefully you come back to Clone Hero one day, but no pressure
