      Use too much orange flower water and it won't seem special. Use just a little bit every now and then to make it seem like a fancy treat- which it would be for anyone else. When you're as loaded as the Lord and Lady Braybrooke, you have to put effort into making things seem special.

      I have and... vanilla extract is better I've found. Orange flower water is rather common in north african cuisine for instance but I'm no fan personally.

    I made it for a dinner yesterday and it was great. I adapted the recipe a little bit, adding 1 package of Vanilla sugar to the pudding (instead the orange flower water) and I made a raspberry sauce with Port. It was delicious and really easy to prepare. Many thanks for sharing this recipe!!! Brilliant and delicious! :)

    I love how she subtly communicates with modern audiences in a historically acceptable way.       That's the problem with old recipes. They were largely passed down orally by a mother twaching her daughter exactly how they made it, and the written ones were vague on the assumption that you'd OF COURSE play around with the measurements until you were satisfied with it.

      I think orange flower water would be like rose water but with blossoms from an orange tree. Kind of how there's cherry blossom flavoured stuff (popular in Japan and other places around the world, but not as popular in America) but instead it's orange blossom

      @@jocelynecupcake You're exactly right, it is the water from the orange blossom, which is probably related to the orange citrus fruit... Flower waters/extracts are used as natural flavorings for many things. I drunk new Rubicon hibiscus and rose flavoured fizzy drinks the other day.

      이때를 해가 지지 않는 나라로 이미지메이킹하고 실제로도 잘 살았기 때문에 오지게 환상 가지고 있는 사람들이 많은데 환상 와장창 깨트려서 죄송하지만 저때 영국의 아일랜드 대기근, 아편전쟁, 보어전쟁 등을 잊으면 안 되죠~

      I think the whole point is you are supposed to make them and see how it is in real life. Though keeping in mind apples probably taste differently today than they did back then because fruits have been altered over the years
      MRE Crocombes apples were most likely much smaller or much larger than what you see here

    For those of you trying to make this in the United States...
    ~Single cream is 18% fat by volume... You can make single cream by mixing 500 mL whole whipping cream (about 33% fat) and 250 mL of Half n Half (about 10% to 12% fat)
    ~Most gelatine leaves are 3g. Gelatine holds about 10g/ml water per leaf. You can substitute 5 leaves with 15g powder and 50 mL water.
