Bathory is one of the major influences of what became black metal, and those albums are great, especially his first two. But you can't look past his "Viking metal" (or what sounds to me like epic, slowed-down power metal) albums. Nordland, Nordland II, Blood on Ice, Twilight of the Gods... absolute classics. That is my favorite style for Bathory. (Although I must admit, I try to ignore his thrash metal albums, haha).
I still cant wrap my head around Bathory. Sounds simple somtimes but in fact, it is very deep and atmospheric. Its own world in a certain way. Quorthon was a genius, thats old news but even more than that, he still contributes, even after his death. That is a miracle. All my respect. RIP.
Rip quorth still remember the first day I heard a fine day to die i was 15 I was really into thrash metal I didnt really know much about metal at that point I was learning about how the vikings were the first Europeans in North America in school my uncle found this out and gave me some of his old bathory albums man my life was changed after that point I live in Canada that night there was a snow strom so i went out in the snow storm let the music hit me made me feel like a viking 😂😂😂 long live bathory 🤘🤘🤘
Thomas "Quorthon" Forsberg, whatever where are you, in heaven or hell, this not even matter, I just here to say: Thank You! For me, Bathory is one of the best metal bands of whole time, I love the entire discography of Bathory, I love so much, you are forever a legend ⛧QUORTHON LIVES!⛧

A certain "Newcastle band"...😂😂😂 Btw I really like One Rode To Asa Bay for some things you rarely would consider to be a thing in extreme metal. First thing is that it really is catchy. Some bands really just make a rumble that goes on for 40 minutes and all you remember is the basic sound but no details like riffs and song structures. That song is quite the opposite. Second thing is that Quorthon is not good at clean singing but he also didn't need to be. This just fits perfectly.👍🏼
Twilight of the Gods is the most epic, wild, free and eternal piece of music i ever heard ( and i say this as a KING CRIMSON 69-74- & MANOWAR-Fan), that takes every beating heart to a higher level of ... remembering very old, important and good things through the music, somehow mirroring in the soul, as if one was also there, hundreds of years ago... or been supported by Odin's own court band! Yea, not afraid to say that! and: pointing to a future that is bright and eternal, and so many true hearts wait for that time to come, for so long already... Life...seems to be made of much more layers than we could imagine, and now, in apocalypse-times, those layers complete very fast... Reaching up to Valhalla, Rainbow Bridge shall appear soon to reunite with our brothers an sisters an ancestors... Hail to Everyone here!
I am actually glad that Quorthon decided to step away from trying to copy Venom, instead go down the Viking path in his lyrics. His own style had more of a presence when he was himself, instead of trying to be a clone. I enjoyed everything from Blood Fire Death onward, more than I did the first three albums.
@@TrendCrush666 His lyrics, song titles, especially the first few albums were literally stolen from Venom. He was a known pathological liar too, even denying who his daddy was until he got caught out. Venom started in 1979, way before Quorthon started Bathory lmao

Copying venom? Venom were just basic thrash while quorthon created the black metal style before he created the viking metal sound

@light-bearer-1 none of this changes the fact venom are just a mediocre thrash band and have never played black metal 😂
isn't this 1992? since he mentions that after the twilight album he hasn't decided to make another album.
