Nothing is ever ordinary in India, especially what should be a plain lime & soda. There are many versions of each drink, and this is just one of them - but probably the best drink we have ordered in Kerala, India so far

salt in drinks is used in places with hot climate, helps with the heat and restores body minerals, for example in sicily you can get salty lemonade in summer
The water in Italy is astonishingly salty too. All those brands like San Benedetto leave a very salty taste.

Fun fact: salt makes you taste sweet flavors more vibrantly, especially sea salt
BLACK SALT. In India they use BLACK SALT. It smells like sulphur because it is salt treated with iron sulphate, and is actually PINK in colour. (It turns dark when wet) But it does the best damn job of pumping up flavour, better than regular salt! This is why Indian grocery stores have that sulphurous aroma. I am 100% addicted to black salt; it makes damn near everything many times more delicious, particularly vegetables.

It’s indeed refreshing! Just to let you know, it’s not Chia seeds, but Basil seeds (also called Sabja seeds ) They look similar, but are quite different. Basil seeds are a prominently used in India, especially during summer when they are added to soda’s like this or some another drinks like Falooda. Sabja seeds are quite inexpensive if compared to Chia seeds).
No one noticed why he added sugar syrup and mango into a lime soda. When lemon, masala salt and soda are enough to prepare a lime soda 😐
