Amazing, presenting Orthodox Judaisim in such an unusual light. So much respect, love and understanding in this program, love for the religious, the irreligious and the non Jew
No Jew is a "spokesman" for Torah Judaism. One could either spew Torah truths/values or not. As an aside, what other Judaism is there, besides for the Torah one? David Lichtenstein is not Chareidi. He's modern orthodox. Chareidim are antizionist, would never financially support Israel, politically are not democrat, and do not and will never serve in the IDF.
The quick transition from 7 layer cake to strawberry shortcake was a wise one. Anyone west of the Verrazano Bridge would have no idea what 7 layer is...
Thank you so much for this amazing video! I have a quick question: I have a SafePal wallet with USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (alarm fetch churn bridge exercise tape speak race clerk couch crater letter). Could you explain how to move them to Binance?
Rabbi Lichtenstein is off a little bit. The Mishna was codified around the year 200 AD (prior to that it was purely oral and did not have a fixed text). The Babylonian Talmud was codified around the year 500 AD (but further editing continued for around 100 years after). There is also the Jerusalem Talmud which was codified around the year 400 AD.
Great discussion. However, I wish that Dovid Lichtenstein would have discussed the extra-halakhic sociological considerations of some Haredim. And some sociological considerations that actually conflict with the halakhah, such as exemptions from serving in obligatory wars. The halakhah clearly states that all men and women, including Haredim, must serve, and only exempt themselves because yeshiva learning is the credential for establishing a ranking order for family status and matchmaking.
Some estimates put the percentage of soldiers who enter the army religious and remove their kippah during the course of their service, at 50%. Before the establishment of pre-army mechina programs, it was 70%. Why is this more controversial than avoiding university for the same reason? Are you arguing that halacha permits or demands staying in such an environment? Part of the problem is the army sees itself as an engine for social change, more than winning Israel's wars; witness the current brouhaha over the army consistently sidelining the Prime Minister's office, and that the army has had so much trouble creating men-only units for Haredim. In truth, if the army was focused on winning, October 7th wouldn't have happened. Certainly, the army would not be needlessly throwing away soldiers' lives. Drafting the Haredim would be like throwing ever more money at someone who wastes money in the hope they'll change. What other "extra-halachic sociological considerations" do you think the Haredim are concerned with?
The overwhelming majority of heredim support the IDF the argument is only on whether or not they should draft the community to the idf because they are concerned it's a secular space that is not qualified and appropriate for a hardi lifestyle but they still support their work for the most part
Haredi in America means something very different in Israel. American Haredim are by and large not as extreme as those self-identified as Haredi in Israel.
@@JoBu83 ??? Have you heard what Charedi leaders have said about joining IDF and Zionism in general? What planet are you living on? Yes, there are chardalim but they are a minority
Thank you for allowing the public to see the beautiful aspects of our Jewish life!!!!
Such an interesting interview. Thank you Jonah for standing for Judaism.
Perhaps the greatest ambassador for orthodox judaism. Superb job explaining everything
I have never met R Dovid in person, but he has guided me and my learning for the better part of a a decade. It’s a privilege to have such a teacher
Excellent episode. David Lichtenstein is a legend and speaks so eloquently here. Thank you!

Thank you!! I really enjoyed this episode.
Beautiful. This is the first one of your episodes that feels like an actual Jew talking
Couldn’t be more repulsed by this comment, which is antithetical to the entire purpose of this show.

Maybe you should reflect on it, after your initial "repulsion".

How is it repulsive?
Great podcast Jonah!
Amazing wise man
Great interview
David lichtenstein did not say anything new to me. Yet i was mesmerized. Nothing he daid was just talk. It was all true
Love Dovid Lichtenstein
I never thought I’d be pro Trump either, but it’s so clear which side cares about Jewish civil rights, and that’s my priority!
Jonah, you should have Efraim Palvanov on your show.
best!

The amount of Haredi people who are anti Israel is very small - just 2 sects.

He is very much hareidi. Many, many chareidim support the soldiers and the IDF.
