Not only did Edge kill it as champion in the 3 weeks they gave him with the belt (getting the highest RAW ratings in ages), he also managed to get Cena to be cheered again (this was when Cena had just started getting booed, which began in his feud with Kurt Angle in late 2005). Since at the time WWE was desperate to put an end to the Cena booing (which John himself was clearly still struggling to deal with) you would think they would have continued the program with Edge, who was such a great and effective heel that he managed to get the crowd back on Cena's side, but nah, gotta let Triple H have his 3rd Wrestlemania main event in a row! And as Jack mentioned in this very video, Triple H was a poor and uneffective heel that always tried to look cool and put HIMSELF over rather than his opposing babyface, so guess what happened when Edge was shoved aside and Cena started feuding with HHH instead? Of course, Cena started getting booed harder than ever, and in the main event of Mania there were really loud "Fuck you, Cena!" chants during his match with HHH. It's no wonder Edge has gone on record saying he was massively pissed off at this time because he felt he deserved to main event Mania with Cena, which was what prompted him to go on to do something as extreme as spear Mick Foley through a flaming table in order to steal the show despite having his deserved spot in the main event stolen from him. I know he's managed to rehab his image with his recent work as head of creative, but we shouldn't forget how much of an egotistical, politicking prick HHH was as a performer.
I fully agree with you. Granted in hindsight I'm glad HHH has become a better person behind the scenes to make up for his past mistakes (though Crown Jewel 2018 I still... well.. you know). But i just realized Edge was often a scene stealer at Mania (2000 and X-7, going from Tag Team to IC Champ, all the way to first MITB to the most vile Heel past H himself, plus since being there since 98 compared to Cena, he was long overdue, especially considering the Hardcore battle was better than the main event. I'm just glad he faced Undertaker and later Reigns and Bryan in the main event. Both were incredible performances and storytelling. Cena while again hindsight is a great performer, his stories to main event never made sense
@@ryanleikness3414 Yeah, Edge did go on to get two (great) Wrestlemania main events, as well as 11 world title runs, so thankfully he did manage to make up for the way he was screwed over in his first main event push in 2006. But as Jack mentioned in this video, when Edge literally kissed the title goodbye in this match against Cena at Rumble 06, just 3 weeks into his reign, you did get the feeling that might end up being his only ever taste of the world title and the main event scene. As we all know, fortunately that was not the case. But unfortunately other similarly talented wrestlers were not so lucky, including Edge's best friend Christian, whose two runs with the world title only lasted 30 days total. =/
Thankfully for him it wasn't, but yeah from Christian to Kofi, to Finn Balor and KO, even CM Punk, to those who haven't held a world title but should have (Mr. Kennedy, William Regal, Shinsuke Nakamura), should have been booked better by Vince. And while I'm not blaming Cena, Orton, or Dwayne himself they should have stopped Kissing Vinces ass and approved those guys to be Champions instead of being multi time record holders. It's one thing to have career defining moments, but it's another to be popular both in ring and backstage and loyal to your fellow in ring stars. Bret Hart is one who comes to mind for being selfless, popular, and willing to help make stars (Jean-Pierre for example)
I've gotta disagree with this assessment. Edge (and Cena) were unproven main eventers at the time. It made complete sense for Triple H to be #1 contender and go on to main event WrestleMania to further put Cena over - and you may not have liked how he went about it, but HHH did in fact lose to Cena clean in the main event. I don't know this for a fact, but I've always been under the impression that the plan was for Triple H and Shawn Michaels to wrestle and put over Cena at back-to-back WrestleMania's, which is what ended up happening. You have to remember that Edge wasn't an established top guy at this point in time. WrestleMania likely wouldn't have gotten as many PPV buys with Cena going at it with Edge in the top spot (unless Triple H had been inserted to make it a Triple Threat - and that was very unnecessary). You're overlooking what was really best for business - and it wasn't Edge.
HHH put himself in or near the top spot way too often, but to say he was an ineffective heel is some 2023 smark shit. The hindsight of his creative control robbing others of potential success can be acknowledged without the added delusion that he wasn’t a good heel.
I remember how I wanted so badly to stay at my Dad's house to watch this PPV but I went home and, to my surprise, I came back the following weekend and he had taped it. I've never seen it as weird, at all.
Wow after all these years (since the OG whatculture) you guys still bring out quality content. You guys do a really good job with these videos. Thanks for the content!!

Petition for Edge & Lita to have a joint HOF induction for services to bastardry. They were the anti-elizabeth, the truly perfect heel couple. Dastardly, bodacious, dangerous, scheming, limitless, glorious. The only down side with them was that Lita wasn't put back in the ring earlier to knob-off the womens division by holding that belt to ransom as a power couple. A seriously incredible duo.
I'd say team extreme deserves it more. The Hardy's made Lita's career. She was a literal HO with the godfather then with Rios for like 2 months but she wasn't over until team extreme existed.
Obviously the Hardy's are going to be in the Hof without a doubt but team extreme as a trio deserve to be inducted. Also individually Lita is already in and Jeff is a multi time champion and Matt Hardy has done better outside of WWE like saving impact from death almost single handedly with the broken universe but his impact pun not intended on wrestling as a whole should be aknowledged
29:40 you're more or less right, it was a public hazing for Matt for unprofessional conduct that's correct, but not because of the Edge Lita thing, this was because he refused to take Undertakers finish during his big return at Survivor Series and ducked out under the ropes, meaning William Regal and Taker had to improvise a spot so Undertaker could get his heat. Backstage management were absolutely furious with Matt Hardy and booked him like crap for the rest of the year, including jobbing to JBL in like 3 minutes at Armageddon and getting humped by Big Vis at the Royal Rumble 😂 2005-6 was NOT a good time to be Matt Hardy
So with Rey Mysterio doing his tribute for Eddie and winning the rumble in Eddie's honor, i definitely think it would have been a shocker if they said last second "Sorry Rey, we've decided to push Chavo Guerrero as the winner and go on to Wrestlemania."

Sylvain Grenier looked like a lighter-haired Gerwyn Price, the darts player, while Booker T's tights look like the ones Edge used to wear around 2002-3
I know for DAMN sure Vince didn’t make the Rumble match itself the main event due to not wanting Rey Mysterio to close out the PPV, & Made Taker destroy the ring at the end of the show to justify Kurt & Henry to main event the show
For a weirdest Wrestlemania video two possibilities come to mind. One is Wrestlemania 25, which was strange for a plethora of reasons (e.g. a decently built tag title unification becoming a dark match for seemingly no reason, everything about the "Miss Wrestlemania" battle royal, and advertising the show as the 25th anniversary when it wasn't the 25th anniversary, among other things) The other is a show building to Wrestlemania from the year prior, the Raw from March 17, 2008, which featured Ric Flair vs Vince McMahon and Cena and Orton fighting the "entire" roster in a massive handicap match.
I think the exchange between Teddy and Vince was just because they were the GMs of the two brands, and Vince was intending to interfere with the Rumble so gave him the night off.
This was the first conscious year I have of really watching wrestling, got the wrestlemania 22 DVD for Christmas and absolutely loved it, Shaun Vs Vince underrated mania match and rey deserved the push
My first wwe ppv, it has a very special place in my Heart. Cena’s entrance, takers return, the cruiser weight match and the rumble. Love it all. I’m gonna watch the video now Oh wait. The music for the rumble was so good
I think in Royal Rumble canon, when you get on top of the top rope from the outside that counts the same as getting in the ring foot to mat. So it's a proper elimination.
Rey Mysterio is my favorite of all time, even WCW knew he was a big deal well at the end of WCW really he was in the main event picture most of the time known as the giant killer… I believe Rey would’ve deserved this without Eddie passing… It was awesome seeing him not only win the Rumble but in WWE being a 2 Time World Heavyweight Champion & 1 Time WWE Champion even though he was WWE Champion for 2 hours…
His talent was undeniable in WCW. I recall rewinding some of his spots and just being in awe…that said WCW never pushed him as a star. Any momentum he’d get, like beating Nash, was erased weeks later and he was back to the mid card…don’t get caught revising history. Never main-evented 1 WCW show or PPV. Not 1…
19:40 I feel like that’s just one of those where it’s like “I mean technically no there’s no law against it but no one has been stupid enough to try it yet either” 😂😂😂
"[Rome] was wacky wasn't it" literally first 3 minutes and I'm laughing like an idiot. Don't really remember the 2006 Rumble PPV that well, except for the winner. So maybe this really is a weird one.
About dogs having tattoos. When I was a kid my sister had a french bulldog with a tattoo. I always felt bad for that dog. She didn't know what a tattoo was, or what those weird humans who would tattoo a dog were doing.
I will say that Psychosis and Rey do that spot where he corners him and Rey puts up his defenses One of their ECW Matches had a similar thing and their ECW one night stand they did something similar before the dropkick in the corner I believe

If I remember right, Booker T had a legit lower body injury of some kind and the tights were hiding a brace or compression shorts.
One is Wrestlemania 25, which was strange for a plethora of reasons (e.g. a decently built tag title unification becoming a dark match for seemingly no reason, everything about the "Miss Wrestlemania" battle royal, and advertising the show as the 25th anniversary when it wasn't the 25th anniversary, among other things)
The other is a show building to Wrestlemania from the year prior, the Raw from March 17, 2008, which featured Ric Flair vs Vince McMahon and Cena and Orton fighting the "entire" roster in a massive handicap match.
I think the exchange between Teddy and Vince was just because they were the GMs of the two brands, and Vince was intending to interfere with the Rumble so gave him the night off.
Jack, that’s the first and last time Wrestling has been called noble.
Your commentary is amazing here 😂😂😂
I remember watching that Royal Rumble live and I remember being genuinely excited about the return of Tatanka.
I loved this ppv growing up
This was the first conscious year I have of really watching wrestling, got the wrestlemania 22 DVD for Christmas and absolutely loved it, Shaun Vs Vince underrated mania match and rey deserved the push
Boogie man in the Ric Flair robe......I can't 😂😂
My first wwe ppv, it has a very special place in my
Heart. Cena’s entrance, takers return, the cruiser weight match and the rumble. Love it all. I’m gonna watch the video now
Oh wait. The music for the rumble was so good
I think in Royal Rumble canon, when you get on top of the top rope from the outside that counts the same as getting in the ring foot to mat. So it's a proper elimination.
Love this series, Jack is hilarious. Can't believe you forgot to mention super crazys cool entrance tho.
Not 1…
your vince mcmahon impression is spot on
Anything that has Vince McMahon in it is going to age like goats milk.. It all looks sooooooo awful…
Haha! Candice should have pulled her straps down like Kurt! That had me rolling 😂
19:40 I feel like that’s just one of those where it’s like “I mean technically no there’s no law against it but no one has been stupid enough to try it yet either” 😂😂😂
We need a video where Jack just says at the end "I like this hat!" out of context, Jake Hager style.
Love this series
"[Rome] was wacky wasn't it" literally first 3 minutes and I'm laughing like an idiot.
Don't really remember the 2006 Rumble PPV that well, except for the winner. So maybe this really is a weird one.
It's been fun watching you grow and mature over the years jack 😁😂
Mature ? His afraid of attractive women ...
About dogs having tattoos. When I was a kid my sister had a french bulldog with a tattoo. I always felt bad for that dog. She didn't know what a tattoo was, or what those weird humans who would tattoo a dog were doing.
Mick Foley is a legend-maker
23:37 I think you're referring to Megazord.
Imagine if backstage interviewers were just that blunt. "Really pissed it down your leg out there, huh, what happened??"
I will say that Psychosis and Rey do that spot where he corners him and Rey puts up his defenses
One of their ECW Matches had a similar thing and their ECW one night stand they did something similar before the dropkick in the corner I believe
No matter if it's 2006 or 2015, Big Show and Kane are going to stand tall in a Rumble.
Can you do one for Wrestlemania 15, 29, and 36? Definitely the strangest of all the strange Wrestlemanias
thanks!
Honestly looking back in things like this and how creepy Vince was willing to act on camera make his allegations sound about right
Review some TNA ppv's
you should do Wrestlemania 32, simply because its a long bastard one,
This is probably not far off from how things went down in Vince’s office honestly
Jack, out of all the horrible Eminem impressions, yours is the best
Love this series !!!
"I checked on Wikipedia, & he's #6." And I'm here w/ my morning coffee thinking "You checked Wikipedia? The site anyone can edit & change? Instead of waiting to see what number he entered at?" 😆
Zoomers man "just google it" who owns google ... You don't need to know ...
