En una gran carrera y tras magnífica exhibición, el norteamericano o Kenny Roberts se impuso en el Gran Premio Motociclista de 750 cc., que se disputó el domingo en el circuito del Jarama. La carrera resultó de gran calidad gracias al duelo sostenido entre Roberts y el venezolano Johnny Ceccoto, que en principio fue quien mandó en la carrera.
El norteamericano, después de estudiar muy bien a su rival, lo pasó en la vuelta decimosegunda. Cecotto intentó por todos los medios seguir a la rueda de Roberts, pero éste, poco a poco, se fue distanciando para ganar con autoridad y dominio. Tan sólo tres hombres terminaron en la vuelta del ganador: Ceccoto, Sarrón y Estrosi. Kenny Roberts dio la vuelta más rápida al circuito -la decimosexta-, en 1-33-6, a un promedio de 130,937 kilómetros por hora, que es record absoluto del circuito.
Nieto fracasó otra vez
Correspondientes al Campeonato de España se celebraron las pruebas de 50, 125 y 250 cc. En las dos primeras se impuso Ricardo Tormo, y en la tercera el vencedor fue Benjamín Grau.En 50 cc. Ricardo Tormo y Angel Nieto dominaron, como siempre. Nieto permitió la victoria de Tormo. Se esperaba más o menos lo mismo en 125 cc., pero una vez más la moto traicionó a Nieto, que tuvo que retirarse en la quinta vuelta, produciéndose la victoria de Tormo sin que éste tuviera ninguna dificultad.
De forma indiscutible se impuso Benjamín Grau en 250 cc., donde quizá la nota destacada fuera la actuación del joven piloto Antonio García Moreno, que dejó constancia de una gran clase. Víctor Palmo, que dio una caza emocionante a Carlos Morante, tuvo que conformarse con el tercer puesto.

I think the next year at Jarama, Kenny told the race promoters to melt down the race trophies if they were so short of money, they couldn't or wouldn't pay the riders any start money. Kenny took no bullshit from anyone, that is for sure !
I remember this story: according to the reporter, King Kenny refused to accept the awards from another member of royalty, King Juan Carlos of Spain.

En USA no TE apoya El estado. TE apoya El privado El fabricante. El estado no debe meterse. Puede El estado apoyar dando logistica terreno para crear circuitos. Pero Este no es deporte olompico .

Que diferencia con el actual MotoGP que es todo electrónica
Igual que nuestras oficinas tampoco están alumbradas por candiles o bombillas viejas. La electrónica y la informática dominan todo, y las amotos no iban a ser una excepción en estos 44 años... O pensábamos que funcionarían igual que en 1978??? Gracias al progreso, un MGP iría 15 segundos más rápido que la 750 de Kenny aproximadamente, y es 100 veces más impresionante la sensación de velocidad que nos transmiten. Una moto 3 con Pedro Acosta rodaria 7 segundos más rápido

Cecotto tenía una moto preparada por mecánico, no era la yamaha oficial y con motos propias ganó el campeonato, así si lo promocionaron, el campeón más joven en su momento, 19 años de edad

750CC never was a GP motorracing event
I didn't think so either...but looked it up and he did indeed race the TZ-750 in what was known as GP Formula750 or GP 750 in Europe that year ('78 was the first year he won the GP500), so them calling it Moto GP Formula 750 is not really incorrect...btw Kenny finished 2nd that year in the F750 season. Just as another fyi, Kenny also raced in the gp250 season in '78 and finished fourth in a very over matched TZ-250...so he had a busy schedule in Europe that year.
F750 was pretty short lived as an FIM world series. Three seasons, 77 to 79. Prior to that it had semi official status. By 77 the class all but consisted of tz 750 Yamaha's with a few works Kawasaki triples and the odd ageing Suzuki 3 (Suzuki had a potential Yamaha beater in their XR 23 testbed bike, but decided against attempting homologation for road use due to its exotic nature. The bikes were raced in the UK domestic F750 series which had more open regulations) The works Yamaha's of Baker, Roberts & Cecotto dominated. The other problem was getting top riders to commit if they had GP commitments and by 79 the top guys were giving it a miss. It was pulled for 1980 and 'production' racer classes reverted to 4 stroke sportsbike formulas like TT F1 In the UK & Europe and the stock look machines of 'Superbike' in the US. The two ideas would converge over the next six years as production sports bikes came to look more and more like racing machines, with WSB being it's final form.
