Years ago I was in the US Navy. When our ship sailed to another country Navy officers conned the helm all the way until we put to port. Once my ship, the USS Canopus, put in to Lisbon, Portugal. We awaited the arrival of the Lisbon harbor pilot to guide us in. He arrived on a small boat, no more than 20 feet, and turned out to be a wrinkled and sun-burnt Portuguese gentleman in loose pants and a button-down shirt who looked like your image of your grandfather. He nodded to the assembled officers--of the greatest maritime power in history---took command and directed the helmsman to our slip without one extra word. Job done, he nodded again, and departed. I learned a lesson about authority and, well... authority.
politician is not meant to be a profession, once one begins to make money off of politics, they become corrupt. Take for instance, the net worth of Obama from when he first entered office, some several hundred thousand, to when he left office, tens of millions.
It's videos like this that get me wishing I was super rich. If I was Warren Buffet, I'm pretty sure I would have a miniature seaport filled with these tiny vessels.
Reminds me of the Navy Shiphandling school at Little Creek VA back in the 70s. It was a huge indoor pool with a whole scale modeled harbor complex and radio controlled models of every type of ship the Navy had at the time. I took my training as a harbor tug master there.
I think every sailor stands in awe of the professionalism of the Pilots. Their skill and instinct is vital. Further the fact that most people don't know of them as it is one of the professions where mistakes are that are known.
When I was at college, they had a building specifically for maritime training. They have everything from the classroom level all the way up to a full size lifeboat simulator. They also have a replica ship bridge with about 320 degrees of surround projection. It takes up an entire room and requires a whole sever room to power it. I studied computer networking but we got the chance to play in the simulator as part of our course on severs and distributed computing. It was pretty cool.
Best part about this is that I live not even 10 minutes from where they train on the smaller scale boats. It’s actually in Bush, LA. Just north of Covington out in the country.
My friend worked on a tug boat for years, then he quit. He was making really good money but, never had anytime to spend it/enjoy it. It didn’t help that he was always on call too.
LMAO! Does anyone remember the scene from naked gun with oil tanker school with the go cart tankers in the parking lot? Someone must have got the idea from that for this school
I love these sort of videos where something completely unknown to the general public is shown and to be discovered.
canuck21 - I know the feels.
I watched a video the other day about a man called Rick who turned him self into a pickle...blew my mind.
HAH!!! IM PICKLE RIIIIIIICKKKKKK

djecoed if you know what you are doing you don't have to speak alot since every thing you say is right.
cool story.
Respekt skills, not titles...sometimes skill coincides with titles like doctor or professor...sometimes it doesn't as in mr.president
Julian Fischer exactly like when Mr. President is referrinf to a horrible person and even worse executive like Obama.

Thanks Dan!
Wouldn't you rather have a yacht?
And a mini airport with mini RC planes
Tago
No! BIG RC planes.
John Johansen yes
Am I the only one who wants one of those mini tankers as a fishing boat?
It will get stuck in weeds easily as well as hit rocks in shallow spots where the good fish are. I’ve driven a houseboat before, and it happened.
I would say to my friend "look at the fish" then rock the boat
They probavly have a top speed approaching three miles an hour.
I want one that looks like the northwestern
I want one to sail in a lake
I love these little peeks into the lives and profession of people that this channel provides, also the cinematography work is amazing.
Well what a funny time for this to be recommended

surprising how informative these vids can be in such a short amount of time. Still tho, I wish they were longer.
+Dita Ness I'd say 4-8 minutes
Joe A. yes

The little anchors 😂 never thought a ship could be adorable
Wow this is the exact reason why UA-cam is so cool... these sort of videos are priceless
One of the best channels on UA-cam.
TheTarnationDog nice procile pic
Now I want to see a giant person riding around on a full sized ship
Where are the Somali pirate simulators?
I Be Trollin' They Be Hatin'
Tradelands on ROBLOX
its a game, called Sea of Thieves. lol
I Be Trollin' They Be Hatin' ... When I read your name I like to sing it
ronin Think he means to counter them.
LOL
Very serious training for a very serious job.
But this video just made me smile
"Drop anchor captain, we're having tea."
I LOVE this video .....
This is the first video I saw on your channel when you only had 10k subs, glad you made it lol (:
I was like “how does this simulate a giant ship” and then he said the boats have .4 hp and then realized that it made perfect sense.
Very educational video👍👍
Those training models is so COOOOOOL!!!! I'll pay just to play around with them.
.4hp? What are they using a guy blowing air into the water?
instructions unclear blocked the suez canal

Not only an amazing guy and trade but also a damn good filmmaker
The whimsical music makes this very comical
This was so fascinating.
When I hear supertanker I though
"Are they going to drive a Maus? Better start with the Mauschën."
Justin Liauw stupid wehraboo
Justin Liauw Were you dropped on the head, as a baby?
This guy tanks
Well, I was dropped as a baby.
Good lord, how did you manage to call me a "wehraboo".
This is beautiful
Awww, they put a tiny little mooring line around a cute little ballard.
Where is this institute? Thanks for sharing important vedio...
Why do i really want to go now
Beautiful
Super cool information!
Laila Dimyati kyle
That looks like fun!
That cute little anchor
I love it 👍👍👍
I can play with those all the time
One could probably go faster rowing the boat than using the 0.4hp motor, but hell those things look like fun to ride
This looks fun
Looks fun
Where can I find the hull plans for the Samuel Clemens. Been wanting to build one for years. Same size. Thanks for any info you have
You know that guy loves his job!
i live near covington la and i had no idea they did this
I wonder how an appropriately fitted out English canal narrow boat would go for training also?
Very good. I want to be attending there school
My friend worked on a tug boat for years, then he quit. He was making really good money but, never had anytime to spend it/enjoy it. It didn’t help that he was always on call too.
Love it
it may not be a toy but boy does it look fun
Just imagine an armada of those things.
I want one of the big ships and some of this models they showed at the beginning
Awesome
I wonder if they'd let you drive it around and get your own feel for it or if the training is 100% under the instructor's control.
Where can i find the complete video to this trailer?
This is hella cool
who else just wants to play on those training boats?
Timothy Faust me
These people really are proud of themselves
That was a cute little mooring bit.
How do you become a ship pilot?
Not in 1 million billion years would I guess that super tanker pilots train on scale models putting around in a fucking lake.
They dont, only in usa u find silly things like this.
You find "silly things" like this in Europe and the UK, Australia in fact pretty much any place maritime pilot training is done.
I want one!!!
That was cute
i want one!!
I wanna buy one of those training ships!
That's it. I'm dropping out of school to play with miniature ships
I need this for a fishing boat
One of my family’s best friends is a pilot out of New Orleans
where do I sign up to drive a tiny freighter?! 😍
Let's do some tug boats in irons..... nice video.
I don’t know why but the models made me laugh so hard I was crying 😂😂😂😂😂
Where can i get one of those training boats?
TANKERS IN YOUR MIRROR MAY APPEAR SMALLER lol...
where can i get one of those boats
I want one!
May look silly but if it works it works
And in twenty years all of this will be automated.
Fair enough.
I for one welcome our future robot overlords
+Safely Hazardous
True, robots could easily replace women if they can bear a human child and if men are desperate enough...
MXFLD it will just grab th3 ship and move it
greg77389 That already happens today... thank Mr Hitachi
where can i drive one
Greetings, my Brother @1:01
I wish i can have something like that
hey great big story can i get some sort of blue print for the model ship if you can help me out. thankyou verymuch.
Cool vid, im sure spongebob would love to drive one of those 😂
Franz Quijano yeah I would love to😀😀
Franz Quijano you're good you're good you're good
*BACKING* *UP* *BACKING* *UP*
Franz Quijano
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 yeah
I want that job
I know a guy who was a supertanker captain, then became a pilot. He's taken me out before. Told me wild ass stories. It is a very bad ass job.
if you pause at 0:34 that ship came into duluth a couple days ago
Where is this at. Is this in Alabama
Neat
I think the best person to drive that ship into port is the actual pilot that knows the ship
How can I get those tiny ships
Well, I just learned how to be a maritime pilot from UA-cam University. When do I get my degree?
So this is were SpongeBob went for his driver's ed.
I still don't understand how to drive a tanker boat. i wasn't born for this but it'd be cool.
oh look, a childhood reference waiting to be mentioned
It's not the size of the ship, it's the thrust of my girthy penis?
Spongebob
when it comes to deck department related work the ship pilot gets the biggest payout, even more than a captain. usually captains aspire to be pilots
i start drivers ed in 2 days!
Thats a nice ring! /G\
At camp 5 lakes
Why do we have tug boats than(/then)?
So cute
LMAO! Does anyone remember the scene from naked gun with oil tanker school with the go cart tankers in the parking lot? Someone must have got the idea from that for this school
'
both are big different ships...
trainning boat / ship and real big oil tank ship are ways
