1:23:30 Moment of the Week
Thanks!
THANKS YOU!
I have just noticed the nuance information you put. THANKS YOU SO MUCH
You’re welcome ☺️
Moment of the week was watching Loena and Amber go back to back and attack their short programs from the start! Haven't seen that type of competitive aggression for awhile in a ladies event but it was fun to watch from the spectator side of things.
Amber Glenn is SO talented. I could see in her face in the long program warmup that she didn't have that same look in her eyes as the short so I had a feeling the program might not get the same result. So happy for her that she got that triple axel in... and it was stellar! I hope she takes the positive vibes from this competition going forward. So much to celebrate on her end.
OMG Amber was so depressing. For 1 and 1/2 programs I was so excited for her and my heart broke for her. Also can we talk about Loena's ballroom dance moves? You KNOW Jorik's bf saw episodes of "Pose" and went to the Renaissance concert and had an experience! I live for Loena doing duck walking!
I was so happy that Texas turned out for this event. I was so surprised at the number of people who traveled from so far away to see Skate America. I was sitting behind two sisters who came from France the people next to me came from Mexico City and on the other side of they came from Utah. The energy was insane for Amber and Kevin both had standing ovations. The pair event long program had some scary moments in the first group. There were a lot of dropped lifts . This was my first time seeing a international event I had a great time 👏👏
Just here to chime in, as it was also my first, and I was OVER THE MOON. Also agree the pair event had me biting my nails for all the wrong reasons. I'm often scared for the ladies watching via broadcast or replay, but man, this was just terrifying! To SAY NOTHING OF OLIVIA'S NEAR-DECAPITATION in day 1 practice 💀⛸
I almost forgot about that. I think the rink was smaller than the ones that they train in
Were the sisters from France the ones in the pink fuzzy jackets? They were at SCOB last year for SKAM. I often see them in the audience at many events I see online. I wish I had their travel budget and PTO, lol.
@@andreagoldstein4070 Yes, I have seen those two at EVERY skating event!
Yes they we’re from France
Am I the only skating fan on the planet who didn’t know Alissa and Kurt were married? What the hell? 😂 She is gorgeous and starting to sound Canadian.
They announced it on IG, with photos.
Chock and Bates' first lift where they're spinning like the hands of the clock is to die for
Kevin was INCREDIBLE!!! Both programs and his costume in Bolero is fantastic, so romantic and appealing. His running slide with the back on the ice?! Yes SIR!!!
That Bolero was 🚀:gave me goosebumps -I could not believe my own eyes :Masterpiece 💯
INCREDIBLE
Best bolero program I’ve seen 🔥
He was my favorite
Kevin is the only artist skater left in the men’s discipline.
“Blanche Devereaux at the Rusty Anchor” 😂😂😂😂😂😂
😆😆😆
Alissa is still so beautiful. She hasn't aged one single bit.
I'm with Alissa. Chock & Bates RD is good but not my fave. But their new FD is OUT OF THIS WORLD MAGNIFICENT. The Choreography never stops being fascinating and Chock is a superstar. She is 31, Evan is 33. When you have that much experience you can create and perform something this good and original which elevates Sport to Art.
lol what?? their fd is bad, no dancing att all, just elements
I feel their FD is one of their best ones. However, there is a lot posing and not much dancing. Lots of stops and starts.
Azeri vs. Azerbaijani: TECHNICALLY, the first is an ethnicity, the second is a nationality. Learned that from an Azeri colleague who was from Iran - but I don't know how closely the country of Azerbaijan would hold to that distinction.
I know everyone’s been gushing about Ilia’s improvement in artistry. I never thought it was bad but doesn’t that have a lot to do with the choreography and choreographer giving the proper footwork and movement so that he can improve. I heard Shaelyn did both his programs and it made a difference.
Big difference
who did his programs last year?
The difference is Leona is a woman,Isabeau is still a young teenager with time to mature.
Ok so I just finished Kevin's bolero: A MASTERPIECE. Seriously, I think this could be one of his pieces that would inspire future skaters and audiences both. This is Jason's riverdance and sinnerman; yuzu's seimei and origin (despite the heartbreak, I love this program!)
And if he's ok with repeating programs, this could be the free for the Olympics.
❤❤❤
This is so eerie. I wrote a similar comment. I feel like this is Kevin's Riverdance moment. I actually wrote that Kevin's program drew out of me the exact same reaction when I watched Jason's Riverdance program for the first time. The way the program is mapped out is amazing. Not one dull moment. This is what you get when you have adults performing and not kids. Just saying. But yes, we're on the same page. Choreographically, Kevin's Bolero is a very strong candidate for being included among the most iconic male programs of all time.
Dave received his flowers after saying Isabeau was being "attacked" by her dress.
I’m here for the unexpected extended Satoko gushing 🎉
Loved the Bolero 😊 first time in a long time that i loved the choreo! Also the SP to Antony and the Jonhsons 💓💓💓
Yay! I don’t have to wait until Sunday for another This and That!
I am long-time fan of Alissa so thanks for this. made my very sad day better.
what a treat!! thank you!
Alissa is an amazing addition, I love her insights!! She’s so thoughtful!
❤️❤️💯
That’s a good word to describe her. Thoughtful & lovely!
50:40 - 51:05 !!!!! I wish with all my heart World Professionals was still a thing. Think of what we we're missing out on.
I groaned so hard when I first hear Kevin was skating to Bolero but after watching this performance...amazing. What a rush. He is so interesting and exciting. And the audience reaction just added. This is the kind of skating we want to see!!
Just two thoughts:
#1. Is it just me is Alissa a perfect fit on the panel? She has Jonathan's class with Dave's shade. I love it. I want more.
#2. Amber Glenn @ Skate America SP/FP 2023 = Nicole Bobek Worlds SP/FP 1995.
Yes, Alissa every competition!
Lopareva/Brissaud RD is based on the video for the song they use. Singer (who's a red head by the way!) is a puppet in it. One of the scariest videos i remember seeing as an 80s kid 😅
Yes the Mylene Farmer video is even more French than the RD. But I love this song and this pair!
Kevin slightly reminds of Phillipe candaloro, especially of the excitement of wondering about the jumps.😊
💯
There was a guy sitting behind me in the stands and he said almost the SAME EXACT THING. Totally agree.
Thank you folks. Great conversation.
Our pleasure!
Great episode! I agree I also find the step into a double axel after a jump very satisfying lol
❤️💯
The German team really takes effort. They left Berlin and moved to Bergamo. They had financial issues. The victory and the 18.000 Dollars means the World for them.
I read that the German skating Federation is small and not well-funded. Smart and Dieck had originally wanted to represent Germany, but they wouldn't have received the money they needed to support themselves and pay for their training. Spain has a bigger and better funded Federation, so they ended up there.
@@trylogic4084 yes. German Föderation is broke and lost. Run by old volonteers.
They had a huge throw triple. I was so surprised tha she could hold the landing.
I was at the event and loved it. On the French team's rhythm dance, the song they're using, Sans Contrefacon, is quintessential '80s music to the French ear. Mylene Farmer sings about how she was confused for a boy growing up. The song was released as a remix in the early '00s and became a gay anthem. So while the song choice won't have global appeal, I expect it'll strike the perfect kitschy chord back at home.
Great episode! Loved hearing Alissa's inshights.
I love Alissa! LoL she throws shade like a Regency era Duchess with a massive estate and £40,000 a year!😂
💯
I love Kurt and Alissa and enjoyed this episode a lot!
I have some Christmas ornaments to add to Isabeau's LP costume to make it look heavier.
I was NOT loving Isabeau's LP dress. But holy mother, the way the skirt moved during the jumps was nothing short of an engineering miracle (and a beautiful one at that). I was crestfallen when I re-watched the performance and saw the magical movement of the live performance utterly failed to translate to the video screen.
Which is not to say that improvements aren't called for... just that the atrocity you saw onscreen didn't completely convey IRL
Amazing how you get such good guests on the channel!
We work hard!
Alissa is awesome!
Again another great installment! Love Alisa!
❤️❤️
Re. Isabeau: she showed massive X factor promise in her "Material Girl" gala program at Skate America! It was so much fun and the audience ate it up. It's almost as if she's being told she has to hide whatever X factor she possesses and that she can only let it come out to play during exhibition.
Really? I thought she was a bit checked out. She barely had any facial expression and I don’t if it really fit her style.
How did Isabeau's euler combo get positive goe? It was awful watching it live. And a lot of her jumps were landed in the q...
Agree. She was almost at a standstill doing it.
I absolutely love Kevin's skating. I've been dreading the post-Jason-Brown era for skating being something more than just build-speed-for-jumps. And then Kevin comes in and blows the roof off with his originality, theatricality, and passion. And then Ilia comes in and says "Hold my beer." I absolutely LOVED Ilia's short program, but the free skate music really doesn't suit him. He's a kid, he's fun, and that's something to run with.
Chelsea has some glorious lift positions, I must say! 😍
My Amber Glen❤ Its developing for her now and I know its all going to be in place for her.
❤️
I hope Kurt and Alissa do the figures next year! They actually showed us some they do to warm up when they did the seminar in Australia they were mentioning a few months ago (it was super impressive!) Also, Dave you need to get Gary Beacom into that fancy skating competition! I feel like his show programmes from back in the day epitomise fancy skating - and also thanks to Kurt and Alissa for introducing me to Gary's skating lol, I had never heard of him before, but they showed some of his videos at the seminar.
Gary did skate in the WFS competition in 2016. He said that he is not allowed in the US anymore due to a tax incident.
@@mpdnd1335 Oh no! I didn't know that. That's a bummer, he would have been great. I'll have to look up his performance.
1985 Skate America was held in St. Paul, Minnesota.
I didn’t dare to hope for a this & that after all the time spent this weekend!! Thank you ❤❤❤
OMG SO MUCH TO TALK ABOUT THIS WEEK!!!!! Queen Alissa looking gorgeous as always!
I absolutely love ❤ Chock and Bates free dance. The choreography is awesome as is the music 🎶 Their lifts are really cool 😎
Excellent show.
Difference is Isabeau is 16 and has the body of a thin teen the other skaters bodies have devoleped with more muscle. Wait a few more years she's going to be gold.
I noticed that a lot of skaters are sliding on their knees. I know that’s an element for ice dancing but is this something added as a point getter? I like it. Also I did notice that a lot of skaters have been finishing their performances right in front of their faces. A little disrupting as a judge but hey, they started this in ice dancing too. I don’t like adding an extra movement exiting a spin. There is already so many transitions in every element. It’s looking really messy. Gone are the days where we can see a clean spiral or enith Bauer.
About sliding on their knees, I think it just wasn't allowed years ago, and it seems like the choreographers and skaters are excited about that and it's just another new thing to add in.
I thought it was required.
@b.reamsnider1328 I was referring to single skaters. It was mandatory for ice dance, not for single skating. Nowadays though, I believe that ice dancers are all required to have char steps, then pick two among a character slide, spin, lift, assisted jumps, and hydroblade. That's my observation, anyway. If you look at the detailed score sheets, that's what you'll see.
How could Alyssa imply that C/B’s RD is forgettable? Those hips shaking from Evan during the opening was quite memorable. 😀
Chock & Bates are in a class of their own!! Sorry but none of the other top teams are even close. This was the debut and it was still so brilliant. It will only get better and better as the season progresses. Both programs are awesome.
I don't agree. The Canadian team of Marjorie Lajoie and Zachary Lagha were hands down better. Their free dance was beautiful and they skated as one. Evan Bates looked a little wobbly on one of the lifts.
Ilia's short program is pretty darned excellent. The long I'm not as impressed with but it's fine. Ilia's SP is great! I"m a huge fan of his headless scratch spins.
It’s a good program for him, but choreographers please…flamenco is not paso doble. Do not conflate them.
I agree Mary no choreography between jumps just arm movements
Vocalise! My fav G and G program
Hard to choose but it was perfection truly.
Can anybody tell me what happened with the Taschler's char step sequence? They lost three tech points between the end of the program and announcing the scores.
The only thing I can think of is that they were skating too far apart. The rules were updated this year that partners can't be more than 2 arm lengths apart. The Mrazeks also got an ! and they are with the same coach, so he might not have read the new rules. The judging feels a bit harsh, but it's dance so not surprised. Chock/Bates also got a choreo violation but didn't get a deduction because it was only 1 judge, but am curious to know why.
@mshe89 I've been hearing about the two arm length apart rule for years. Maybe it originally wasn't applying to the character step sequence. I watched it again, and nothing looked wrong to me. But I'm not a skater or a judge, so give my observation the weight it deserves 😊
So nice to see KB...
💯
You know what - regarding Alissa Czisny, I'm going to be adult and exercise: if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. I'll leave it at that. Meanwhile, I loved Kevin. I came here to see what Dave and Jonathan actually thought of the program. What Kevin did was very effective. He knew how to mark out his program. Ravel can become VERY monotonous. But Kevin was truly able to articulate a VISION. I completely forgot it was a LONG program. It literally felt SHORT. I was screaming at the top of my lungs, applauding in my living room at the end. This is the type of skating (while sloppy at times), STOPPED me in my tracks. It was alluring and I could not look away. This was truly MEN's figure skating, and not the boys category! (That's right! I said it. Deal with it.) And funny how people bring up Jason when talking about Kevin. Funny enough: Kevin's Ravel program drew the exact same response out of me as Jason Brown's River dance - total elation. I remember screaming at the television scream after Jason's Riverdance. And here, yet again, I was screaming Yeesssss at the television screen. Kevin's program was THRILLING.

Really looking forward to this. Thanks you again. NO coverage of Skate America in the UK. NOTHING from the ISU for us nor on Eurosport (and very few uploads from anywhere) Why would you do this ISU? Why restrict this? Please let us know if the ISU channel on You Tube carried the performances in the USA so I can invest in a VPN. And, do you know if this is going to be for the whole Grand Prix season Again, thank you 🙏
Yes, the ISU channel on UA-cam has it, but it could be geoblocked for you. The VPN does work for the right country.
@@lumpyspacecadetthank you so much for the reply - really appreciate you taking the time to reply ❤
ISU always blocks the senior Grand Prix for USA on UA-cam which is really annoying and dumb, we have to use VPN or Peacock to watch.
@@nicnoodles Again, thank you. Really appreciate people taking the time to reply.🙏
@@ddjr6673 I think Dave has mentioned a few times on other episodes that he uses Opera browser with its built-in VPN and watches the events on the ISU UA-cam channel. So that's what I do now. the channel even carries it live. it's great!
Somehow I think that Olivia is a better match with Tim than with Adrian.
Really? I'm not a pro, but right now, to me, it looks like he's not as good as she is. They both have that quirky, edgy thing going, so there is that. This is the third competition this season that I've seen them in, and this is the best that they've done. It looks like they cleaned it up quite a bit.
@@trylogic4084 i feel like Tim matches Olivias personality much better, I know there is still a lot of work ahead of them though
@@pg5470 Absolutely. Even though they are a better match personality and style-wise, I always felt like Adrian sort of balanced her out and elevated her. I love Olivia, and I wish the best for those two.
Loena should skate to Jacques Brel--the Belgian connection would be perfect.
As long as she isn't skating to the Murder on the Orient Express soundtrack where the connection we would too on the nose.
Carolyn Taylor: word searching (to describe a flying camel) then uses a weird hand gesture to describe it…
Actual Figure Skater: word searching (to describe Ilia Malinin’s move at the end of his programs) then uses a weird hand gesture to describe it….
Two of My Favorite Skaters!!
Agree about Loena’s LP. She doesn’t seem committed to it & it comes across like that. Also don’t love the costume, how the band abruptly stops & the back is just mesh with the seem down the middle. It looks unfinished. Also don’t love how it comes over her boots. Hopefully she can improve on all of this as time goes on this season.
Tanith's wisdom tooth was when they withdrew in 2006 and came back for Nats 07 w Amelie after dumping That's Entertainment.(They withdrew 3 times) Evan was born in 1989
Alexa is retired
“Belbin / Agosto won both their Grand Prix events in the 2009-10 season: the 2009 Cup of China and the 2009 Skate America. They withdrew from the Grand Prix Final for medical reasons.[17”
I’m worried about evans neck in that opening pose
I love Chock/Bates RD because 1) Queen, 2) queen songs that arent Bohemian Rhapsody, 3) interesting choreo and 4) THAT DRESS!
But it did look a lot like Evan was pushing/dragging Maddie around 🥲
Loved Chock & Bates RD and FD.
OMG. The announcers and their pronunciations! 🙄
And no more Ave Maria and Hallelujah any more at ALL!
YES!!!
Ilia is out of this world. He is incredible! Overall the tournament was great! Many great performances!
I cannot agree with this.
ITA! 😎
@@mysticalmargaret6105 people with bad taste get to be critics. That’s how the world works.
Love seeing Alissa! 💜
Am I the only one who thinks Ilia's jumps are not perfect? Like, yeah, they are very good, but he's not all +5s jumps. I feel like he lacks flow out of his jumps very often.
Completely off topic but I want Alyssa's skin care regimen. She is aging backwards.
Me too!!! 😂❤
Ilia has the raf strategy down. great performance energy with just-enough acceptable skating skills where you can act like his skating skills are better due to the strength of the performance.
This is a good way of explaining it
They are working on his PCS skills, and I've seen it year to year, so they're not just giving us lip service. I have high hopes for Ilia.
@@trylogic4084As do I. And I agree that they've been working hard to try and improve Ilia's PCS. They're not trying to just skate by with them, no pun intended.
Maybe Loena will make changes to her FS, last year she made changes to the music and her costume after the Nebelhorn Trophy.
Did Alexa and Brandon stop skating together or are they taking this season off?
I feel like they retired but not officially lol
Does anyone know why both Czech teams got dinged on their choreo step sequence in the FD? SkatingScores shows that both got exclamation points with negative grades of execution. For both teams, it cost them a place.
Isabeau should be skating to Mi chiamano Mimi
Olivia Smart's FD doing Elvis is just a terri-bad program, the music cuts were awful, the music choice is so bad. I love Olivia so much and this program was rough and looks rough. Chock and Bates' program is a work of art and there are so many good moments and that starting position?! Fantastic!!! I'm not always their biggest fan but this program is outstanding. This should be their olympic program and I think this will be so successful and then next year their olympic program will not be as good and they'll go back to this program.
Yeah I’m not into Olivia’s fashion or music this season but I’m glad she’s back with a new partner anyhow
@@nicnoodlesI like her new partner but what were their new programs about as well as their exhibition program. Still needs time to grow
Chock was getting more levels that Bates for the first time. For me, the use of her keg, with so many pullings and things... bit mr nervkus. It's like her leg was the protagonist
Carol of the Bells is in the Nutcracker? 21:19
Olivia Smart is giving all the Debbie Harry realness I need in that RD but Tim is missing the chance to go full groomed Richard Gere in faux Armani, especially if “Call Me” is your core song. I had such hopes for 80s rhythm dance but sadly it’s a lot of pointing and hair-crimping from most of the other teams.
i thought the Brown's Elton John program was a nice change from the rest. they did well for a young team and need some packaging
I love the Browns but not their material this year. Just a matter of preference but I wish them well!
I didn;t understand Chock's free program dress until Dave explained as a take on Dali. But at least on my laptop, the white part just looks dirty because of the way it's painted.
😆😆
I still feel like they design her dress first, then find music to match. But I liked it this time. 😁
YES! I'm feeling the wild joy that only being-right vindication delivers. First saw Chock's dress during their practice session; didn't understand their costumes until the music started - I got the watch hands reference immediately and leaned over to my friend and asked, "Do you think this is an on-purpose Dali reference? It's gotta be." She shrugged. SO IT WAS!
With Hawayek and Baker (potentially) retiring - how much money would you pay to put Jean-Luc Baker with Olivia Smart? His personality is possibly the only male personality that can match hers. Or would she be too tall for him?
That would be so much fun to watch!
1. a loena/raf/shae-lynn situation could be magic. she needs a little ashley wagner realness... but not a circuit queen's version of ashley wagner realness.
2. tanith & charlie were both coached by the MASTER of political maneuvering... what the hell?! green & parsons are too talented to get shibutani'd like they are.
I think Luna will get it by worlds if the jumps remain good.
I LOVED Kevin's Bolero. It's the first time I've really fully enjoyed him. Any chance Ilia will skate for Russia once they are allowed back? Sometimes I wonder.
It would take years to be released from USFS.
Watching everyone wildly cheering on Kevin (I would argue even more than ilia in the fp) reminded me again about how desperate audiences all over are to watch any style in skating. And without the quad axel, ilia just seemed so forgettable, I was honestly shocked (his sp was def more interesting than whatever his long was).
Also WHY WAS EVERYONE ENDING THEIR PROGRAM IN THE BOARDS/JUDGES CORNER??? It's kinda fun when one person does it once in a while but I swear to God, it seemed like everyone was freaking doing it and it just ruined the whole thing for me.
Seems like US audience loves Ilia Malinin even without too riskful but underestimated quad axel. Without 4A he's got more energy left for the rest of the program.
@@alexander28110 yeah but it's not like there's any super interesting moments the remainder of his program, that he has an excuse for that he should be saving his energy for. And that's not even his fault...just the focus his team has chosen to make.
@@NG-ue4thnothing excites me about him and that includes his quad axle. I think what’s lacking for me is he hasn’t got charisma or the X factor.
Look, I've always rooted for Ilia, but that short program material (malaguena), is just not for him. I feel like they gave him a mammoth to carry and not enough strength to carry it through. His jumps are amazing though, and he has improved a lot, but nop... the PCS was too much for this program
I was there in person and Chock and Bates were *incredibly* slow in the free dance. It felt like they spent most of the program standing still. I could see it being cool on TV but I found it awkward to watch in person
I'm not surprised.
I thought they looked slow & he spends his time dragging her while she poses…
Is that little boy up for adoption? How freaking funny is he?
I disagree Dave… I didn’t see any transitions or skating skill’s between jumps… all I see is jump, jump,jump, spin,spin spin!
I don’t know who you’re referencing to.
Check out the difference from last year. That was the point, Ilia's improvement.
Would like to see Isabeau’s short in a body suit
This judge from Azerbajian has always judged crazily... the worst judge in the business.
OOPS..I DIDN'T REALIZE SHE WAS A SNAKE..THERE WERE ALL THOSE FEATHERS ON HER SHOULDERS!?
Snake is the short program
Zach Lagha's last name does not rhyme with Lajoie. It sounds like Law'-guh. Emphasis on the first syllable.
I enjoyed the strictness of the judges in the ladies division until Isabeau Levito happend. Why should others fix their technique if there's no incentive for the skaters whom judges favour.
Similarly, ilia Malinin no longer requires work after achieving perfect PCS.
Perfect PCS? Kevin was 6 points higher than him in PCS.
@@etherealtb6021 Ilya was second overall in PCS of ALL THE MEN. The SP was a 2 point difference between him and Kevin. And the free programme was a 6 point difference. Do you think the programme reflected this?

@@bobbyellis5940 I asked you a simple question.
@@Jeremy-wp4yh At least it wasn't 1 point, like they normally do.
Where are P/C? They would wipe the floor with their skating, nowadays especially with that rivarls?
Landing jumps consistently is boring is an interesting take.
I don't recall one of us saying that during the show?
@@TheSkatingLesson Didn’t Alissa say that? Perhaps I misinterpreted.
I'm really annoyed that NBC Sports has only uploaded two performances to their UA-cam channel. Anyone have tips for keeping up with the grand prix when you're broke? No shot I'm about to pay for peacock so I can watch their mediocre commentary and zero slow motion replays.
Download the opera browser and set the VPN outside of the US. Everything is on the Skating ISU channel.
I don’t know. Miss Michele, Honda, Satoko, Kristi, Eunsoo, et al. Want to be interested but just not.
Isabeu unfortunately doesn’t have what it takes athletically. She is performing very well and all, but it’s still unwatchable. Her costumes are great, expensive looking. Eteri should definitely check out the snake. But she’s basically omitting the physics of skating, using a lot of energy, almost working too hard. Amber’s short was the best performance of all us women in a long time. She should have at least 3 points higher scores for it next time she nails it and the 3A was wonderful. But it’s totally premature crowning her national champion since she doesn’t do clean programs. She looked in pain in her long.
I think all her costumes swallow her up. Way too much everywhere.
@@bettybleu12 yes, way too much, but it’s a cover up operation.
@@0c0p0c0 huh?
They should consult with Madison Chock on costumes for her!
Dave, I love you, but Isabeau’s hair wasn’t an issue, but Amber’s long program hairstyle was atrocious, it looked like she overslept, w/a cheap beige Goody’s elastic tie (messy ponytail), and plastic clips, oh my! And Alissa saying Amber is gonna win Nats was confusing, cause that LP was as messy as the hairstyle.
I caught the LP’s on Peacock, then watched tsl (as per usual).
My takeaways:
1) I assumed Loena would score more points, as she skated after Isabeau and Amber. Plus, she finished 3rd at Worlds, so the judging was generous, imo. I’m not a fan of her skating style and overall presentation, her programs look like something from Stars on Ice, teetering on eurotrash with the costumes sometimes. Lovely jumps though!
2) Isabeau’s skating looked faster to me, you can tell she’s working on her speed, which is something to look forward to by the time Nats & Worlds comes along. Nobody comes close to matching Isabeau’s line, flexibility, and every portion of her program is choreographed to the max. I know figure skating can be a subjective sport, which is why I say, give me prima ballerina Isabeau over amazon women skaters w/ the big jumps, any day of the week.
3) Amber, sigh. I haven’t seen her sp yet, just saw the lp, and if the consistency is suffering now , it will most likely happen again at Nats & Worlds. Her positives are, she’s a strong skater w/ big jumping capabilities, but I’ve seen too many skaters like Amber come and go since the US stopped being a top contender on the world stage.
We can agree to disagree on the packaging.

Don’t forget what Christy Ness said about Isabeau. After watching 2023 Nats she said: “That’s why someone like Isabeau, my gosh, she was, when she skated that night, she was the best, there was no question.
“I told people in order to win in skating, you have to be 👆this much better than the next skater. She (Isabeau) was 👆much better, because she every move was choreographed, she didn’t have 1 empty spot, there wasn’t 1 wasted spot. She made a 3 turn in the middle of the rink look beautiful, just simple, simple turns look beautiful and captured attention. I mean, you can do a series of turns in the middle of the rink, and everybody’s looking at their program or eat, drink, whatever. No, she was captivating and that’s unusual, that’s hard.”
