Hello sir.. in the 70s i worked at the Oldberg Trading post ran by Earnest and Izzy Ellis. My father Jack worked at the store as the butcher among other duties.. we would also deliver groceries to people who could not get to the store. I would take old cars that i could get running and drive out in the desert with as many old dogs i could get to ride with me and be gone for hours exploring the washes and hills. I used to pump gas out with the old hand gas pumps! What a wonderful time for a boy to grow up with wonderful American Indians who scratched a living in that dirt. Thank you for letting me relive some wonderful times.

Thanks for the comment. Around 1980, I bought the old gas pump from Earnest. It was still hooked to the tank. Both he and I unhooked it and loaded it in my car. I whish I still had it. He, Earnest, told me he worked building the bridge across the Gila River and stayed there

I'm from Gila River, any one who is not from the reservation has to either be invited or have a permit to be on the reservation. I worked with PD, I know our tribal rangers wouldn't be rude like you say unless you provoked him.

I'm also a community member and many people don't know tribal land is federally governed by the U.S. and the tribe. State has no say on how the tribe is governed. To preserve the land, people, and culture. Entering federally protected lands is trespassing.
Our Gila River cops are always courteous and many ethnicities talk highly of their interactions with them. The cops could have made the situation worse by fining or arresting. Instead they understood the situation and just informed you of the law.

Sorry to hear you were harassed and roughed up by the Tribal Police. I'm sure you comment about them "losing the war" didn't help matters. I remember in the mid 60s, when I was a kid, my dad would take us across that old bridge on our way to Chandler, Mesa, and Phoenix from Florence. I've just started researching old places like that from childhood memories. Since I retired to Idaho, the internet has been a great source for my research. Thanks for your part.

Harassed is probably too harsh a word. It was interesting. Years ago (mid seventies), I bought an old gas pump from the Olberg trading post owner. It was still connected to the underground tank. The owner helped me take it apart. I paid him $100 for it. He, the owner, had come out to Arizona to work with WPA in the 1930s. He helped build the old bridge there that crosses the Gila River. Now the only thing left of Olberg is a concrete slab and the bridge which is covered with graffitti.

Why is Olberg road not opened on the north end near San Tan Valley? It goes all the way up near san tan mountain behind the residential homes, and is simply gated off.

Years ago you could travel from Olberg to San Tan. Since it has been developed, they probably fenced it off to keep the Indians on he res

Bad place to be after dark? Get hurt how? There's nothing even there, which you can clearly see in the drone footage. So I don't see how that would even be the case and how anyone can even get hurt on an empty bridge in the middle of nowhere.
