The guy who wrote the song, Sonny Curtis, was a friend of Buddy Holly- and later joined the Crickets. Which probably explains why it sounds like a Buddy Holly song.
That is why Buddy Holly is the greatest artist of all time👌as “Keef” Richards once said . . . .” There’s a bit of Buddy Holly in everyone, how little or much, well who knows?” ✊🏻
Probably sounds a bit like Buddy Holly because the writer of the song, Sonny Curtis, was a guitarist in Holly’s band the Crickets. He also wrote Rock Around With Ollie Vee, which Holly recorded. After Buddy’s death, Sonny took over on lead vocals for awhile. He also wrote Walk Right Back which was a hit for The Everly Bros, and Love is All around, the theme song for The Mary Tyler Moore Show, amongst others.

It sounds a lot like a Buddy Holly tune, because it was a Buddy Holly tune…it was the Crickets first recording after he died. Bobby Fuller Four did it later, and more famously.
Unsolved Mysteries has an episode on Mr. Bobby Fuller, SAD that a young man's life was taken so abruptly and his loved ones have no idea what lead up to him being shot and killed in his car, People that were close to Bobby say/said it had something to do with his envolvement with a married woman, A woman who's husband was a wealthy man who like Bobby was in the entertainment industry.
Another great lesson, James! I’ve been playing this song a lot after watching your lesson. What’s not to love about rock and roll? Today would have been George Harrison’s 79th birthday. Happy Birthday George (and James if today happens to be your birthday) and to your thousands of subscribers. Undoubtedly, it’s got to be one of your subscriber’s birthday today? If so, have a great birthday!
Oh my... where can I get that shirt?!! Great song and great lesson and an awesome shirt of the album most ever played on my turn tables over the years since I bought it
@@olafbigandglad wrong, Sonny Curtis played Buddy Holly’s Fender Stratocaster on the early Nashville sessions. Don Guess and Joe Mauldlin we’re his other bass players before Waylon, who only played bass on the Winter Dance Party. For anyone who wants to learn, James is 1 of the best on breaking down songs making you playing more enjoyable. Keep at it bro.
Love Bobby Fuller. Some great songs and a tragic story.
Gotta love the Flutie Flakes in the background. Thumbs up just for that.

Makes sense why there's a version of it done by The Crickets

THanks man! A great lesson. That one part you make look easier than I thought. Thanks! 👏
Sounds like a buddy Holly tune....as it was written by Sonny Curtis of the Crickets.....Great Lesson as always James.
Another song tonight you played that was on our setlist in the late 80s early 90s! Time has sure passed by quickly! 🙄
Played that song. Now I am old. Brought back great memories of smokey bars and fun times.
Been looking everywhere for a great tutorial for this and you just so happen to post this great lesson one hour ago. Your the man JJ. Rip Charlie.
You are the greatest guitar teacher in the world!
great video but that is the coolest shirt i’ve ever seen hands down

This was a fun one. Thanks.
Such a good song thats been covered so many times. Two of my favorite versions are Hank Williams Jr and The Dead Kennedys.
What a good guitar song…another great lesson JJ
Another turn it up song. Thanks!
Always loved this song. You've just sentenced me to at least a months hard labour with my guitar ability. But love your channel. Cheers.
I've always thought the 6 drum beats when he sings "Robbin people with a six gun", was genius!
agreed that is the best part of the song
My uncle Dewayne is still around. He's in Chicago wanna play.....
This is one of the coolest solos! It's up there with the intro to "End of the Line" in degree of difficulty.
That’s what I was thinking of too.
Sounds like a Buddy Holly song because written by Sonny Curtis who was in the band.
And originally recorded by the Crickets

The authorities said his death was “better off unsolved”

Thank you, thank you, thank you. I could never figure out the solo part of that song.
Great song and lesson. Fuller's brother Randy wrote a biography of Bobby five or six years ago. Worth reading

From one New Yawker to Anotha, nice Shoit!
Funny you mention it sounds like a buddy holly tune because “I fought the law” was written by the crickets in 1960
Buddy Holly you mentioned in the first 10 seconds of your video only used down strokes on most of his big records. Why he sound so different.
This song is originally buddy holly
Buddy had nothing to do with this song, he was already gone when the Crickets recorded it.
@@jamesjames9275 oh ok.

Didn't The Crickets write this song?
Sonny. Curtis, who I believe was the bass player before being replaced by Waylon Jennings, but I could be wrong on that.

TV Jones.
Buddy Holly did do it……
The Crickets did it, after Buddy died.
