Probably one of the most underrated performers EVER. When you are such a bad ass, that they have to turn you into a baby face, that my friend is the mark of a true icon.
The one thing that stood out to me about ECW events compared to others was a bunch of the wrestlers interacted with the fans before the match. Only guy that I remember not being fan friendly was Tommy Dreamer but I just assumed he was always too busy before shows to be bothered.
Sabu is on my Mt. Rushmore of pro wrestlers.
Long live Sabu! ☝
If Sabu would have signed in 93 and given that Sheik type gimmick he would have been pushed hard. He would have likely been put in the foreign fanatics/USA angle and probably worked with Luger, Undertaker, and Tatanka. Matches with Bret, Shawn, and 123 Kid would have been amazing.
It was a bad decision for sure. Vince changes gimmicks like underwear and was even more cavalier about it in those days.
I get his love for his uncle but get over it. I guarantee Iron Sheik and no tongue Sultan end up in Sabu pointing at the cieling within 4-6 months.
@@billyridge7250 Sabu made a lot of bad business decisions because of his stubbornness and loyalty to Paul Heyman. Mr. Brunk should be a retired multi millionaire by now and his body also wouldn't be so beat up.
@@justinmartin1831 I don't think sabu was that loyal to heymen. He no-showed an ecw ppv to work Japan. I think his loyalty was mostly to Japan.
Unfortunately Vince Revamped ECW. It was embarrassing.
"Vince shock my hand so hard like he was a R tard" - Jim Cornette
SABU IS THE MAN WHO CHANGED WRESTLING FOREVER; SELDOM GETS CREDIT.
That a good thing? Lol
Well he should've tried to be more flexible with WWF /E. Even in 2006, they tried, but he resisted.
Sabu! Sabu! Sabu!
Met Sabu back in about 95 we were with the NWC great performer nice guy but his career decisions cost him in life. In the end he just has to be happy with his body of work! 🤔👌
@@TheBC313 nope not by that name anyway
Should have sold out he could have retired in 1 piece. His work was different and very good. Pride B4 a fall.
Cost him what exactly? Sabu became a legend in wrestling without WWE.
@@sdd619 to the extreme fans the major wrestling fans yes to the casual wrestling fan no no no! If you ask a casual person a casual fan hardly any will know who he is... RVD figured it out! 😇
@@sdd619 yeah it did but sabu has admitted himself his decisions have cost him hundreds of thousands of dollars if not over a million dollars with wwe and wcw.
When I discovered who Sabu was when WWE get integrated with ECW in 2007, I wanted to see more matches of him since I think he would've been an amazing high flyer that could do very well against almost any kind of opponent, sort of like how Rey Mysterio did it, and I think Sabu would've done very well even against Umaga.
I know a lot of people are saying he should have taken the money but they would’ve gimmick the hell out of him and fired him after a year or 2.
@EraofBlood82 money isn’t the root of all evil, Vince thinking he can shovel bs down our throat and call it entertainment is.
@@reginaldshort8486 People who love to bad-mouth money, if they think it's so bad, then they are free to give all of their money away and try living without paying any bills or buying any groceries with it.
@@Steveman27 money earned is a beautiful thing but putting silly shit on tv is ugly. Sabu was a legit talent deserving of being on tv.
@@reginaldshort8486 I remember discovering who Sabu was by 2006 when there was the whole ECW thing, and I figured he would be one of the most extreme, talented wrestlers on the roster. The weirdest thing I found about the ECW Originals, was Balls Mahoney, with how he got wasted all the time. He was like the Brad Armstrong of WCW.
Sabu has mentioned before how WWF wanting to putting him with the Iron Sheik and in storyline was going to be related to him was a slap in the face. It would have been disrespectful to both himself and his uncle the original Sheik. If Sabu agreed to it, then he'd be disrespecting his own family while denigrating himself simultaneously.
Wrestling is a work that's the bottom line.... the average mark wouldn't know that or care they're buying the entertainment value... you catch fish while they're biting! 😇👌
@@dondemmeljr1765 Sometimes previous bonds/ties, and or family connections will have people chose to decline something that might help them all for the sake of not disrespecting those connections. Pride and respect can be huge no matter the reasoning.
Just because Wrestling is a work doesn't mean there aren't people who don't believe it's real (there are), or family/friends who know the truth and would feel ashamed/upset/embarrassed/disrespected by the actions or lack thereof of said wrestler and or company asking the Wrestler to do/be such things.
@@SmaugUKA totally have to disagree by that era it was known that wrestling was a bunch of bulshit I was in it for 25 years it become a circus the whole world knew it you got to do what you got to do take the money when it's on the table especially when there's no other Doors 2 Walkthrough of equal caliber. If you're disrespecting your body physically internally with pills which is your Sanctuary really what else does everything matter! That shows you are not concerned about your own well-being physically financially or any other way!😇
@@dondemmeljr1765 Yet for some, self respect and respecting a family legacy is more important than a payday. Yes what you're saying is much more common, but what I'm saying is true. Money doesn't trump everything for everyone.
@@SmaugUKA you also get respect from your family for getting your bills paid and looking out for them... there's a whole lot of people that didn't know the original Sheik was not nearly as exposed in the territory days.... how much money is in your bank account from respect ?🤔
Booked sabu in the UK. A laid back easy guy and great in the ring
I like Sabu but he’s probably regretting never taking the money when offered to him. I know a lot of people think that’s cool but money is important. You got to make it when You can.
New Japan pays almost as much as WWE and its much more respected in Japan. Why do you think it's tough for those guys to jump ship. He said he was getting paid 5 to 6k a match in New Japan in 1993 Vince wasn't paying that in 93
However if he would have taken the job Vince and the family would have treated him a lot better in the early 2000s when he came back in then he was that's for sure.
Best comment i agree 100%
@@neilsmith9066 so then why is he broke now? Obviously he didn’t make great decisions
Especially in a career like professional wrestling where your big money making years are limited.
Rikishi went on to be the Sultan
On one hand sabu was always one of my favorites to watch.. but he never did himself many favors inside the ring or out of it.
I wish he would of did it without the iron shiek.. Vince would have probably went with it.. atleast he would have alot of dough....
Saturday is a cool 😎 dude.
Change the music at the end. Sounds terrible.. It does not fit
no offense you botched a lot of spots lets not bullshit
I know that at one time he had a HUGE deal on the table for several hundred thousand per year....it was for wwf or wcw.........I dont recall..........he had to visit his mother which delayed the signing....when he got back, the deal was off the table...........someone spake against him.......
Ummm call it personal experience, but homie Sabu seems to be on the powder during this interview
Normally it was 200
Rikishi did great as the Sultan who you kidding the gimmick sucked. Rikishi lucky he has dance moves
I actually think he was being sarcastic but Sabu didn't pick up on it so he just moved on lol
Yeah. "The Sultan" was a flop and didn't last long. They mentioned the Iron Sheik, but wasn't The Sultan also managed by Bob Backlund?
Vince would have had him dress up in something stupid, remember what he did to Dusty Rhodes and the polka dot thing? That was out of spite, Dusty never would have done that to himself. Sabu is another guy Vince would have loved to hire just to humiliate in front of his fan base. WWE fans are more like a cult than wrestling fans, they tend to hate anything that isn't WWE as if it's the only promotion on Earth that matters. Plus Vince is Trump Lite, they have the same fan base, I would never support WWE by even so much as watching their YT videos.
