I finally have something salient to say. I have had many forms of a mohawk during my life. The liberty spike you are trying to pull off is by far the hardest and takes the most effort, and you really can't pull it off successfully without Elmer's glue. Seriously.
I never had hair that long, myself, but knew people that did. It is a daunting process and they only do it when they want to strut their stuff. It's a convoluted process and takes hours. I never had the patience.
I always do way shorter (long hair on me bugs me), shave the sides and back, some gel on the middle remainder, and you're done. It's the easiest hairstyle, ever, to maintain. A weekly trim up and that's it, until the top bit gets tippy, wobbly, too long, and then I just put on a .5 guard and whack it all off and go skinhead for a few weeks. Rinse and repeat. Wait for the top to grow out a bit.
Check out photos of a band like Rancid. There is a reason in photos half the time punks are wearing skullies, tuques, knit wool caps - that's because their morning hair routine failed, or they didn't have the time to execute it properly. There is nothing so lame looking as a flopped over mohawk. Been there! And the longest/tallest I ever went was 3 or 4 inches. You just look ridiculous. Hence, the skully. Mine wasn't that tall so I could get away with a baseball cap.
If you go taller you need Elmer's glue, basically, to hold it up. If you go for smaller mohawk in the 2-3 inch range gel works perfectly fine. Not a problem.
Nowadays I just shave the sides and and back with a .5 guard and trim the top when it starts flopping. If you shave your head often enough you sort of train your hair to stick straight up.
Try again with clean hair and Got2Be Glued spray and gel. You can't get a good enough hold with unclean hair.
She doesn't use Schwarzkopf tho, it's not cruelty free.
This video is a good reminder that not everything needs to be so serious all the time! If you choose to try the mohawk or spikes again, it'd be cool if you tried to decorate your updo too lol Like with glitter or charms and clips.

I want you to try this again 😄Maybe do like five sections and tease the hair. You could also use sugarwater instead of the gel. Oh yeah and maybe use just a section in the middle and do couple french braids on the side. Less hair to get up 😄 and maybe look more like a mohawk.
I don't know why but my brain immediately thought of using some type of wire structure inside of it, but yea, all these seem like better ideas lol

But yeah, I used to do hair professionally and an ex had a long Mohawk that I styled for him a lot. The advantage there was that it wasn’t his whole head as I shaved the sides for him. I would tease it like crazy, use only hair spray in the roots, blow dry loads and then work up and up and up using a bit of gel too and then do that for each spike. Not easy but once it was done it literally held for days! Defo recommend teasing it, at least 6 inches, not only does it provide a stronger base but also shortens the length slightly so your arms won’t die as much haha!

I used to wear my hair in a Mohawk when I was a teen , mine was more of a medium length but god darn it was hard to style before school especially because I have stubborn hair that just wants to be straight and flat and I just had basic hair spray to when with

Lol... I had an actual mohawk like 10 years ago (like shaved sides). It was about a foot long... and *that* took an entire can of hairspray/ a tonne of PVA glue to hold it up... and even then it would flop at the top... I think I actually put it up like twice... So no wonder it didn't work with ALL your hair. I think real punks use gelatin or some other super hold product.
You need 2 people with hair that long and use clear Elmer's glue and a hair dryer! It washes right out but works well!

in thr gothic scene they use water with sugar for their massive hairstyles. you can also tease and backcomb it up and add some powder to it :) gel is to heavy to hold that much hair up that high :)
When we did Mohicans in the 1970's and '80's sugar water and blow dried it hard.

Murray's in the orange tin is literally the best way to do a Mohawk and liberty spikes. I did it in high school and it would last all day.

I did this as a teen, and the secret is hair wax and school glue (Pritt/Elmers). What I would do is separate your hair above the ear and everything in the bottom section will go to the spike/s backward. That will make the top less heavy. Use a strong hair wax for slicking and then glue for the actual structure and spiking. If your hair is longer than your arms you can do like a wave death hawk spike, think like sonic the hedgehog, or you can enlist the assistence of an accomplice and sit upside down on an office chair dangling your hair. :)
